Reusable and durable electrostatic air filter based on hybrid metallized microfibers decorated with metal–organic–framework nanocrystals

As global air pollution becomes increasingly severe,various types of fibrous filters have been developed to improve air filter ***,fibrous filters have limitations such as high packing density that generally causes high-pressure drop and ultimately deterioration in the filtration ***-pressure particulate matter precipitators are limited in terms of scope for commercialization because they require high voltage supplies and ozone *** this study,we develop fibrous filters with enhanced durability and improved performance using metallized microfibers decorated with metal-organic-framework(mOF)*** only does the efficiency of the developed filters remain at or above 97%for 0.50-1.5μm Pms but the durability also significantly *** addition,using the water purification ability of the mOF,we explore the dye degradation effect of the hybrid microfibers by immersing them into Rhodamine B aqueous *** such an experiment the Rhodamine B aqueous solution is completely purified by the presence of the hybrid microfibers under the UV irradiation.

Comparison of the meibomian gland dysfunction in patients with chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease and Sjogren's syndrome

AIm: To investigate the abnormalities in the meibomian gland in patients with dry eye disease(DED) associated with chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease(coGVHD) in comparison with Sj?gren's syndrome(SS), a major form of aqueous deficient DED and meibomian gland dysfunction(mGD), a common cause of evaporative ***: A total 135 eyes of 135 subjects included in this study: patients with DED associated with coGVHD(n=30), patients with SS(n=35), patients with mGD(n=35), and normal controls(n=35). All participants completed the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI) questionnaire, ocular surface examination [Schirmer test, tear film breakup time(TFBUT), and ocular surface staining], and meibomian gland assessment [meiboscore(gland dropout detected on meibography using infrared camera of the Keratograph 5 m), meibum expressibility score(mES), meibum quality score(mQS), lid margin abnormality]. In addition, correlations of meibomian gland characteristics with ocular surface parameters as well as disease severity score were investigated in coGVHD ***: The coGVHD group showed significantly higher meiboscore, mES, and mQS than the other 3 groups(all Pmeters of meibomian gland showed a significant correlation each other and those of ocular surface. The correlation between meibomian gland parameters and severity score of co GVHD was also established(meiboscore, r=0.62; mES, r=0.47; mQS, r=0.47; lid margin abnormality score, r=0.55; all Pmorphology and worse glandfunction than other types of DED. In addition, meibomian gland damage is not only associated with ocular surface damage but also disease severity of coGVHD.

Development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is very complex and occurs through a multistep biological process of malignant transformation of normal hepatocytes in which various factors, including genetic and epigenetic alterations, regulation of oxidative stress, inflammation, and immunity are involved. To date, numerous studies have described the molecular pathogenesis of HCC, but the precise molecular mechanisms of HCC development remain unclear. Emerging single-cell transcriptome analysis technology is a powerful tool for defining sub-populations within heterogeneous bulk tumor tissue and allows molecular characterization of each cell. This breakthrough method can unveil the molecular mechanisms of HCC. In this article, I discuss recent advances in the molecular pathogenesis of HCC through this newly emerging concept of single-cell analysis.

Highly immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment containing various protumoral immune cells accelerates malignant transformation and treatment *** particular,tumor-associated macrophages(TAms),as the predominant infiltrated immune cells in a tumor,play a pivotal role in regulating the immunosuppressive tumor *** a potential therapeutic strategy to counteract TAms,here we explore an exosome-guided in situ direct reprogramming of tumor-supportive m2-polarized TAms into tumor-attacking m1-type *** derived from m1-type macrophages(m1-Exo)promote a phenotypic switch from anti-inflammatory m2-like TAms toward pro-inflammatory m1-type macrophages with high conversion *** m1 macrophages possessing protein-expression profiles similar to those of classically activated m1 macrophages display significantly increased phagocytic function and robust cross-presentation ability,potentiating antitumor immunity surrounding the ***,these m1-Exo also lead to the conversion of human patient-derived TAms into m1-like macrophages that highly express mHC class II,offering the clinical potential of autologous and allogeneic exosome-guided direct TAm reprogramming for arming macrophages to join the fight against cancer.

