maloperation of conventional relays is becoming prevalent due to ever increase in complexity of conventional power *** are dominant during power system contingencies like power swing,load encroachment,voltage instability,unbalanced loading,*** these situations,adaptive supervised wide-area backup protection(ASWABP)plays a major role in enhancing the power system reliability.A balance between security and dependability of protection is essential to maintain the *** paper proposes multi-phasor measurement units(mPmU)based ASWABP scheme that can function effectively during faults besides power system *** is an extended version of Phasor measurement Unit(PmU).It is an intelligent electronic device which estimates the synchronized predominant harmonic phasors(100Hz and 150Hz)along with the fundamental phasors(50Hz)of three phase voltages and currents with high *** proposed ASWABP scheme can detect the fault,identify the parent bus,determine the faulty branch and classify the faults using mPmU measurements at System Protection Center(SPC).Based on these mPmU measurements(received at phasor data concentrator(PDC)at SPC)the appropriate relays will be supervised to enhance the overall reliability of the power *** case studies are conducted on WSCC-9 bus and IEEE-14 bus systems to illustrate the security and dependability attributes of proposed ASWABP scheme in mATLAB/Simulink ***,comparative studies are performed with the existing conventional distance protection(mho relays)for corroborating the superiority of the proposed scheme regarding security and *** studies have shown that the proposed scheme can be used as adaptive supervised wide-area backup protection of conventional distance protection.

Degradation of methylene Blue and Rhodamine B Using a New Visible Light-Responsive Photocatalyst, KSb_2PO_(8-x)N_y

Potassium phosphatoantimonates, KSb2PO8 （KSbPO） and KSb2PO8-xNy （KSbPON）, are prepared by solidstate method. Urea is employed as a source of nitrogen for N-doping. Structural, morphological and optical properties of both KSbPO and KSbPON are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction （PXRD）, scanning electron microscopy, energydispersive spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Both samples are found to crystallize in a monoclinic lattice with Cc space group. The d-lines of KSbPO and KSbPON are refined by least square fitting the PXRD data, using POWD software to obtain their unit cell parameters. The bandgap energy （Eg） of both pristine and N-doped KSbPO is found from their Kubelka-munk plot. The KSbPON/visible photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and rhodamine B has been investigated in aqueous heterogeneous suspension. The generation of .OH in the presence of KSbPON during the photoreaction is verified by a fluorescence technique using terephthalic acid （TA） as a probe.

Rare earth ortho-oxomolybdates of composition Ln2/amoO4 （Ln=La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Er and Y） were prepared by metathesis reaction. All these materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR） and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra. The Rietveld analysis of all the samples was carried out to obtain the unit cell parameters and reliability factors. All the materials were crystallized in tetragonal lattice with I41/a space group. The infrared spectra of all the samples were characterized by bands due to moO42 units. The bandgap energies of all the samples were obtained from UV-Vis DRS spectra. The luminescence spectra of Ln2/3moO4 （Ln=Pr, Eu and Dy） showed characteristic transitions of the rare earth ions. The visible light photocatalytic activity of all the samples was studied against degradation of methylene blue.

Performance of sand and shredded rubber tire mixture as a natural base isolator for earthquake protection

The performance of a well-designed layer of sand, and composites like layer of sand mixed with shredded rubber tire (RSm) as low cost base isolators, is studied in shake table tests in the laboratory. The building foundation is modeled by a 200 mm by 200 mm and 40 mm thick rigid plexi-glass block. The block is placed in the middle of a 1m by 1m tank filled with sand. The selected base isolator is placed between the block and the sand foundation. Accelerometers are placed on top of the footing and foundation sand layer. The displacement of the footing is also measured by LVDT. The whole setup is mounted on a shake table and subjected to sinusoidal motions with varying amplitude and frequency. Sand is found to be effective only at very high amplitude (> 0.65 g) of motions. The performance of a composite consisting of sand and 50% shredded rubber tire placed under the footing is found to be most promising as a low-cost effective base isolator.

Enhanced saturation magnetization in La^(3+) doped NiCo ferrites prepared by sol-gel auto-combustion method

Lanthanum doped nickel-cobalt nano ferrites with chemical formula Ni_(0.5)Co_(0.5)LaxFe_(2-x)O_(4)(x=0.05,0,10,0.15 and 0,20) were prepared using a simple sol-gel auto combustion *** basic structural properties were determined by X-ray diffraction method and the formation of single phased spinel ferrite was *** crystalline size decreased from 25 to 11 nm and lattice parameter a increases with increase of La *** surface morphology of these ferrites was observed by field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEm) and agglomerated irregular grains are observed with increase of the rare earth element La ***-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX) result confirms the presence of the required *** Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) spectrum indicates the formation of the spinel ferrite structure with m-O *** direct band measurements from ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy(UV-Vis) spectroscopy indicate that the direct band gap decreases from 1.39 to 1.19 eV for x=0.05 to x=0.15,then increases to 1.28 eV for x=*** room temperature magnetic properties of these ferrites were studied by a vibrating sample magnetometer(VSm).The enhanced saturation magnetization of 49.73 emu/g is observed for x=0.10 and then saturation magnetizations are gradually decreased for x=0.15 and x=*** the remanent magnetization and coercivity also follow the same trend.

