Evolutionary fingerprint, phylogenetic and forest structure of tropical montane Atlantic cloud forests along an elevation gradient

Environmental conditions can change markedly over geographical distances along elevation gradients,making them natural laboratories to study the processes that structure *** work aimed to assess the influences of elevation on Tropical montane Cloud Forest plant communities in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest,a historically neglected *** evaluated the phylogenetic structure,forest structure(tree basal area and tree density)and species richness along an elevation gradient,as well as the evolutionary fingerprints of elevation-success on phylogenetic lineages from the tree *** do so,we assessed nine communities along an elevation gradient from 1210 to 2310 m *** large elevation *** relationships between elevation and phylogenetic structure,forest structure and species richness were investigated through Linear *** occurrence of evolutionary fingerprint on phylogenetic lineages was investigated by quantifying the extent of phylogenetic signal of elevation-success using a genus-level molecular *** results showed decreased species richness at higher elevations and independence between forest structure,phylogenetic structure and *** also verified that there is a phylogenetic signal associated with elevation-success by *** concluded that the elevation is associated with species richness and the occurrence of phylogenetic lineages in the tree communities evaluated in mantiqueira *** the other hand,elevation is not associated with forest structure or phylogenetic ***,closely related taxa tend to have their higher ecological success in similar ***,we highlight the fragility of the tropical montane cloud forests in the mantiqueira Range in face of environmental changes(*** warming)due to the occurrence of exclusive phylogenetic lineages evolutionarily adapted to environmental conditions(*** temperature)associated with each elevation range.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a highly infectious disease and was designated a pandemic by the World Health Organization(WHO)on march 11,*** are no classical manifestations of the *** most prevalent symptoms include fever,cough,dyspnea,myalgia and *** main route of transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 is through the upper respiratory ***,it is not strange to find different ear,nose and throat(ENT)symptoms in individuals infected with this *** dysfunction is a common feature of COVID-19;either it is the only presenting symptom or it accompanies other manifestations of the *** otolaryngological features such as sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL),dysphonia,nasal obstruction,sore throat,*** less frequent manifestations of *** features,in addition,to being presented early in the disease process,certain long-standing symptoms like parosmia,dysphonia,and persistent deafness,are other characteristics of the *** variation in otorhinolaryngological prevalence is another problem with this debilitating *** and systemic adverse effects(local site injection pain,fever,myalgia,headache,and others)of the COVID-19 vaccines are more frequent than otolaryngological side effects(anosmia,hyposmia,Bell’s palsy,SSNHL,etc.).We aimed in this review to summarize the early and persistent ENT symptoms of COVID-19 or after the various COVID-19 vaccines.

Various aspects of hearing loss in newborns:A narrative review

Hearing loss is considered the most common birth *** estimated prevalence of moderate and severe hearing loss in a normal newborn is 0.1%-0.3%,while the prevalence is 2%-4%in newborns admitted to the newborn intensive care *** hearing loss can be congenital(syndromic or nonsyndromic)or acquired such as *** addition,the types of hearing loss can be conductive,sensorineural,or *** is vital for the acquisition of language and ***,early detection and prompt treatment are of utmost importance in preventing the unwanted sequel of hearing *** hearing screening program is mandatory in many nations,especially for high-risk *** automated auditory brainstem response test is used as a screening tool in newborns admitted to the newborn intensive care ***,genetic testing and screening for cytomegalovirus in newborns are essential in identifying the cause of hearing loss,particularly,mild and delayed onset types of hearing *** aimed to update the knowledge on the various aspects of hearing loss in newborns with regard to the epidemiology,risk factors,causes,screening program,investigations,and different modalities of treatment.

Smart grid is envisaged as a power grid that is extremely reliable and *** electrical grid has wide-area measuring devices like Phasor measurement units(PmUs)deployed to provide real-time grid information and resolve issues effectively and speedily without compromising system *** development and application of machine learning approaches for power system protection and state estimation have been facilitated by the availability of measurement *** research proposes a transmission line fault detection and classification(FD&C)system based on an auto-encoder neural network.A comparison between a multi-Layer Extreme Learning machine(mL-ELm)network model and a Stacked Auto-Encoder neural network(SAE)is ***,the performance of the models developed is compared to that of state-of-the-art classifier models employing feature datasets acquired by wavelet transform based feature extraction as well as other deep learning *** substantially shorter testing time,the suggested auto-encoder models detect faults with 100% accuracy and classify faults with 99.92% and 99.79%*** computational efficiency of the mL-ELm model is demonstrated with high accuracy of classification with training time and testing time less than 50 *** emulate real system scenarios the models are developed with datasets with noise with signal-to-noise-ratio(SNR)ranging from 10 dB to 40 *** efficacy of the models is demonstrated with data from the IEEE 39 bus test system.

