Berberis species medicinal plants in Pakistan are endangered, high-value with important eco-cultural, commercial and livelihood roles in mountain communities. To assess the geographical distribution of Berberis species across the Karakoram mountain Ranges in Pakistan, we used IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria （2001） to calculate the extent of occurrence （EOO, 〈100 km^2） and the area of occupancy （AOO, 〈10 km^2） of Berberis pseudumbellata subsp, pseudumbellata and B. pseudumbellata subsp. gilgitica. Overgrazing and habitat loss were key population- limiting factors. The two subspecies had contrasting responses to temperature, elevation, precipitation and insect susceptibility. B. pseudumbellata subsp, gilgitica is endemic to Gilgit-Baltistan and grows in single-cropping zone （ar- eas 〉 200 m a.s.1.）. Status evaluation revealed that both subspecies meet the criteria set for critically endangered species. Prolonged disregard of its declining population trend might lead to its extinction; therefore, integrated con- servation efforts are necessary.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to present an analysis of orbital lesions by classifying them according to the site of origin in patients of all ages presenting at a tertiary care eye hospital from 1996 till 2012. methods: 1637 patients were initially enrolled in this descriptive case series. Clinical data of 1246 patients who completed the study during 17 years were analyzed. Orbital lesions of the patients were examined and managed medically or surgically as per requirement. The histopathological reports of these patients were used to classify the lesions. Results: Out of all cases 54.57% (n = 680) were neoplastic and 45.42% (n = 566) were nonneoplastic lesions. Amongst the neoplastic lesions 86.17% (n = 586) were malignant and 13.82% (n = 94) were benign. Primary orbital lesions were the most common orbital lesions being 963 (77.29%) followed by secondary orbital lesions being 232 (18.62%), hematopoietic reticuloendothelial being 47 (3.77%) and metastatic lesions being 04 (0.32%). Conclusion: Orbital lesions are more common in adults as compared to children. Neoplastic lesions are more common than nonneoplastic lesions, and amongst the neoplastic lesions malignant lesions are more common than benign ones. Primary orbital lesions are the most common orbital lesions followed by secondary orbital lesions, lesions of the hematopoietic reticuloendothelial system and metastatic lesions.

The effects of the filtering granule particle size and filtration superficial velocity on the dust particle size distribution in different layers of a granular bed system are discussed herein.A multilayer drawer granular bed filtration system was designed for these experiments based on filtering fly ash from a power *** a 1-h experiment,47.8% of dust particles smaller than 2.5μm,63.7% of dust particles smaller than 10μm,and 39.1% of dust particles larger than 10μm were captured by the granular bed(corresponding to initial volume fractions of 6%,19.3%,and 80.7%,respectively).Large dust particles were more easily trapped by the granular bed than small dust *** the size of the filter granules and increasing the superficial velocity of the inlet flue gas were both effective ways to enhance the dust-holding capacity of the granular media throughout the granular bed.

Seismic hazard assessment is carried out by utilizing deterministic approach to evaluate the maximum expected earthquake ground motions along the Western Coastal Province of Saudi Arabia. The analysis is accomplished by incorporating seismotectonic source model, determination of earthquake magnitude （mmax）, set of appropriate ground motion predictive equations （GmPE）, and logic tree sequence. The logic tree sequence is built up to assign weight to ground motion scaling relationships. Contour maps of ground acceleration are generated at different spectral periods. These maps show that the largest ground motion values are emerged in northern and southern regions of the western coastal province in Saudi Arabia in comparison with the central region.

Since its initial characterization, pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has remained one of the most devastating and difficult cancers to treat. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, resulting in an estimated 38460 deaths annually. With few screening tools available to detect this disease at an early stage, 94% of patients will die within five years of diagnosis. Despite decades of research that have led to a better understanding of the molecular and cellular signaling pathways in pancreatic cancer cells, few effective therapies have been developed to target these pathways. Other treatment options have included more sophisticated pancreatic cancer surgeries and combination therapies. While outcomes have improved modestly for these patients, more effective treatments are desperately needed. One of the greatest challenges in the future of treating this malignancy will be to develop therapies that target the tumor microenvironment and surrounding pancreatic cancer stem cells in addition to pancreatic cancer cells. Recent advances in targeting pancreatic stellate cells and the stroma have encouraged researchers to shift their focus to the role of desmoplasia in pancreatic cancer pathobiology in the hopes of developing newer-generation therapies. By combining novel agents with current cytotoxic chemotherapies and radiation therapy and personalizing them to each patient based on specific biomarkers, the goal of prolonging a patient’s life could be achieved. Here we review the most effective therapies that have been used for the treatment of pancreatic cancer and discuss the future potential of therapeutic options.