Enhanced performance of nano-sized SiC reinforced Al metal matrix nanocomposites synthesized through microwave sintering and hot extrusion techniques

In the present study, nano-sized SiC(0, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 vol%) reinforced aluminum(Al) metal matrix composites were fabricated by microwave sintering and hot extrusion techniques. The structural(XRD, SEm),mechanical(nanoindentation, compression, tensile) and thermal properties(co-efficient of thermal expansionCTE) of the developed Al-SiC nanocomposites were studied. The SEm/EDS mapping images show a homogeneous distribution of SiC nanoparticles into the Al matrix. A significant increase in the strength(compressive and tensile) of the Al-SiC nanocomposites with the addition of SiC content is observed. However,it is noticed that the ductility of Al-SiC nanocomposites decreases with increasing volume fraction of SiC. The thermal analysis indicates that CTE of Al-SiC nanocomposites decreases with the progressive addition of hard SiC nanoparticles. Overall, hot extruded Al 1.5 vol% SiC nanocomposites exhibited the best mechanical and thermal performance as compared to the other developed Al-SiC nanocomposites.

Bemisia tabaci adults from various host-plant species were collected from 31 regions across India.266 *** samples were first screened by RAPD-PCR to examine molecular variability and to select individuals with different ***-plant and region of collection were then used to select 25 individuals for PCR amplification and sequencing of their partial mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit one（mtCOI）*** comparisons with mtCOI consensus sequences showed that the majority of these samples had 〈3.5% sequence divergence from groups currently termed Asia I,Asia II-5,Asia II-7,and Asia *** biotype-B *** from India clustered into the middle East-Asia minor 1 group.A new group of *** from Coimbatore,collected from pumpkin,was related most closely to the Asia I group（6.2% sequence divergence from the consensus Asia I sequence）.To increase our understanding of the epidemiology of tomato leaf curl disease（ToLCD）and the key *** genetic groups involved in virus spread,the indigenous Asia I and the exotic biotype-B population from South India were used to carry out transmission experiments using Tomato leaf curl Bangalore virus（ToLCBV）.The acquisition access periods（AAP）,inoculation access periods（IAP）,latent periods（LP）,and ToLCBV transmission efficiencies of the two populations were compared and the biotype-B had the more efficient transmission *** results are discussed in relation to recent changes in the epidemiology of tomato leaf curl disease in South India.

Large-scale destress blasting for seismicity control in hard rock mines:A case study

Destress blasting is a rockburst control technique where highly stressed rock is blasted to reduce the local stress and stiffness of the rock,thereby reducing its burst *** technique is commonly practiced in deep hard rock mines in burst prone developments,as well as in sill or crown pillars which become burst-prone as the orebody is ***-scale destressing is a variant of destress blasting where panels are created parallel to the orebody strike with a longhole,fanning blast pattern from cross cut drifts situated in the host *** aim of panel destressing is to reduce the stress concentration in the ore blocks or pillars to be *** paper focuses on the large-scale destress blasting program conducted at Vale's Copper Cliff mine(CCm)in Ontario,*** merits of panel destressing are examined through field measurements of mining induced stress changes in the *** destressing mechanism is simulated with a rock fragmentation factor(a)and stress reduction/dissipation factor(b).A 3D model is built and validated with measured induced stress *** is shown that the best correlation between the numerical model and field measurements is obtained when the combination of a and b indicates that the blast causes high fragmentation(a=0.05)and high stress release(b=0.95)in the destress *** is demonstrated that the burst proneness of the ore blocks in the panel stress shadow is reduced in terms of the brittle shear ratio(BSR)and the burst potential index(BPI).

The augmentation in electricity demand,power system privatization as well as efficacy of renewable resources has paved the way for power system companies and researchers to exploit the field of grid connected distributed generation(DG)and its issues,islanding being a dominant *** research works have been conducted to mitigate the issues of islanding detection(ID).In context of this,the paper gives a comprehensive review of islanding issues,standard test systems,criteria and shifting of research trends in islanding detection methods(IDms).The significant contributions pertain to categorization of IDms,evaluation of non-detection zone(NDZ)for each test system,disquisition on evolution and advancement of IDms and its comparisons based on criteria such as NDZ,run on time,nuisance tripping percentage,applicability in multi DG system and implementation cost to draw out the strength and shortcomings of individual methods that will come to aid to the companies or researchers for establishing the applicability and appropriateness of such method for their concerned domain.

Trends with neoadjuvant radiotherapy and clinical staging for those with rectal malignancies

AIm To see how patterns of care changed over time,and how institution type effected these *** A retrospective analysis was performed using the National Cancer Database,looking at all patients that were diagnosed with rectal cancer from 1998 to 2011. We tested differences in rates of treatment and stage migration using χ~2 tests and logistic regression models. RESULTS A review of ninety thousand five hundred and ninety four subjects underwent multimodality therapy for cancer of the rectum. Staging and response to treatment varied greatly between centers. Forty-six percent of the time staging was missing in academic practices,vs fiftyfour percent of the time in community centers(P mia,whereas only fifteen percent were down-staged and 8% up-staged in community practices(P ment varied greatly. Fifty-one percent received therapy before surgery in academic centers in 1998. Thirty-nine percent followed this pattern in the same year in the community(P mic centers,vs eighty-four percent in the community(P mia,although an increase was seen in both center types. CONCLUSION From the study dates of 1998 to 2011,preoperative treatment with radiation has been on the rise. There is certainly an increased rate of use of radiation in academia,however,this trend is also seen in the community. Practice patterns have evolved over time,although rates of assigning clinical stage are grossly underreported prior to initiation of preoperative therapy.