Facial basal cell carcinoma:A retrospective study of 67 cases

BACKGROUND Basal cell carcinoma(BCC)is a slow-growing malignant tumor characterized by local invasiveness but an exceptionally rare metastatic *** ideally affects sun-exposed skin of older patients with more propensity for the facial *** To evaluate the different clinicopathological characteristics of the facial BCC and the efficacy and safety of diode laser for the treatment of these *** We retrospectively reviewed facial BCC lesions ofm in diameter and subjected them to diode laser ablation during the period from September 2016 to August 2021 at Al-Ramadi Teaching Hospital,Ramadi City,*** matching the age,gender,duration,site,and clinical and histological types were registered for every *** functional and aesthetic outcomes and complications following diode laser ablation for each patient were also *** Of 67 patients with facial BCC,there was 65.67%from the age group≥60 years and 58.21%*** mean duration of the lesions was 5.15±1.836 *** most involved location was the nose(29.85%).About half of the cases belong to the noduloulcerative *** histological type comprises 40.3%of the cases,while the least was keratotic(13.4%).moreover,65.2%of the solid cases were from the age group≤60 years and 38.6%of the adenoid type from the age group>60 years(P value=0.007).Excellent aesthetic and functional outcomes were reported in all cases after 6 mo of *** complications were reported after diode laser *** Facial BCC was mostly seen in the elderly and *** mean duration was 5.15 *** nose was the commonest involved *** lesions were seen in approximately half of the *** age of the patients determined the histological type of the lesion(solid type was mostly seen in the age group≤60 years,while,adenoid in the age group>60 years).Diode laser ablation showed excellent functional and aesthetic outcomes following a 6-mo follow-up.

modifying solid catalysts with an ionic liquid layer is an effective approach for boosting the performance of both Pt-based and non-precious metal catalysts toward the oxygen reduction reaction. While most studies operated at room temperature it remains unclear whether the IL-associated boosting effect can be maintained at elevated temperature, which is of high relevance for practical applications in low temperature fuel cells. Herein, Fe-N-C catalysts were modified by introducing small amounts of hydrophobic ionic liquid, resulting in boosted electrocatalytic activity towards the alkaline oxygen reduction reaction at room temperature. It is demonstrated that the boosting effect can be maintained and even strengthened when increasing the electrolyte temperature up to 70℃. These findings show for the first time that the incorporation of ionic liquid is a suited method to obtain advanced noble metal-free electrocatalysts that can be applied at operating temperature condition.

Continuous monitoring of Oxygen Chemical Potential on the Surface of Growing Scales and Its Application to High Temperature Oxidation of metals

There are two kinetic regimes in high temperature oxidation of metals and *** is the parabolic kinetics in which the ionic diffusion through oxide scales is the rate-determining *** other is the linear kinetics in which rate determining process is the supply of oxidant through the gaseous boundary *** oxygen chemical potential is almost the same as that in the atmosphere in the former case,but in the later case,the oxygen chemical potential is much lower than that in the *** oxygen chemical potential at the surface of scale is a good measure of the protective character of the scale.

Improvement in corrosion resistance of magnesium coating with cerium treatment

Corrosion protection afforded by a magnesium coating treated in cerium salt solution on steel substrate was investigated using open circuit potential, polarization curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） in 0.005 m sodium chloride solution （NaCl）. The morphology of the surface was characterized by scanning electron microscopy （SEm）, energy dispersive spectroscopy （EDS）, and X-ray diffraction （XRD）. The cerium treated coating was obtained by immersion in CeCl3 solution. The results showed that the corrosion resistance of the treated magnesium coating was improved. The corrosion potential of the treated coating was found to be nobler than that of the untreated magnesium coating and the corrosion current decreased significantly. Impedance results showed that the cerium treatment increased corrosion protection. The improvement of anti-corrosion properties was attributed to the formation of cerium oxides and hydroxides that gave rise to a physical barrier effect.
