Sediment Characteristics of Tidal Deposits at mandvi, Gulf of Kuchchh, Gujarat, India: Geophysical, Textural and mineralogical Attributes

The textural and mineralogical characteristics of subsurface sediments along with Ground penetrating Radar (GpR) data collected along the Western margin of India were used to understand the depositional environments and the provenance of sediments. Textural attributes such as mean, standard deviation, skewness and Kurtosis show fluctuations due to fluvio-marine interaction and it is well understood that the bottom sediments are enriched with muddy sand, which may be deposited by mean of tidal invasion. The abundance of very coarse silt to very fine sand indicates the prevalence of low energy environment. The Linear Discriminate Function analysis indicates the fluvio marine deposition of sediments under low energy condition. GpR data upto a depth of 5 m shows the stratigraphic sequences of very fine sands and coarse silt. Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) dating of sediments implies that the tidal sediments had deposited between ~30 ± 1 and ~90 ± 4 years before present. XRD studies results the dominance of K-feldspar and deficiency of clay minerals, indicating that most of the sediments are derived from hinterland. Studies indicate that the provenance of sediments in the mandvi area is not related to Indus delta even though a considerable part of Gulf sediments are deposited by the Indus River.

BACKGROUND Vedolizumab(VDZ),a humanised monoclonal antibody that selectively inhibits alpha4-beta7 integrins is approved for use in adult moderate to severe ulcerative colitis(UC)*** To assess the efficacy and safety of VDZ in the real-world management of UC in a large multicenter cohort involving two countries and to identify predictors of achieving *** A retrospective review of Australian and Oxford,United Kingdom data for UC *** response at 3 mo,endoscopic remission at 6 mo and clinical remission at 3,6 and 12 mo were *** regression models and Kaplan meier curves were performed to assess the time to remission,time to failure and the covariates influencing *** outcomes were *** Three hundred and three UC patients from 14 centres in Australia and United Kingdom,[60%n=182,anti-TNF naïve]were *** clinical response was 79%at 3 mo with more Australian patients achieving clinical response compared to Oxford(83%vs 70%p=0.01).Clinical remission for all patients was 56%,62%and 60%at 3,6 and 12 mo ***-TNF naive patients were more likely to achieve remission than exposed patients at all the time points(3 mo 66%vs 40%pmo 73%vs 46%pmo 66%vs 51%p=0.03).more Australian patients achieved endoscopic remission at 6 mo compared to Oxford(69%vs 43%p=0.01).On multi-variate analysis,anti-TNF naïve patients were 1.8(95%CI:1.3-2.3)times more likely to achieve remission than anti-TNF exposed(ppatients(11%)had colectomy by 12 *** VDZ was safe and effective with 60%of UC patients achieving clinical remission at 12 mo and prior anti-TNF exposure influenced this outcome.

AIm:To investigate the effect of meloxicam on the gut-liver axis after cirrhotic liver ***:Forty-four male Wistar rats were assigned to three groups:(1)control group(CG);(2)bile duct ligation with meloxicam treatment(BDL+m);and(3)bile duct ligation without meloxicam treatment(BDL).Secondary biliary liver cirrhosis was induced via ligatureof the bile duct in the BDL+m and BDL *** 2wk,the animals underwent a 50%*** the BDL+m group 15 min prior to the hepatectomy,one single dose of meloxicam was *** measured included:microcirculation of the liver and small bowel;portal venous flow(pVF);gastrointestinal(GI)transit;alanine aminotransferase(ALT);malondialdehyde;interleukin 6(IL-6),transforming growth factor beta 1(TGF-β1)and hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha(HIF-1α)levels;mRNA expression of cyclooxigenase-2(COX-2),IL-6 and TGF-β1;liver and small bowel histology;immunohistochemical evaluation of hepatocyte and enterocyte proliferation with Ki-67 and COX-2 liver ***:proliferative activity of hepatocytes after liver resection,liver flow and pVF were significantly higher in CG vs BDL+m and CG vs BDL group(pmeloxicam ameliorated liver flow and proliferative activity of hepatocytes in BDL+m vs BDL ***-2 liver expression at 24h observation time(OT),IL-6 concentration and mRNA IL-6 expression in the liver especially at 3 h OT,were significantly higher in BDL group when compared with the BDL+m and CG groups(ppppectively).Liver and small bowel histology,according to a semi quantitative scoring system,showed better integrity in BDL+m and CG as compared to BDL *** release and HIF-1αlevels at 1 h OT were significantly higher in BDL+m compared to CG and BDL group(pppectively).moreover,ALT release levels at 3 and 24 h OT were significantly higher in BDL group compared to CG,pproliferative activity and numb

Therapeutic potential of Staphylococcal Bacteriophages for Nasal Decolonization of <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i>in mice

Bacteriophages represent a rich and unique resource of anti-infectives to counter the global problem of antibiotic resis- tance. In this work, we assessed the bactericidal activity of two virulent staphylococcal phages, K and 44AHJD, against S. aureus isolates of clinical significance, and tested their efficacy in vivo. The phage cocktail lysed >85% of the clinical isolates tested. Both the phages were purified by ion-exchange column chromatography following propagation in bioreactors. The purity profiles of the ion-exchange purified phages were compared with those of phages purified using cesium chloride density gradient ultracentrifugation, and infectiousness of the purified phages was confirmed by plaque forming assay. The in vivo efficacy of a phage cocktail was evaluated in an experimental murine nasal colonization model, which showed that the phage cocktail was efficacious. To our knowledge, this is the first report of phage use in an in vivo model of nasal carriage.
