In this work,we report long-term trends in the abundance and breeding performance of Adélie penguins(Pygoscelis adeliae)nesting in three Antarctic colonies(i.e.,at martin Point,South Orkneys Islands;Stranger Point/cabo Funes,South Shetland Islands;and Esperanza/Hope Bay in the Antarctic Peninsula)from 1995/96 to 2022/*** yearly count data of breeding groups selected,we observed a decline in the number of breeding pairs and chicks in crèche at all colonies ***,the magnitude of change was higher at Stranger Point than that in the remaining ***,the index of breeding success,which was calculated as the ratio of chicks in crèche to breeding pairs,exhibited no apparent trend throughout the study ***,it displayed greater variability at martin Point compared to the other two colonies under *** the number of chicks in crèche of Adélie penguins showed a declining pattern,the average breeding performance was similar to that reported in gentoo penguin colonies,specifically,those undergoing a population increase(even in sympatric colonies facing similar local conditions).consequently,it is plausible to assume a reduction of the over-winter survival as a likely cause of the declining trend observed,at least in the Stranger Point and Esperanza ***,we cannot rule out local effects during the breeding season affecting the Adélie population of martin Point.

The influence of resistance exercise training prescription variables on skeletal muscle mass,strength,and physical function in healthy adults:An umbrella review

Post-fire recovery of Puya raimondii, vegetation and birds in the puna of Huascarán National Park, Perú

A large fire of 233 ha in Huascarán National Park in Peru provided an opportunity to compare plant and bird responses in burned and nearby unburned zones of the puna. Heights and live diameters of flagship Puya raimondii rosettes(assigned to four broad developmental phases), plant communities(66 species in 24 families and nine growth forms) and bird communities(77 species in six trophic guilds) were monitored after the fire. Although no mortality was observed, Puya raimondii plants were affected by the fire, losing approximately 60% of their photosynthetic area across all developmental phases, but recovered quickly during the first two years after fire. The comparison of Puya rosette recovery after fire was complicated by the changes in live rosette diameter for unburned plants, which showed plasticity of photosynthetic area linked to seasonal and annual fluctuations in precipitation in this relatively dry environment(decreased by 26% for mature adult plants over the study period). Fire caused an immediate change in the density, biomass and composition of vegetation. Although the species present remained similar, their abundances changed significantly immediately after the fire, with notable reductions in dominant tussock grasses. This provided opportunities for other plants, resulting in higher postfire diversity of plant species, genera, families and growth forms. In turn, the changes in vegetation after fire affected the composition of birds according to their trophic guild. Granivores largely disappeared,generalists were mostly unaffected, and other guilds showed a more complex response. As the vegetation recovered, most displaced birds returned within approximately one year.

We investigated ^(50,52-54)cr-induced fusion reactions for the synthesis of the superheavy element in the 104≤Z≤122 *** cross sections produced in this investigation using ^(54)cr projectiles were compared with those obtained in prior *** estimated cross sections from this analysis are consistent with the findings of prior *** the current study,the predicted cross section was found to be 42fb at 236 meV for ^(53)cr+^(243)Am,23.2 fb at 236 meV for ^(54)cr+^(247)cm,95.6 fb at 240 meV for ^(53)cr+248Bk,and 1.33 fb at 242 meV for ^(53)cr+***,these projected cross sections with excitation energy and beam energy will be useful in future cr-induced fusion reaction investigations.

cO oxidation under lean and stoichiometric conditions over ceriazirconia with very low metal contents(cu,co,Ag and Pt)

In this work,several ceria-zirconia based catalysts with very lo w（and equimolar） metal contents were prepared,characterised and tested for the cO oxidatio n reaction（under lean and stoichiometric conditions）,trying to emulate those conditions found in a diesel oxidation catalyst（DOc） system from a diesel engine and those encountered under gasoline exhaust（λ=1）.The metals chosen are cu,co,Ag and Pt（as a reliable benchmark）.The results reveal enormous differences among reducibility and catalytic activity despite quite similar structural and textural properties of the catalysts,showing differences among dispersion（Ag-catalyst seems to present a low level of dispersion）.This catalyst seems to be characterised,as well,by a strong electronic interaction between ce and Ag centres which is suggested to yield an improved reducibility under H2-TPR ***,the order in catalytic activity（cu>Ag>co≈Pt>>support） seems not to follow the order found in reducibility and the cu-catalyst seems to be the most active independently on the reaction conditions,yielding nearly overlapped cO oxidation catalytic *** restingly,a stro ng correlation between the catalytic activity under the two conditions tested and the OSc values of the ce0.8Zr0.2O2-supported metal catalysts is ***,OSc parameter measured at 150℃ can be used as a relevant descriptor to evaluate the cO oxidation activity at low and medium.c.nversions for the investigated catalysts,m.c. better than the H2-TPR measurements.

