Objective: This study aimed to clarify the effect of trace elements on enamel erosion due to citric acid eliminating other factors that can affect enamel erosion. method: Forty enamel specimens were obtained by embedding bovine enamel blocks into a quick cure resin. Half of the enamel surface of the specimens was covered with nail varnish. The specimens were randomly divided into control (Ct), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu) groups and immersed in 1% citric acid solution, 1% citric acid solution with 10 mmol/L zinc, 1% citric acid solution with 10 mmol/L iron, or 1% citric acid solution with 10 mmol/L copper, respectively, at 37°C for 5 h. After immersion, the demineralized lesion depth was measured using transverse microradiography (TmR) and compared between groups using one-way analysis of variance and Tukey’s test. Results: The lesion depth was significantly higher in the Zn (218.9 ± 88.5 μm) group than that in the Ct group (116.3 ± 22.1 μm) (p Conclusion: It was suggested that zinc has decalcification properties when consumed with citric acid, while iron and copper don’t have such properties.

We have imaged rock density distribution beneath Liwa fracture zone in the southern part of the the Sumatran Fault Zone by modelling and inverting Bouguer gravity data in two-and three-dimensional environments, respectively. The purpose of this study is aimed to figure out the subsurface distribution of rock densities associated with subsurface basement structure representing the evidence of trans-tensional tectonic product in the SF. In the gravity modeling, to eliminate distortions to the measured gravity values before modelling and inverting the data, Bouguer anomalies obtained in field measurements are reduced to the horizontal plane of z = +800 m as a representation of the average elevation in Liwa. For the inversion, we used algorithm implementing depth-and minimum volume weighting parameters in order to obtain a smooth model with better vertical resolution. The two-dimensional models show clearly surface topography of the basement rocks and the presence of normal faults. The reduced Bouguer anomaly of +800 m elevation shows the presence of structural lineaments extending primarily in a northwest-southeast direction, parallel to Sumatran Fault Zone and older graben faults showing a negative flower structure. From the three-dimensional inversion, the model illustrates an increase of density contrast, lower values being found near the surface and higher values in the deeper parts. The lower density contrast of 0.15 to 0.3 g/cm3 found in the rock groups at depths of 2 km and less is characteristic of relatively homogeneous and poorly compacted rocks. Rocks with moderate to high density contrast (>1.0 g/cm3) are recognized at depths of over 2 km. This model suggests a change of basement morphology as a function of depth, and delineates structural lineaments extending in northwest-southeast direction. Feasibility Study for Biweekly Administration of Cisplatin plus Vinorelbine as Adjuvant-Chemotherapy for Completely Resected Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients in a Japanese Population

Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility of biweekly administration of cisplatin and vinorelbine as adjuvant chemotherapy for patients with completely resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients and methods: This was a single-arm, single-institutional study. Patients with completely resected NSCLC (p-Stage IB-IIIA) with no previous chemotherapy or radiotherapy were eligible. Simon’s optimal two-stage design was applied. Both cisplatin (50 mg/m2) and vinorelbine (25 mg/m2) were given on days 1 and 15, every 28 days. The primary endpoint of this study was the feasibility of this combination in the four cycles of treatment. Results: Twenty patients (19 lobectomies and 1 pneumonectomy) were enrolled in this study. 10 (50%) of patients had grade 3/4 neutropenia, and 3 (15%) had grade 3/4 anemia. Severe non-hematologic toxicities were uncommon in this series. No treatment-related death was encountered. 18 (90%) patients completed the planned 4 cycles of chemotherapy. The median intensity was 24.3 (range 18.1 to 25) mg/m2/week with an average of 23.6 (21 - 25) mg/m2/week cisplatin and 12.5 (range 10 to 12.5) mg/m2/week with an average of 12.3 (10 - 12.5) mg/m2/week vinorelbine. The median relative dose intensity of cisplatin was 97.5% (range 72.5% to 100%) with an average of 94.6% (72.5% - 100%) and that of vinorelbine was 100% (range 80% to 100%) with an average of 97.8% (80% - 100%). Conclusion: This regimen is feasible in the treatment of patients with completely resected NSCLC. A phase III trial is warranted to assess the efficacy of this regimen at promoting survival and preventing recurrence.