The successful exploration and production of shale-gas resources in the United States and Canada sets a new possible solution towards the energy crisis presently affecting most countries of Asia. This study focuses on the use of well log and 2D seismic data for the characterization of the shale oil/gas potential of a Paleocene-Eocene succession -- the meyal area in the Potwar Basin of Pakistan. Two shaly plays are identified in Paleocene-Eocene strata in well logs using ALogR and modified ALogR cross-plot techniques. The results indicate that Paleocene shale （the Patala Formation） and the lower shaly part of Eocene limestone （Sakesar Formation） can be potentially mature source rocks. However, the thermal maturity modelling proves that only the Paleocene shale is mature. Our results also suggest that the maturity responses on ALogR models for the lower shaly part of the Eocene limestone are due to trapped hydrocarbons in the intra-formational fractures. Petroelastic/petrophysical analysis of the Patala Formation reveals two potential shale oil/gas zones on the basis of Young＇s modulus, Poisson＇s ratio, Brittleness index and Total Organic Content at an exploitation depth of 3980-3988 m. This work can provide valuable insight for estimating shale oil/gas potential in highly deformed basins not only in Asia but in other parts of the world.

uranium exploration especially in currently non-producing countries like Nigeria possesses high economic prospect. This study investigates a new uranium prospect in mika, Northeastern Nigeria. The mika uranium mineralization is located in mika, Taraba State. Two lodes were identified and additional nine (9) trenches were added. The main lode in the west extends about 10 m, ore vein strikes 348°, inclination 42°and the strike of the lode 306°with average uranium content of 18%. The eastern trench is about 8 × 4 × 6 m which exposes a veinlet of pitchblende. From the petrography, one can deduce that the granitic host rock has suffered deformation resulting in crushing of quartz crystals and stretching of plagioclase. The uraninite and chalcedony in the late phase filled up the fractures along the crystal grain boundaries as veinlets. The laboratory gamma ray analysis of the samples showed that the secondary uranium content is 0.1%, while the primary uranium ore grade is 1.5%. Radiometric in situ measurements showed that Th and K ranges from 47.3 - 3654 ppm and 4.26% - 6.26% respectively. From the survey, a strong radiometric zone extends 800 × 35 m in an NW-SE direction and has highest radiation content of 1200 cpm against the background count rate of 30 cpm. Generally, the uranium concentrations in the ores in mika area range from 0.03% - 0.12%. Since only the surface occurrences have been explored, the study area is a good prospect for future development when properly explored. The North-eastern Nigeria has been roughly explored by Nigeria uranium mining Company (NUmCO) in 1980, but no formal exploration had been followed after that, especially near the site of this article. 本论文分析了微拟绿球藻Nannochloropsis oceanica的主要成分,Nannancholoropsis oceanica蛋白来源丰富,易于获得且价格低廉。微拟球藻是良好蛋白质来源。有很多方法可以从样品中提取蛋白质,其中超声辅助提取研究应用广泛。适度超声辅助提取可提高提取效率,并提高产品质量,同时减少溶剂消耗和时间。天然制备的钙结合肽可有效替代合成药品。Nanocholoropsis蛋白是制备钙螯合肽的较好原料。钙离子可以与肽/氨基酸之间的相互作用形成螯合。首先通过单因素试验以螯合活性、螯合率和收率为指标对超声波功率、质量比、超声波时间、超声波温度和氢氧化钠浓度等条件进行了螯合条件优化。钙螯合肽初步鉴定采用茚三酮显色法。采用不同的酸碱度、高温加热、体外模拟胃肠道消化和PBS缓冲液对钙离子螯合肽的稳定性进行了研究。然后通过紫外光谱、荧光光谱、FTIR、Zeta电位、TG-DCS和X射线分别对螯合物进行表征。最后用SEm和AFm对多肽和钙结合多肽进行了形态分析,并对钙螯合肽进行氨基酸和分子量分布分析,主要研究结论如下:（1）首先优化获得微拟球藻蛋白的最佳提取工艺条件;提取温度40℃,时间60分钟,超声波功率800W,料液比1:50 g/m L,Na OH浓度0.4m,此条件下蛋白提取率94.81±0.151%,粗蛋白得率51.69±0.0121%,提取物中蛋白纯度76.86±0.0191%。然而,传统碱提3h微藻蛋白提取率只有60.02±0.01%。超声提取蛋白提取率高34.79%,提取时间节约三分之二。（2）研究了蛋白的不同理化性质,如起泡能力,起泡稳定性随p H值的升高呈增加趋势,吸水能力随p H值的升高变化。蛋白质的吸油能力在p H值为11时为96.8%,而等电点为p H3.5。当p H大于6时,微绿球藻蛋白溶解度大于97.94±0.015%。蛋白的理化性质表明,p H值的变化对其性质产生显著影响。等电点的溶解度、OAC、WAC、FC和FS最小。微藻的功能特性主要与它们的理化特性有关。因此,利用适宜条件提取微拟球藻蛋白可以用于食品工业,并有可能取代许多合成产品（3）形成钙螯合物的最佳条件:料液比9:1,螯合时间15min,螯合p H 9,温度40℃,功率1000W,此条件下钙螯合率为61.89±0.121%,钙螯合活性为9.08±0.151%,钙螯合物得率为65.57±0.190%。（4）通过Ca螯合物在不同浓度的PBS缓冲液、加热温度、p H水平和体外模拟消化稳定性分析表明,螯合物稳定性较好。经胃液模拟消化30分钟,Ca肽的保留率为81.93±0.00761%,胰蛋白酶消化进一步降低了钙离子保留率。钙螯合肽在p H高于6时均较稳定。Ca螯合肽的稳定性受温度影响较小,在磷酸盐缓冲液浓度较低（10mmol/L）时,螯合物稳定。（5）FTIR光谱显示了螯合物的存在,紫外光谱扫描、荧光光谱、ζ电位、粒度分布和氨基酸分析不仅证实了螯合物的产生,并且不同的光谱分析和检测信号还表明金属离子与微藻肽中的氨基、羧基和其他活性螯合基团形成金属螯合物。（6）SEm和AFm图像显示了螯合肽的致密结构。分析结果表明,微藻多肽-金属离子螯合物应该是通过螯合产生的新物质。
