The mission of korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (kSTAR)project is to develop an advanced steady-state superconducting tokamak for establishing a scientificand technological basis for an attractive fusion reactor. Because one of the kSTAR mission is toachieve a steady-state operation, the use of superconducting coils is an obvious choice for themagnet system. The kSTAR superconducting magnet system consists of 16 Toroidal Field (TF) coils and14 Poloidal Field (PF) coils. Internally-cooled Cable-In-Conduit Conductors (CICC) are put into usein both the TF and PF coil systems. The TF coil system provides a field of 3.5 T at the plasmacenter and the PF coil system is able to provide a flux swing of 17 V-sec. The major achievement inkSTAR magnet-system development includes the development of CICC, the development of a full-size TFmodel coil, the development of a coil system for background magnetic-field generation , theconstruction of a large-scale superconducting magnet and CICC test facility. TF and PF coils are inthe stage of fabrication to pave the way for the scheduled completion of kSTAR by the end of 2006.

＜正＞We evaluated nuclear localization of cultured cancer cells with 111 In-labeled triplex-forming olgonucleotides （TFO） targeting human N-myc gene. Auger emitter labeled TFO could be an ideal vehicle for delivering radiation energy to specific DNA sequences. Polypurine-polypyrimidine sequence in N-myc gene promoter was selected for TFO in assessing resistance of chemotherapy. The TFO sequence was conjugated with diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid （DTPA）, followed by radiolabeling with lllIn. Triplex formation between plasmid pCR3N-myc and 111 In-labeled TFO was performed to confirm the quality of radiolabeled TFO. High mobility group box 1 in the central nervous system:regeneration hidden beneath inflammation

High-mobility group box 1 was first discovered in the calf thymus as a DNA-binding nuclear protein and has been widely studied in diverse fields,including neurology and ***-mobility group box 1 in the extracellular space functions as a pro-inflammatory damage-associated molecular pattern,which has been proven to play an important role in a wide variety of central nervous system disorders such as ischemic stroke,Alzheimer’s disease,frontotemporal dementia,Parkinson’s disease,multiple sclerosis,epilepsy,and traumatic brain *** drugs that inhibit high-mobility group box 1 as a damage-associated molecular pattern,such as glycyrrhizin,ethyl pyruvate,and neutralizing anti-high-mobility group box 1 antibodies,are commonly used to target high-mobility group box 1 activity in central nervous system *** it is commonly known for its detrimental inflammatory effect,high-mobility group box 1 has also been shown to have beneficial pro-regenerative roles in central nervous system *** this narrative review,we provide a brief summary of the history of high-mobility group box 1 research and its characterization as a damage-associated molecular pattern,its downstream receptors,and intracellular signaling pathways,how high-mobility group box 1 exerts the repair-favoring roles in general and in the central nervous system,and clues on how to differentiate the pro-regenerative from the pro-inflammatory *** targeting high-mobility group box 1 in the central nervous system may benefit from differentiating between the two functions rather than overall suppression of high-mobility group box 1.

Prominent cycling reversibility and kinetics enabled by CaTiO3 protective layer on Zn metal for aqueous Zn-ion batteries

Aqueous Zn-ion batteries （AZIBs） have received considerable attention owing to their various advantages such as safety,low cost,simple battery assembly conditions,and high ionic ***,they still suffer from serious problems,including uncontrollable dendrite growth,corrosion,hydrogen evolution reaction （HER） from water decomposition,electrode passivation,and unexpected *** creation of a uniform artificial nanocrystal layer on the Zn anode surface is a promising strategy for resolving these ***,we propose the use of a perovskite CaTiO3（CTO） protective layer on Zn（CTO@Zn） as a promising approach for improving the performance of *** CTO artificial layer provides an efficient pathway for Zn ion diffusion towards the Zn metal because of the high dielectric constant （εr=180） and ferroelectric characteristics that enable the alignment of dipole moments and redistribute the Zn2+ions in the CTO *** avoiding the direct contact of the Zn anode with the electrolyte solution,the uneven dendrite growth,corrosion,parasitic side reactions,and HER are mitigated,while CTO retains its mechanical and chemical robustness during ***,CTO@Zn demonstrates an improved lifespan in a symmetric cell configuration compared with bare ***@Zn shows steady overpotential （～68 m V） for 1500 h at 1 mA cm-2/0.5 mA h cm-2,excelling bare ***,when paired with the V2O5-C cathode,the CTO@Zn//V2O5-C full battery delivers 148.4 mA h g-1（based on the mass of the cathode） after 300 *** study provides new insights into Zn metal anodes and the development of high-performance AZIBs.