Changes in Plant Species during Succession in a Sago Forest

The variation in solar environments during succession in sago forests is thought to affect the growth of many plant species. To clarify the pattern of plant colonization in sago forests at various successional stages, we constructed eleven 10 m × 10 m quadrats in different solar conditions in sago forests, measured and calculated the relative illumination intensity, collected all plant species in these quadrats, and used two chloroplast gene sequences—the rbcL gene of ferns and the trnL intron of angiosperms to molecularly identify them. The number of ferns increased while the number of herbaceous species decreased during the process of succession. moreover, the number of woody species was not significantly correlated with the relative light intensity. Based on these results, it can be concluded that woody species colonized and grew at various successional stages but herbaceous species and ferns did the same in the early and late successional stages, respec-tively, in the sago forest.

在确定概率预测性能所用的评分方法中,对数似然法是最常用和最有效的。虽然对数似然得分评估了预报的综合效率,但我们需要进一步评估地震活动如总数量、发生时间、地点和震级等各因素的分项预测效率。为此,基于观测的地震事件,我们使用了条件或边际似然函数。这种分项评分揭示了预报模型的优缺点并说明了必要的改进。将这些得分应用于日本东北太平洋海岸近海mW9.0地震袭击的2011年3月灾难期间的概率预报。然而,该评估说明任何一个前瞻性预报模型都不能完全令人满意。因此,我们进行了另外两种回顾性预报试验来调查原因,包括m9巨大地震后地震活动率模式发生改变的可能性。此外,实验显示了地震可预测性研究合作实验室(CSEP)采用的单日预报规程的技术难点。进一步实验的结果引导我们对可发展为实时预报的地震可预测性研究合作实验室方案及其评估提出具体的修改建议。

In an attempt to clarify issues related to the molecular weight dependence of the phase transition of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAm) in water,we prepared a library of PNIPAm samples of well-controlled molecular weight (7000 to 45000 g/mol) bearing identical groups on each chain *** polymers were synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAm) with a bifunctional chain tranfer agent and further end group *** effects of the end group chemical structure,hydroxyethyl (HE),propargyl (Pr),chloroethyl (CE),n-butyl (nBu),n-hexyl (nHe),and isobutylsulfanylthiosulfanyl (IBS) on the phase transition temperature of aqueous PNIPAm solutions were investigated by high-sensitivity differential scanning calorimetry (HS-DSC),yielding the enthalpy ΔH and the endotherm maximum temperature (T m),and turbidimetry,providing the cloud point (T CP) of each *** T CP and T m of the PNIPAm sample of lowest molar mass (m n 7,000 g/mol,0.5 g/L) ranged,respectively,from 38.8 to 22.5 °C and 42.2 to 26.0 °C,depending on the structure of the end-group,whereas H showed no strong end-group *** phase transition of all polymers,except,-di(n-butyl-PNIPAm),exhibited a marked dependence on the polymer molar mass.

Selective C3-alkenylation of oxindole with aldehydes using heterogeneous CeO2 catalyst

We report herein that a commercially available CeO2 is an active and reusable catalyst for the C3-selective alkenylation of oxindole with aldehydes under solvent-free conditions. This catalytic method is generally applicable to different aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes, giving 3-alkyledene-oxindoles in high yields(87%–99%) and high stereoselectivities(79%–93% to E-isomers). This is the first example of the catalytic synthesis of 3-alkenyl-oxindoles from oxindole and various aliphatic aldehydes. The Lewis acid-base interaction between Lewis acid sites on CeO2 and benzaldehyde was studied by in situ IR. The structure-activity relationship study using CeO2 catalysts with different sizes suggests that defect-free CeO2 surface is the active site for this reaction.
