callus cultures of Annona muricata and Annona purpurea were induced in murashige and Skoog(mS)medium supplemented with different concentrations of 1-naphthylacetic acid(nAA),6-benzyladenine(BA)and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D)utilized hypocotyls with *** highest percentage of callus formation was the treatment supplemented with 3 mg L-1 nAA for ***(100%)while for *** in lower percentage(75%).BA stimulated the formation of shoots in all the evaluated concentrations,being the concentration of 2 mg L-1 the one that induced the greater formation of shoots for ***(23 shoots/explant)and ***(28 shoots/explant).The content of total phenols,flavonoids and antioxidant activity was measured in the callus obtained from both *** results showed that a higher content of total phenols was quantified in callus of ***(27.8 mg g-1 dw)compared to ***(23.2 mg g-1 dw).The highest content of total flavonoids was observed in the callus of ***(8.0μg g-1 dw).Antioxidant activity was determined by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydracil radical *** concentration required for 50%inhibition(Ic50)of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydracil radicals were 4.22μg mL-1 in methanolic extracts of callus of ***,while in extracts of callus of *** was 2.86μg mL-1,in both cases was greater than that found for *** culture of the species studied in this work represents an alternative for the production of natural antioxidants.

Influence of the Accumulative Roll Bonding Process Severity on the microstructure and Superplastic Behaviour of 7075 Al Alloy

The 7075 Al alloy was processed by accumulative roll bonding （ARB） at 350 ℃ using 2：1, 3：1 and 4：1 thickness reductions per pass （Rp） up to 8, 6 and 3 passes, respectively. microstructural examinations of the processed samples revealed that ARB leads to a microstructure composed of equiaxed crystallites with a mean size generally lower than 500 nm. It was found that, due to both the stored energy through- out the processing and the particle pinning effect, the alloy is affected by discontinuous recrystallisation during the inter-pass heating stages, the precise microstructural evolution being dependent on Rp. me- chanical testing of the ARBed samples revealed that the main active deformation mechanism in the ARBed samples in the temperature range from 250 to 350 ℃ at intermediate and high strain rates is grain bound- ary sliding, the superplastic properties being determined by both the microstructure after ARB and its thermal stability.

Exploiting novel molecular targets in gastrointestinal cancers

novel molecular targets are being discovered as we learn more about the aberrant processes underlying various cancers. Efforts to translate this knowledge are starting to impact on the care of patients with gastrointestinal cancers. The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway and angiogenesis have been targeted successfully in colorectal cancer with cetuximab, panitunumab and bevacizumab. Similarly, EGFR-targeting with erlotinib yielded significant survival benefit in pancreatic cancer when combined with gemcitabine. The multi-targeting approach with sorafenib has made it the first agent to achieve significant survival benefit in hepatocellular carcinoma. Efforts to exploit the dysregulated Akt/mTOR pathway in GI cancer therapy are ongoing. These molecular targets can be disrupted by various approaches, including the use of monoclonal antibody to intercept extracellular ligands and disrupt receptor-ligand binding, and small molecule inhibitors that interrupt the activation of intracellular kinases.

Efficacy and safety of XEn 45 gel stent alone or in combination with phacoemulsification in advanced open angle glaucoma patients: 1-year retrospective study

AIm:To assess the effectiveness of the XEn 45 gel stent,either alone or combined with cataract surgery,in advanced stage open angle glaucoma(OAG)***:Retrospective and single-center study conducted on consecutive OAG patients who underwent a XEn 45 gel stent implantation surgery,between July 2017 and September *** primary efficacy end-point was the mean intraocular pressure(IOP)reduction at the end of the follow-up *** was defined as an IOP reduction of at least 20%and an IOP value≤18 mm Hg without(complete)or with(qualified)hypotensive ***:Seventy-four patients(80 eyes)were included in the *** the overall study sample,XEn implant significantly reduced IOP from 21.0(19.8 to 22.1)mm Hg at baseline to 9.3(8.2 to 10.4),10.7(9.6 to 11.9),13.4(12.2 to 14.7),14.5(13.6 to 15.4),14.7(13.8 to 15.6),and 14.7(13.9 to 15.4)mm Hg at 1 d,1 wk,1,3,6,and 12 mo of follow-up,respectively(Pch).In the overall study population,at the end of the study the mean IOP reduction was 27.4%(23.3%to 31.5%).Adjusted IOP reduction was similar in XEn and XEn+phacoemulsification groups[30.0(23.4 to 36.4)mm Hg vs 24.8(18.4 to 31.2)mm Hg,respectively,P=0.2939].At the last follow-up visit,52(65.0%)eyes were considered success,29(36.3%)eyes as complete success and 23(28.7%)as qualified *** number of hypotensive medications was significantly reduced from 2.8(2.7 to 3.0)at baseline to 1.1(0.8 to 1.3),Pmeier survival analysis did not find any difference in the success rate between XEn and XEn+PHAcO,mean hazard ratio 0.56,95%cI 0.26 to 1.23;P=*** was performed in 7(8.8%)eyes at months 1(n=3);3(n=2);4(n=1)and 11(n=1).Eleven(13.8%)eyes presented adverse ***:XEn implant,either alone or in combination with phacoemulsification,significantly reduced the IOP and the number of hypotensive medications in patients with OAG in advanced stage.

