Loss of LAT1 sex-dependently delays recovery after caerulein-induced acute pancreatitis

BACKGROUND The expression of amino acid transporters is known to vary during acute pancreatitis(AP)except for LAT1(slc7a5),the expression of which remains ***1 supports cell growth by importing leucine and thereby stimulates mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)activity,a phenomenon often observed in cancer *** mechanisms by which LAT1 influences physiological and pathophysiological processes and affects disease progression in the pancreas are not yet *** To evaluate the role of LAT1 in the development of and recovery from *** AP was induced with caerulein(cae)injections in female and male mice expressing LAT1 or after its knockout(LAT1 Cre/LoxP).The development of the initial AP injury and its recovery were followed for seven days after cae injections by daily measuring body weight,assessing microscopical tissue architecture,mRNA and protein expression,protein synthesis,and enzyme activity levels,as well as by testing the recruitment of immune cells by FACS and *** The initial injury,evaluated by measurements of plasma amylase,lipase,and trypsin activity,as well as the gene expression of dedifferentiation markers,did not differ between the ***,early metabolic adaptations that support regeneration at later stages were blunted in LAT1 knockout *** in females,we observed less mTOR reactivation and dysfunctional *** later regeneration phase was clearly delayed in female LAT1 knockout mice,which did not regain normal expression of the pancreas-specific differentiation markers recombining binding protein suppressor of hairless-like protein(rbpjl)and basic helixloop-helix family member A15(mist1).Amylase mRNA and protein levels remained lower,and,strikingly,female LAT1 knockout mice presented signs of fibrosis lasting until day *** contrast,pancreas morphology had returned to normal in wild-type *** LAT1 supports the regeneration of acinar cells after *** mice lacking LAT1 exh

Optical Photometric Observations of 7-Ray Loud Blazars

We report results of our optical photometric observations of ten gamma-ray loud blazers, namely: 0219+428 (3C66A), PKS 0420-014 (OA 129), S5 0716+714, 0754+100 (OI 090.4), 0827+243 (OJ248), 1652+398 (mrk 501), 2200+420 (BL Lacertae), 2230+114 (CTA 102), 2251+158 (3C 454.3) and 2344+514. The observations were carried out in September-October, 2000 using the 70 cm optical telescope at Abstumani Observatory, Georgia. We found intra-day variations in 0420-014, S5 0716+714, BL Lacertae and CTA 102. A variation of 0.3 magnitude over a time scale of about 3 hours was observed in the R passband in BL Lacertae on JD 2451827. We did not detect any variation in 3C 66A, mrk 501, or 3C 454.3 during our observations. Nor did we detect any clear evidence of variation in 1ES 2344+514 during our two weeks' observing run of the TeV gamma-ray source.

Response of Photonic Hydrogels of Homogeneous Particles to Uranyl Ions in Aqueous Solutions

We study here the response of photonic hydrogels(PHs),made of photonic crystals of homogeneous silica particles in polyacrylamide hydrogels(SPHs),to the uranyl ions 22 UO_(2)^(2+) in aqueous *** is found that the reflection spectra of the SPH show a peak due to the Bragg diffraction,which exhibits a blue shift in the presence of 22 UO_(2)^(2+).Upon exposure to the SPH,22 UO_(2)^(2+)gets adsorbed on the SPH and forms complex coordinate bonds with multiple ligands on the SPH,which causes shrinking of hydrogel and leads to the blue shift in the diffraction *** amount of the blue shift in the diffraction peak increases monotonically up to 22 UO_(2)^(2+)concentrations as high as 2300μ*** equilibration time for the shift in the Bragg peak upon exposure to 22 UO_(2)^(2+)is found to be~30 *** results are in contrast to the earlier reports on photonic hydrogels of inhomogeneous microgel particles hydrogel(mPH),which shows the threshold 22 UO_(2)^(2+)concentration of~600μm,below which the diffraction peak exhibits a blue shift and a change to a red shift above *** equilibration time for mPH is~300 *** observed monotonic blue shift and the faster time response of the SPH to 22 UO_(2)^(2+)as compared to the mPH are explained in terms of homogeneous nature of silica particles in the SPH,against the porous and polymeric nature of microgels in the *** also study the extraction of 22 UO_(2)^(2+)from aqueous solutions using the *** extraction capacity estimated by the arsenazo-III analysis is found to be 112 mm/kg.