Hydrocarbon indication in Rio Bonito Formation sandstone:Implication for cO_(2)storage in São Paulo,Brazil

São Paulo State has witnessed cO_(2)storage-based investigations considering the availability of suitable geologic structures and proximity to primary cO_(2)source sinks related to bioenergy and carbon capture and storage(BEccS)*** current study presents the hydrocarbon viability evaluations and cO_(2)storage prospects,focusing on the sandstone units of the Rio Bonito *** objective is to apply petrophysical evaluations with geochem.c.l inputs in predicting future hydrocarbon(gas)production to boost cO_(2)storage within the study *** study used data from eleven wells with associated wireline logs(gamma ray,resistivity,density,neutron,and sonic)to predict potential hydrocarbon accumulation and fluid mobility in the investigated *** samples(shale and carbonate)obtained from depths>200 m within the study location have shown bitumen *** geochemistry data of the Rio Bonito Formation shale beds suggest they are potential hydrocarbon source rocks and could have contributed to the gas accumulations within the sandstone *** drilled well data,e.g.,cB-1-SP and TI-1-SP,show hydrocarbon(gas)presence based on the typical resistivity and the combined neutron-density responses at depths up to 3400 m,indicating the possibility of other hydrocarbon members apart from the heavy oil(bitumen)observed from the near-surface rocks *** the three-dimensional(3-D)model,the free fluid indicator(FFI)is more significant towards the southwest and southeast of the area with deeper depths of occurrence,indicating portions with reasonable hydrocarbon recovery rates and good prospects for cO_(2)injection,circulation and permanent ***,future studies based on contemporary datasets are required to establish the hydrocarbon viability further,foster gas production events,and enhance cO_(2)storage possibilities within the region.

The present study was to evaluate the effect of trace minerals(Zn,mn,and cu)from.c.mplexed amino acid minerals(ZmcAA)and bis-glycinate chelated minerals(ZmcGly)in laying hen diets on performance,internal and external egg quality,yolk mineral deposition,intestinal morphometry,and bone *** 78 to 98 weeks of age,400 White LSL-Lite strain laying hens were distributed in a randomized design with 4 treatments with 10 replicates per *** were distributed in a 2×2 factorial arrangement using either Zn,mn,and cu of ZmcAA or ZmcGly source at 2 levels:low(20,20,and 3.5 mg/kg of Zn,mn,and cu,respectively)or high(40,40,and 7 mg/kg of Zn,mn,and cu,respectively).The analysis of variance was performed,and in cases where differences were observed,the means were compared using Tukey?s test(Pce and level of trace mineral supplementation had a significant impact on the performance of laying *** fed ZmcAA had higher egg production(P=0.01),egg weight(P=0.02),egg mass(P=0.01),and lower feed conversion ratio(P=0.05)compared to those fed *** ZmcAA supplementation showed higher albumen height(P=0.01),albumen weight(P=0.01),and eggshell thickness(Pmn(Pcu(Pceived *** weight(P=0.04)and bone densitometry(PmcAA *** the small intestine,ZmcAA resulted in longer villi(P=0.02)and shorter crypt depth(P=0.01)in the *** and ileum measurements were influenced by the level and source of trace minerals(PmcAA exhibited superior performance,egg quality,deposition of trace minerals in the egg yolk,and bone density compared to hens fed *** this study,older laying hens supplemented with ZmcAA at lower levels demonstrated adequate levels of supplementation.

This work explored possibilities of biodegradable magnesium alloy mg-3Y preparation by two modern powder metallurgy techniques–spark plasma sintering(SPS)and selective laser melting(SLm).The powder material was consolidated by both methods utilising optimised parameters,which led to very low porosity(∼0.3%)in the SLm material and unmeasurably low porosity in the SPS *** main aim of the study was the thorough m.c.ostructure characterisation and interrelation between the m.c.ostructure and the functional properties,such as m.c.anical strength,deformability,and corrosion *** materials showed comparable strength of∼110 mPa in tension and compression and relatively good deformability of∼9%and∼21%for the SLm and SPS materials,*** corrosion resistance of the SPS material in 0.1 m Nacl solution was superior to the SLm one and comparable to the conventional extruded *** digital image correlation during loading and the cross-section analysis of the corrosion layers revealed that the residual porosity and large strained grains have the dominant negative effect on the functional properties of the SLm *** the other hand,one of the primary outcomes of this study is that the SPS consolidation method is very effective in the preparation of the W3 biodegradable alloy,resulting in material with convenient m.c.anical and degradation properties that might find practical applications.