The effect of heat treatment on the mechanical and biocorrosion behaviour of the mg-1 wt.%Zn-1 wt.%ca(ZX11)and mg-3 wt.%Zn-0.4 wt.%ca(ZX30)alloys was *** this purpose,three-point bending tests as well as electrochemical and immersion tests in Hank’s solution were performed on both alloys in four different thermal conditions:as-cast,solution-treated,peak-aged and *** examinations revealed that the as-cast ZX11 and ZX30 alloys exhibit a microstructure composed ofα-mg grains separated by large mg_(2)ca and ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles and by large ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles,*** solution treatment,the ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) precipitates at the grain boundaries(GBs)are fully dissolved in the ZX11 alloy,but mainly redistributed to form a more connected configuration in the ZX30 alloy,showing a poor age-hardening ***,after solution-treatment,galvanic corrosion and corrosion rate decreases in the former,but increases in the *** peak-aged condition displays the highest corrosion rate for both alloys,maybe due to an excessive number density of fine ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles acting as cathodic ***,the over-aged condition shows the lowest corrosion rate for the ZX11 alloy and a very similar one to that of the as-cast sample for the ZX30 *** ZX11 alloy shows generally better biocorrosion behaviour than the ZX30 alloy to its lower content in the ca_(2)mg_(6)Zn_(3) phase and thus reduced galvanic *** mg_(2)ca phase present in the studied ZX11 alloy has been proved to exhibit an increased corrosion potential,which has been related to an observed enrichment with Zn.

Interaction of silver nanoparticles with mediterranean agricultural soils: Lab-controlled adsorption and desorption studies

The production of silver nanoparticles(AgnPs) has increased tremendously during recent years due to their antibacterial and physicochemical properties. As a consequence, these particles are released inevitably into the environment, with soil being the main sink of disposal. Soil interactions have an effect on AgnP mobility, transport and bioavailability. To understand AgnP adsorption processes, lab-controlled kinetic studies were *** tests performed with five different mediterranean agricultural soils showed that cation exchange capacity and electrical conductivity are the main parameters controlling the adsorption processes. The adsorption kinetics of different sized(40, 75, 100 and 200 nm)and coated(citrate, polyvinylpyrrolidone and polyethyleneglycol(PEG)) AgnPs indicated that these nanoparticle properties have also an effect on the adsorption *** assess the mobility and bioavailability of AgnPs and to determine if their form is maintained during adsorption/desorption processes, loaded soils were submitted to leaching tests three weeks after batch adsorption studies. The DIn 38414-S4 extraction method indicated that AgnPs were strongly retained on soils, and single-particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry confirmed that silver particles maintained their nanoform, except for 100 nm PEG-AgnPs and 40 nm citrate-coated AgnPs. The DTPA(diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) leaching test was more effective in extracting silver,but there was no presence of AgnPs in almost all of these leachates.

Background： Sperm DnA fragmentation（sDF） has been proved to be an important parameter in order to predict in vitro the potential fertility of a semen sample. colloid centrifugation could be a suitable technique to select those donkey sperm more resistant to DnA fragmentation after thawing. Previous studies have shown that to elucidate the latent damage of the DnA molecule, sDF should be assessed dynamically, where the rate of fragmentation between treatments indicates how resistant the DnA is to iatrogenic damage. The rate of fragmentation is calculated using the slope of a linear regression equation. However, it has not been studied if s DF dynamics fit this model. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of different after-thawing centrifugation protocols on sperm DnA fragmentation and elucidate the most accurate mathematical model（linear regression, exponential or polynomial） for DnA fragmentation over time in frozen-thawed donkey ***： After submitting post-thaw semen samples to no centrifugation（UDc）, sperm washing（SW） or single layer centrifugation（SLc） protocols, sD F values after 6 h of incubation were significantly lower in SLc samples than in SW or *** of determination（R-2） values were significantly higher for a second order polynomial model than for linear or exponential. The highest values for acceleration of fragmentation（aSDF） were obtained for SW, fol owed by SLc and ***： SLc after thawing seems to preserve longer DnA longevity in comparison to UDc and SW. moreover,the fine-tuning of models has shown that sDF dynamics in frozen-thawed donkey semen fit a second order polynomial model, which implies that fragmentation rate is not constant and fragmentation acceleration must be taken into account to elucidate hidden damage in the DnA molecule.

Determination of altitudes of the three main Ecuadorian summits through GnSS positioning

Determining the altitude of mountains is one of the most fundamental challenges for ***,the main objective of the study is to determine the altitudes of the three main summits in Ecuador through GnSS positioning,referring to the official vertical datum of Ecuador and the geo-potential surface(W_(o)).The three peaks are active volcanoes named chimborazo,cotopaxi and cayambe,all of which are known to be over 5700 m above sea *** GnSS was performed on the summit of the volcanoes,and the GPS leveling method was applied on nearby *** these summits,the correction of the potential difference between the mean sea level and W_(o) was *** altitudes referred to the mean sea level were compared with other registered heights,and the results are more accurate than previous geodetic missions.

cadmium sorption by sodium and thiourea-modified zeolite-rich tuffs

In the present investigation, two zeolite-rich tuffs from Guaymas and El cajon（State of Sonora）, which were conditioned with a sodium chloride solution and subsequently modified with a thiourea solution, were chosen to evaluate the removal of cd from aqueous systems. The zeolitic materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The surface area was also determined. The experiments were performed in a batch system, and the influences of p H, contact time between phases, and the concentration of cd in the solution on the adsorption by sodium or thiourea-modified zeolite-rich tuff were investigated. It was found that the efficiency of cd ion removal from aqueous solutions is influenced by the p H of the aqueous systems. The cd adsorption kinetic data were well fitted to a pseudo-second-order model in all cases. The Langmuir and Langmuir–Freundlich isotherms adequately described the cd sorption behavior by the zeolite from El cajon pretreated with na cl and the zeolite from Guaymas modified with thiourea, respectively.
