Background The impact of changing land-use patterns and associated anthropogenic threats on scale-dependent habitat use of semi-aquatic mustelids in scent-marking and social behaviour can provide important insights into the habitat ecology of smooth-coated otters(Lutrogale perspicillata).methods We sampled 180 stream segments(100–400 m) as spatial replicates of 60 1-km2 sites to record indirect evidence(i.e. spraints and mass latrine sites) and group sizes of smooth-coated otters along the Tungabhadra Otter Conservation Reserve(TOCR) during the dry season. To quantify habitat, we recorded stream characteristics, riparian vegetation, and anthropogenic disturbances at the local scale, and hydro-environmental characteristics and land uses at the landscape scale. Using markovian-chain detection and occupancy models, we assessed the multi-scale habitat use of otters in their selection of suitable areas for scent-marking based on repeated presence-absence data on spraint/latrine locations along the TOCR. We further used linear regression techniques to explore relationships between the number of individuals in smooth-coated otter group and hydro-environmental characteristics, spraint/latrine encounter rate, anthropogenic pressure, land cover, topography, and *** At the local scale, the probability of spraint deposition and group size decreased with anthropogenic disturbance while the probability of spraint detections decreased with grass cover. At the landscape scale, the probability of otter site use for spraint deposition and group sizes increased in southeast flowing streams. Yield Traits and Associated marker Segregation in Elite Introgression Lines Derived from O. sativa × O. nivara

melina wood torrefied at 260℃ for 60 min was agglomerated with lean grade coal fines into composite briquettes using pitch as *** biomass(3%-20%)and coal fines(80%-97%)were blended together to produce the composite briquettes under a hydraulic press(28 mpa).The briquettes were cured at 300℃.Density,water resistance,drop to fracture,impact resistance,and cold crushing strength were evaluated for the composite *** proximate,ultimate,and calorific value analyses were carried out according to different ASTm *** studies were carried out using scanning electron microscope and electron probe microanalyzer equipped with energy dispersive *** Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer(FTIR)was used to obtain the functional groups in the raw materials and *** density of the composite briquettes ranged from 0.92 to 1.31 g/cm^(3) after *** withmass has good water resistance index(>95%).The highest cold crushing strength of 4 mpa was obtained for briquettes produced from 97%coal fines and 3%torrefied *** highest drop to fracture(54 times/2 m)and impact resistance index(1350)were obtained for the sample produced from 97%coal and 3%torrefied *** fixed and elemental carbons of the briquettes showed a mild improvement compared to the raw *** peaks from FTIR spectra for the briquettes shows the presence of aromatic C=C bonds and phenolic OH *** composite briquettes with up to 20%torrefied biomass can all be useful as fuel for various applications.

Genotype phenotype correlation in Wilson's disease within families-a report on four south Indian families

AIm: To study the genotype phenotype correlation in Wilson's disease (WD) patients within families. mETHODS: We report four unrelated families from South India with nine members affected with WD. phenotype was classified as per international consensus phenotypic classifi cation of WD. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and 21 exons of ATp7B gene and flanking introns were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (pCR). The pCR products were screened for mutations and the aberrant products noted on screening were sequenced. RESULTS: Four separate ATp7B mutations were found in the four families. ATp7B mutations were identical amongst affected members within each family. Three families had homozygous mutations of ATp7B gene while one family had compound heterozygous mutation, of which only one mutation was identifi ed. We noted concordance between ATp7B gene mutation and Wilson's disease phenotype amongst members within each family. The age of onset of symptoms or of detection of asymptomatic disease, baseline serum ceruloplasmin and baseline urinary copper levels were also similar in affected members of each family. minor differences in phenotype and baseline serum ceruloplasmin level were noted in one ***: We report concordance between ATp7B mutation and WD phenotype within each family with > 1 member affected with WD. Homozygous ATp7B mutation was present in 3 of the 4 families studied. Our report supports allelic dominance as a determinant of WD phenotype. However, in one family with compound heterozygous mutation, there was a similar WD phenotype which suggests that there may be other factors determining the phenotype.

Immuolocalization of nestin in pancreatic tissue of mice at different ages

AIm:To localize nestin positive cells (NpC) in pancreatic tissue of mice of different ages. mETHODS: paraffin sections of 6-8 μm of fixed pancreatic samples were mounted on poly-L-lysine coated slides and used for Immunolocalization using appropriate primary antibodies (Nestin, Insulin, Glucagon), followed by addition of a fluorescently labeled secondary antibody. The antigen-antibody localization was captured using a confocal microscope (Leica Sp 5 series). RESULTS: In 3-6 d pups, the NpC were localized towards the periphery of the endocrine portion, as evident from immunolocalization of insulin and glucagon, while NpC were absent in the acinar portion. At 2 wk, NpC were localized in both the exocrine and endocrine portions. Interestingly, in 4-wk-old mice NpC were seen only in the endocrine portion, towards the periphery, and were colocalised with the glucagon positive cells. In the pancreas of 8-wk-old mice, the NpC were predominantly localized in the central region of the islet clusters, where immunostaining for insulin was at a maximum. CONCLUSION: We report for the first time theimmunolocalization of NpC in the pancreas of mice of different ages (3d to 8wk) with reference to insulin and glucagon positive cells. The heterogeneous localization of the NpC observed may be of functional and developmental significance and suggest(s) that mice pancreatic tissue can be a potential source of progenitor cells. NpC from the pancreas can be isolated, proliferated and programmed to differentiate into insulin secreting cells under the appropriate microenvironment.

本文通过在脂质体内还原金的前体HAuCl_4原位合成了金纳米星.这种设计跟常用的在脂质体内装载金纳米球的方法相比,优点是方便快捷的同时实现了金纳米材料的形成和装载.通过改变实验条件,合成的金纳米星具有可控的尺寸,以及在可见区到近红外区之间的可控吸收光谱.作为一个例子,我们在脂质体内合成了最大吸收在803 nm的金纳米星.这种材料具有温度敏感性,在近红外区可以产生比血液好1.5倍的光声造影信号.当我们把抗癌药物阿霉素装载到这种脂质体内时,近红外区的激光照射可以在10秒内触发药物100%的释放.相对应的,不含纳米星的脂质体在同等条件下只能释放10%的药物,也不具备光声造影的信号增强.最后,我们在癌细胞内测试了该脂质体的疗效,初步验证了该体系的应用前景.
