Hippocampal neuronal loss causes cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s *** hippocampal neurogenesis is reduced in patients with Alzheimer’s *** stimulates adult hippocampal neurogenesis in rodents and improves memory and slows cognitive decline in patients with Alzheimer’s ***,the molecular pathways for exercise-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and improved cognition in Alzheimer’s disease are poorly ***,regulator of G protein signaling 6(RGS6)was identified as the mediator of voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis in ***,we generated novel RGS6fl/fl;APP_(SWe) mice and used retroviral approaches to examine the impact of RGS6 deletion from dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells on voluntary running-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis and cognition in an amyloid-based Alzheimer’s disease mouse *** found that voluntary running in APP_(SWe) mice restored their hippocampal cognitive impairments to that of control *** cognitive rescue was abolished by RGS6 deletion in dentate gyrus neuronal progenitor cells,which also abolished running-mediated increases in adult hippocampal *** hippocampal neurogenesis was reduced in sedentary APP_(SWe) mice versus control mice,with basal adult hippocampal neurogenesis reduced by RGS6 deletion in dentate gyrus neural precursor ***6 was expressed in neurons within the dentate gyrus of patients with Alzheimer’s disease with significant loss of these RGS6-expressing ***,RGS6 mediated voluntary running-induced rescue of impaired cognition and adult hippocampal neurogenesis in APP_(SWe) mice,identifying RGS6 in dentate gyrus neural precursor cells as a possible therapeutic target in Alzheimer’s disease.

In vitro corrosion-fatigue behavior of biodegradable mg/HA composite in simulated body fluid

magnesium and its composites as biodegradable materials offer especial capabilities to be used as bio-absorbable ***,their poor corrosion and fatigue properties in the physiological environment can restrict their *** this study,corrosion-fatigue tests have been performed on the extruded magnesium and magnesium/hydroxyapatite(mg/HA)composites in a high cycle *** produce the composites,pure magnesium was reinforced by 2.5 wt.%and 5 wt.%of hydroxyapatite submicron particles using an electromagneticmechanical stirring method and hot extrusion *** experimental density measurement exhibits that the porosity increases in the extruded samples with more hydroxyapatite *** investigate the corrosion and corrosion-fatigue behavior of the specimens,simulated body fluid(SBF)was used during in vitro *** results of the potentiodynamic polarization corrosion test show that the composite with 2.5 wt.%of hydroxyapatite(mg/2.5 wt.%HA)and the pure magnesium specimen exhibit the highest and the lowest corrosion resistance,*** the elemental mapping analysis of the corroded samples,this behavior could be due to the formation of strong phosphorus-calcium based layers on the composite *** results obtained from the mechanical tests indicate that mg/5 wt.%HA offered the highest tensile and compressive yield strengths,as well as the most promising high cycle fatigue *** the corrosionfatigue test,the simultaneous effects of fatigue and corrosion damages led to a similar corrosion-fatigue behavior in both *** fracture surfaces of the corrosion-fatigue samples suggest that the cracks are initiated in the corroded regions of the samples surface,which reduces the crack initiation step and subsequently decreases the fatigue *** comparison with the pure magnesium,both composites exhibit more promising corrosion and corrosion-fatigue behaviors with a significant fatigue life improvement in the ph

Comparison of the thermal properties of clay samples as potential walling material for naturally cooled building design

The thermal properties of different clay samples obtained from locations in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria were investigated and compared, and in order to establish their suitability as building material from energy conservation point of view. The results showed that stoneware clay has the highest solar radiation absorptivity of 22 32 m -1 while kaolin clay has the lowest radiation absoptivity of 14 46 m -1 A model for the prediction of temperature variation with thickness of the samples was developed. Results showed that kaolin would make the best choice for the design of a naturally cooled building.

Direct measurements of the electron energy Flux versus electron Temperature Gradient in Tokamak Discharges

electron thermal transport is one of the most complex processes in fusionplasmas. It is generally described by a simple thermal diffusivity in transport analyses ofdischarges, but there is evidence of critical gradient effects with moderate stiffness. By analyzingperiodic perturbations to an equilibrium, one canmeasure the variations in electron energy flux andelectron temperature gradient over the perturbation cycle, obtaining the flux as a function ofgradient over the range of parameters generated by the perturbation. Although time-dependenttransport analysis is very sensitive to noise in the input data, averaging over many cycles of aperiodic perturbation can provide data of sufficient quality. The analyses presented here are basedon the eCe temperature data with high spatial and temporal resolution and full profile coverage onDIII-D for sawteeth and modulated eCH heating.