Scalable Ir-Doped NiFe₂O₄/TiO₂ Heterojunction Anode for Decentralized Saline Wastewater Treatment and H₂ Production

Wastewater electrolysis cells (WECs) for decentralized wastewater treatment/reuse coupled with H-2 production can reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation of water, waste, and energy carrier. This study reports Ir-doped NiFe2O4 (NFI, similar to 5 at% Ir) spinel layer with TiO2 overlayer (NFI/TiO2), as a scalable heterojunction anode for direct electrolysis of wastewater with circumneutral pH in a single-compartment cell. In dilute (0.1 m) NaCl solutions, the NFI/TiO2 marks superior activity and selectivity for chlorine evolution reaction, outperforming the benchmark IrO2. Robust operation in near-neutral pH was confirmed. Electroanalyses including operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy unveiled crucial roles of TiO2 which serves both as the primary site for Cl- chemisorption and a protective layer for NFI as an ohmic contact. Galvanostatic electrolysis of NH4+-laden synthetic wastewater demonstrated that NFI/TiO2 not only achieves quasi-stoichiometric NH4+-to-N-2 conversion, but also enhances H-2 generation efficiency with minimal competing reactions such as reduction of dissolved oxygen and reactive chlorine. The scaled-up WEC with NFI/TiO2 was demonstrated for electrolysis of toilet wastewater.

A Parametric Study for High-Efficiency Gas-Liquid Separator Design

A gas liquid centrifugal separator is widely used in industry on account of its simple geometry and little maintenance. These separators have considerable advantages over filters, scrubbers or precipitators in term of compact design, lower pressure drop and higher capacity. A gas liquid centrifugal separator is a device that utilizes centrifugal forces and low pressure caused by rotational motion to separate liquid from gas by density differences. Efficient and reliable separation is required for the optimum operation. These separators are often operated at less than peak efficiency due to the entrainment of separated liquid through an outlet pipe which is closely associated with the very complicated flow phenomena involved. Design parameters such as length of the separation space, vane exit angle, inlet to outlet diameter ratio, models for separation efficiency and pressure drop as a function of physical dimensions are not available in literature. This leaves the designer with very little to go on except known designs and experimentation. The aim of present study is to perform a parametric study to get higher efficiency for gas-liquid separator. A parametric study has been carded out with the help of CFD tools to analyze a separation performance of a centrifugal separator by varying the length of separator space. The best design parameters are analyzed based upon obtained results, tangential velocities, vortices, total pressure losses. From the present study several attempts are made to improve the performance of conventional centrifugal separators.

INVERTING GENERATING FUNCTIONS WITH INCREASED NUmERICAL PRECISION-A COmPUTATIONAL EXPERIENCE

In this paper, we consider the numerical inversion of a variety of generating functions （GFs） that arise in the area of engineering and non-engineering fields. Three classes of GFs are taken into account in a comprehensive manner： classes of probability generating functions （PGFs） that are given in rational and non-rational forms, and a class of GFs that are not PGFs. Among others, those PGFs that are not explicitly given but contain a number of unknowns are largely considered as they are often encountered in many interesting applied problems. For the numerical inversion of GFs, we use the methods of the discrete （fast） Fourier transform and the Taylor series expansion. Through these methods, we show that it is remarkably easy to obtain the desired sequence to any given accuracy, so long as enough numerical precision is used in computations. Since high precision is readily available in current software packages and programming languages, one can now lift, with little effort, the so-called Laplacian curtain that veils the sequence of interest. To demonstrate, we take a series of representative examples： the PGF of the number of customers in the discrete-time Geo^X/Geo/c queue, the same in the continuous-time m^X/D/c queue, and the GFs arising in the discrete-time renewal process.

Photoluminescence enhancement of red-emitting GdVO_4:Eu and YVO_4:Eu phosphors by adding zinc

We synthesized the rare-earth activated Ro.94_xEuo.06ZnxVO4 （R： Gd and Y; 0〈_x〈_0.08） phosphors with a spherical mor- phology and a smooth surface by the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis. The annealed Ro.94_xEuo.06ZnxVO4 crystallized in the tetragonal zircon type structure, belonging to the space group of I41/amd. The incorporation of a small amount of Zn to Ro.94Euo.06VO4 improved the emission characteristics. The emission intensities of the Gdo.88EUo.06Zno.06VO4 and Yo.9Euo.06Zno.04VO4 phosphors at 619 nm were 72% and 2 1% stronger than those of the Gdo,94Euo.06VO4 and Yo.94Euo.06VO4 phosphors, respectively. We demonstrated that the addi- tion of Zn to Ro.94Euo.06VO4 was quite effective for improving the photoluminescent properties.
