The mesoproterozoic(1.11 Ga)Umkondo large igneous province(LIP)in southern Africa and Antarctica was emplaced inmyr and is dominated by low-Ti tholeiitic doleritic-gabbroic *** is of particular interest because it is the least studied LIP in southern Africa with both sublithospheric and lithospheric mantle sources proposed and it coincides with the early assembly of Rodinia,so it has importance in understanding the nature of magmatism and tectonics in and around the Kalahari craton during the *** this study,we compiled a large database of existing(~750)and new(~100)major and trace element data for the Umkondo province,as well as 42 new Sr-Nd isotopic measurements,to provide constraints on its magma sources and geochemical *** element compositional variations in the low-Ti tholeiites are explained by low-pressure(1 kbar)three-phase fractional crystallisation(olivine,clinopyroxene and plagioclase)of a parent magma with~10 wt.%mgo in oxidising conditions(QFm+1).Inverse models show that the low-Ti tholeiitic magmas were derived as residual melts after the crystallization of 12%-33%olivine from primary komatiitic-basaltic magmas(up to~20 wt.%mgo)in equilibrium with mantle olivine(Fo90).Low Sm/Yb and Tio2/Yb-Nb/Yb indicate that the primary magmas were derived by 2%-20%shallow(40-50 km)partial melting of spinel *** Sm/Yb is restricted to dyke swarms and may imply limited magma production from deeper(up to~70 km)garnet lherzolite-like *** low-Ti tholeiites of the Umkondo province are enriched in large ion lithophile elements(Rb-Sr-Cs-K)and depleted in high-field strength elements(Zr-Hf-Nb-Ta),indicating the involvement of crustal material and/or the subcontinental lithospheric *** is supported by covariations in Th/Nb,Nb/Yb,Nb/La and Ce/Sm with generally negativeΔ***-Nd isotopes lend support to the notion that the Umkondo magmas were derived from depleted and/or enriched sublithospheric mantle sources and subs

BACKGRoUND Routine outpatient endoscopy is performed across a variety of outpatient settings.A known risk of performing endoscopy under moderate sedation is the potential for over-sedation,requiring the use of reversal *** needs to be reported on rates of reversal across different outpatient *** academic tertiary care center utilizes a triage tool that directs higher-risk patients to the in-hospital ambulatory procedure center(APC)for their ***,we report data on outpatient sedation reversal rates for endoscopy performed at an inhospital APC vs at a free-standing ambulatory endoscopy digestive health center(AEC-DHC)following risk stratification with a triage *** To observe the effect of risk stratification using a triage tool on patient outcomes,primarily sedation reversal *** We observed all outpatient endoscopy procedures performed at AEC-DHC and APC from April 2013 to September *** were stratified to their respective sites using a triage *** evaluated each procedure for which sedation reversal with flumazenil and naloxone was *** and characteristics recorded include patient age,gender,body mass index(BmI),American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA)classification,procedure type,and reason for sedation *** There were 97366 endoscopic procedures performed at AEC-DHC and 22494 at the APC during the study *** these,17 patients at AEC-DHC and 9 at the APC underwent sedation reversals(0.017%vs 0.04%;P=0.06).Demographics recorded for those requiring reversal at AEC-DHC vs APC included mean age(53.5±21 vs 60.4±17.42 years;P=0.23),ASA class(1.66±0.48 vs 2.22±0.83;P=0.20),BmI(27.7±6.7 kg/m^(2) vs 23.7±4.03 kg/m^(2);P=0.06),and female gender(64.7%vs 22%;P=0.04).The mean doses of sedative agents and reversal drugs used at AEC-DHC vs APC were midazolam(5.9±1.7 mg vs 8.9±3.5 mg;P=0.01),fentanyl(147.1±49.9μg vs 188.9±74.1μg;P=0.10),flumazenil(0.3±0.18μg vs 0.17±0.17μg;P=0.13)and naloxo

The quasi-monomineralic composition and huge spatial extent of massif-type anorthosites make detecting lithological regions and boundaries *** use processed Landsat 8 oLI multispectral images and ALoS digital elevation models integrated with field and petrographic observations to characterize the architecture of the≥17,000 km2 mesoproterozoic Kunene Complex(KC)anorthosite suite in Angola and *** of false colour composite bands 6,4 and 1 and band ratios 4/2(ferric minerals),6/5(ferrous minerals)and 6/7(oH-bearing minerals),as well as assessment of the PCA and mNF matrices of eigenvectors and eigenvalues from Landsat 8 data using available spectral libraries,have substantially improved the interpretation of the Kunene Complex rock types and *** dataset shows that the reflectance signature of KC anorthositic rocks is primarily a function of the degree of metasomatism,which is most significant in olivine-poor rock *** weathering intensity of the olivine-bearing anorthosite substrate is another control on the remote sensing *** remote sensing and field-based approach has enabled us to divide the KC anorthosite suite into six distinct spectral and architecture domains and at least four distinct magmatic plutons when considering available high-precision geochronological *** northernmost pluton(ca.1380 ma)of massive,olivine-bearing anorthosite shows distinct remote sensing signatures in the band ratio and mNF images marked by the dominance of oH-bearing and subordinate ferric *** central pluton(1412–1400 ma)is composed of NNE-to N-striking steeply dipping interlayered olivine-bearing and olivinepoor anorthosite,which correspond to ridges of dark-coloured,low albedo rocks with subordinate slightly oxidised ferrous mineral spectral signatures,and valleys of low albedo and oH-bearing mineral spectral signatures.A NNE-striking tectonic zone along a linear belt of KC granite gneiss separates the northern and central plu

Introduction: In the Pacific Northwest of North America, research addressing lentic-breeding amphibian populationvulnerability has emphasized aquatic habitats, frequently neglecting terrestrial habitats. Consequently, wetlandprotection and restoration often fails to preserve or restore adjacent uplands required by lentic-breeding *** to the juxtaposition and connectivity of uplands to wetlands could locally extirpate lentic-breedingamphibians. The objective of this research is to identify the relative importance of juxtaposed terrestrial and aquatichabitats in a lentic-breeding amphibian, the northern red-legged frog (Rana aurora), by evaluating the relationshipbetween its occurrence and abundance with its aquatic and terrestrial habitats. To accomplish this, egg mass countswere used to quantify R. aurora populations in 30 stillwater habitats across an urbanization gradient. Using aGeographic Information System, seven descriptors of aquatic and surrounding terrestrial habitats were measured toevaluate their relationships to R. aurora occurrence and ***: Rana aurora occurrence and breeding abundance both reflect the forested area around wetland breedingsites and forest connectivity to those sites. Rana aurora breeding abundance also strongly reflects the percent offorested perimeter around wetland breeding sites. The forest habitat most important for R. aurora breeding abundanceseems to be > 200 m from the breeding wetlands. The American bullfrog presence and the two aquatic parametersmeasured, wetland area and vegetated area, were unrelated to R. aurora occurrence and breeding ***: Area and connectivity of juxtaposed forested terrestrial habitat may represent a basic control on R. aurorapresence and population size. Urban development policies should consider preservation and restoration of uplandforest habitats beyond current fixed-width buffers and wetland habitat area at landscape scales.