Wear Behavior of PTFe–Hydroxyapatite Composite Fabricated by Hot-Press Sintering Process

In the present work, a new biocompatible composite was fabricated by hot-press sinter-bonding of polytet- rafluoroethylene （PTFe）-hydroxyapatite composite. Furthermore, the wear properties of this composite were studied by computer-controlled pin-on-disk type tribometer in reporting volume loss per distance. The investigation was performed in three different fractions of hydroxyapatite （10, 20 and 30 wt%）. In order to improve the bonding between hydroxyapatite and PTFe, and thus to increase the wear properties of the composite, the effect of adding silane-coupling agent was investigated. Furthermore, to simulate the environment of human body, some of the wear tests were carried out in the ringer＇s solution. It was found that the wear resistance is improved at high load. moreover, an optimum fraction of hydroxyapatite （20 wt%） was found in which the best wear resistance is achieved, especially at dry sliding condition. At last, the roles of the factors such as wear load, ringer＇s solution, and silane-coupling agent are described with respect to their influences on the Lancaster wear coefficient.

Prostate-specific antigen （PSA） along with digital rectal exam has been the standard for prostate cancer screening in the United States for the past 20 years.1 During this time period, the improved detection of prostate cancer decreased related mortality more than 30%.2 In fact, metastases and their comorbidities have decreased more than 75% since the early 1990s, resulting in a higher incidence of early organ-confined disease. While it is clear that prostate cancer mortality statistics have improved, it is unclear whether men are overscreened.

Analytical solution for laminar flow through leaky tube

The laminar flow through a leaky tube is investigated, and the momentum and conservation of energy equations are solved analytically. By using the Hagen-Poiseuille velocity profile and defining unknown functions for the axial and radial velocity compo- nents, the pressure and mass transfer equations are obtained, and their profiles are plotted according to different parameters. The results indicate that the axial velocity, the radial velocity, the mass transfer parameter, and the pressure in the tube decrease as the fluid moves along the tube.

Inflation in Non-de Sitter Background with Coherent States

We use the excited coherent states built over the initial non-de Sitter modes,to study the modification of spectra of primordial scalar ***-de Sitter modes are actually the asymptotic solution of the inflaton field equation[*** energy Phys.09（2014） 020].We build excited coherent states over the non-de Sitter modes and despite the Jack of interactions in the Lagrangian,we find a non-zero one-point *** is shown that the primordial non-Gaussianity resulting from excited-de Sitter modes depend both of time and background *** is very tiny of order（≤10^-24）,at the Planck initial fixed time that confirmed by resent observations for single field inflation but it grows in the present ***,our results at the leading order are similar to what obtained with general initial states and in the dS limit leads to standard results[***.1202（2012） 005].We will show that the non-dS modes and its resulting spectrum are more usable for far past time limit.

Use of mesophilic and thermophilic bacteria for the improvement of copper extraction from a low-grade ore

Bioleaching was examined for copper extraction from a low grade ore using mesophilic and moderate thermophilic bacteria. Five equal size columns were used for the leaching of the ore. Sulfuric acid solution with a flow rate of 3.12 L·m-2·h-1 and pH 1.5 passed through each column continuously for 90 d. In the first and the second column, bioleaching was performed without agglomeration of the ore and on the agglomerated ore, respectively. 28wt% of the copper was extracted in the first column after 40 d, while this figure was 38wt% in the second column. After 90 d, however, the overall extractions were almost the same for both of them. Bioleaching with mesophilic bacteria was performed in the third column without agglomeration of the ore and in the fourth column on the agglomerated ore. After 40 d, copper extractions in the third and the fourth columns were 62wt% and 70wt%, respectively. Copper extractions were 75wt% for both the columns after 90 d. For the last column, bioleaching was performed with moderate thermophilic bacteria and agglomerated ore. Copper extractions were 80wt% and 85wt% after 40 and 90 d, respectively. It was concluded that crushing and agglomeration of the ore using bacteria could enhance the copper extraction considerably.