Two-component modeling for non-Newtonian nanofluid slip flow and heat transfer over sheet: Lie group approach

The present paper deals with the multiple solutions and their stability analy- sis of non-Newtonian micropolar nanofluid slip flow past a shrinking sheet in the presence of a passively controlled nanoparticle boundary condition. The Lie group transformation is used to find the similarity transformations which transform the governing transport equations to a system of coupled ordinary differential equations with boundary condi- tions. These coupled set of ordinary differential equation is then solved using the Runge- Kutta-Fehlberg fourth-fifth order （RKF45） method and the ode15s solver in mATLAB. For stability analysis, the eigenvalue problem is solved to check the physically realizable solution. The upper branch is found to be stable, whereas the lower branch is unsta- ble. The critical values （turning points） for suction （0 〈 sc 〈 s） and the shrinking parameter （Xc 〈 X 〈 0） are also shown graphically for both no-slip and multiple-slip conditions. multiple regression analysis for the stable solution is carried out to inves- tigate the impact of various pertinent parameters on heat transfer rates, The Nusselt number is found to be a decreasing function of the thermophoresis and Brownian motion parameters.

Deforestation effects on biological and other important soil properties in an upland watershed of Bangladesh

Deforestation occurs at an alarming rate in upland watersheds of Bangladesh and has many detrimental effects on the environment. This study reports the effects of deforestation on soil biological proper- ties along with some important physicochemical parameters of a southern upland watershed ***. Soils were sampled at 4 paired sites, each pair representing a deforested site and a forested site, and having similar topographical characteristics. Significantly fewer （p〈0.001） fungi and bacteria, and lower microbial respiration, active microbial biomass, metabolic and microbial quotients were found in soils of the deforested sites. Soil physical properties such as moisture content, water holding capacity, and chemical properties such as organic matter, total N, avail- able P and EC were also lower in deforested soils. Bulk density and pH were significantly higher in deforested soils. Available Ca and mg were inconsistent between the two land uses at all the paired sites. Re- duced abundance and＇biomass of soil mesofauna were recorded in defor- ested soils. However, soil anecic species were more abundant in defor- ested soils than epigeic and endogeic species, which were more abundant in forested soils than on deforested sites.

Time-Resolved Emission Spectroscopic Study of Laser-Induced Steel Plasmas

Laser-induced steel plasma is generated by focusing a Q-switched Nd：YAG visible laser（532 nm wavelength） with an irradiance of 1 x 109 W/cm2 on a steel sample in air at atmospheric *** Echelle spectrograph coupled with a gateable intensified charge-coupled detector is used to record the plasma *** time-resolved spectroscopic measurements of the plasma emissions,the temperature and electron number density of the steel plasma are determined for many times of the detector *** validity of the assumption by the spectroscopic methods that the laser-induced plasma（LIP） is optically thin and is also in local thermodynamic equilibrium（LTE） has been evaluated for many delay *** the temporal evolution of the intensity ratio of two Fe I lines and matching it with its theoretical value,the delay times where the plasma is optically thin and is also in LTE are found to be 800 ns,900 ns and 1000 ns.

We revisit the novel symmetries in N=2 supersymmetric quantum mechanical models by considering specific examples of coupled ***,we extend our analysis to a general case and list out all the novel *** each case,we show the existence of two sets of discrete symmetries that correspond to the Hodge duality operator of differential ***,we are able to provide a proof of the conjecture which points out the existence of more than one set of discrete symmetry transformations corresponding to the Hodge duality ***,we derive on-shell nilpotent symmetries for a generalized superpotential within the framework of supervariable approach.

Determining the relationship between chemical composition and size, shape and effective density of airborne fine particles through concurrent use of inertial and optical based measurements

This study presents the development of a medium flow, multiple slit based Pm2.5 （particle aerodynamic diameter 〈2.5 μm） inertial impactor. Its performance was compared with that of a light scattering based optical particle sizer in a field study and in controlled lab based experiments using polydisperse dolomite powder as test aerosol. The impactor＇s optimum nozzle configuration had a cutoff size of 2.51 μm （aero- dynamic diameter） at an operating flow rate of 215 L/rain with a pressure drop of 0.35 kPa across the impactor stage. Because the apparent particle density of an ambient aerosol depends on the physical properties and the chemical composition of the particles, the Pm2.5 mass concentration was measured with an optical particle sizer and an inertial impactor over a weekday and a weekend day in a field study during which the effective particle shape factor and density were in tandem modified in order to com- pare the results from the two sampling techniques. The correlation of the two instrument results tended towards 1：1 with increasing values of shape factor （irregular shaped） and effective particle density. This observation was supported through chemical investigations of the collected mass, which showed a higher percentage contribution from elements which are mostly of crustal nature （namely, Ca, Fe, and mg）.