The development of urbanization and industrialization leads to rapid depletion of fossil ***,the production of fuel from renewable resources is highly *** energy conversion and storage is a benign technique with reliable output and is *** an exceptional electrochemical catalyst with tunable properties like a huge specific surface area,porous channels,and abundant active sites is critical ***,metal-organic frameworks(mOFs)and two-dimensional(2D)transition-metal carbides/nitrides(mXenes)have been extensively investigated in the field of electrochemical energy conversion and ***,advances in the research on mOFs are hampered by their limited structural stability and conventionally low electrical conductivity,whereas the practical electrochemical performance of mXenes is impeded by their low porosity,inadequate redox sites,and ***,researchers have been designing mOF/mXene nanoarchitectures to overcome the limitations in electrochemical energy conversion and *** review explores the recent advances in mOF/mXene nanoarchitectures design strategies,tailoring their properties based on the morphologies(0D,1D,2D,and 3D),and broadening their future opportunities in electrochemical energy storage(batteries,supercapacitors)and catalytic energy conversion(HER,OER,and ORR).The intercalation of mOF in between the mXene layers in the nanoarchitectures functions synergistically to address the issues associated with bare mXene and mOF in the electrochemical energy storage and *** review gives a clear emphasis on the general aspects of mOF/mXene nanoarchitectures,and the future research perspectives,challenges of mOF/mXene design strategies and electrochemical applications are highlighted.

We demonstrate a new type of multifocal and extended depth of focus(EDOF)intraocular lenses(IOLs)embeddingμm-thin geometric phase(GP)lens *** an emerging approach for lens phase design,the GP modulated IOLs outperform conventional diffractive IOLs in multifocality while completely avoiding the clinically undesirable demand for additional surface patterns to standard monofocal IOL *** number of foci and light splitting ratio of the GP IOLs are adjusted by changing the number of stacked GP layers and the thickness of each *** and trifocal GP IOLs are fabricated by radial alignment of anisotropic orientation in UV-curable liquid crystal *** characterizing the defocus image and modulation transfer function of the GP IOLs,it is expected that GP IOLs will alleviate the most common problems associated with multifocal and EDOF IOLs,blurred vision and photic phenomena caused by light scattering and posterior capsule opacification.

A systematic correlation between morphology of porous carbon cathode and electrolyte in lithium-sulfur battery

Porous carbon has been applied for lithium-sulfur battery cathodes,and carbonized metal-organic framework(mOF)is advantageous in tuning the ***,we have systematically synthesized water-distorted mOF(WDm)derived porous carbon via controlling the proportion of both water in a mixed solvent(dimethylformamide and water)and ligand in mOF-5 precursors(metal and ligand),which is categorized by its morphology(*** stone(closed),Tassel(open)and Intermediate(semi-open)).For example,decrease in water and increase in ligand content induce Cracked stone WDms which showed the highest specific surface area(2742-2990 m^(2)/g)and pore volume(2.81-3.28 cm^(3)/g)after *** effect of carbonized WDms(CWDms)on battery performance was examined by introducing electrolytes with different sulfur reduction mechanisms(***/DmE and ACN_(2) LiTFSITTE):Closed framework effectively confines polysulfide,whereas open framework enhances electrolyte *** initial capacities of the batteries were in the following order:Cracked stone>Intermediate>Tassel for DOL/DmE and Intermediate>Tassel>Cracked stone for ACN_(2) *** note,Intermediate CWDm exhibited the highest initial capacity and retained capacity after 100 cycles(1398 and 747 mAh/g)in ACN_(2) LiTFSI-TTE electrolyte having advantages from both open and closed *** sum,we could correlate cathode morphology(openness and pore structure)and electrolyte type(*** solubility)with lithium-sulfur battery performance.

Thermal energy harvesting circuit with maximum power point tracking control for self-powered sensor node applications

We present a simple implementation of a thermal energy harvesting circuit with the maximum power point tracking（mPPT） control for self-powered miniature-sized sensor nodes. Complex start-up circuitry and direct current to direct current（DC-DC） boost converters are not required, because the output voltage of targeted thermoelectric generator（TEG） devices is high enough to drive the load applications directly. The circuit operates in the active/asleep mode to overcome the power mismatch between TEG devices and load applications. The proposed circuit was implemented using a 0.35-μm complementary metal-oxide semiconductor（CmOS） process. Experimental results confirmed correct circuit operation and demonstrated the performance of the mPPT scheme. The circuit achieved a peak power efficiency of 95.5% and an mPPT accuracy of higher than 99%.

Risk of pancreatic adverse events associated with the use of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor drugs: A systematic review and metaanalysis of randomized trials

AIm: To systematically assess risk of pancreatic adverse events with glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) receptor agonist and dipeptidyl peptidase-4(DPP-4) inhibitor ***: We searched Pub med, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane review of clinical trials, pharmaceutical company clinical trials register, United States Food and Drug Administration website, European medicines Agency website and Clinical *** for randomized controlled trials from inception to October 2013. Randomized control trial studies were selected for inclusion if they reported on pancreatic complication events and/or changes in pancreatic enzyme levels(serum amylase and serum lipase) as adverse events or as serious adverse events for patients who were on GLP-1 receptor agonist and DPP-4 inhibitor drugs. Two independent reviewers extracted data directly. We performed Peto odds ratio(OR) fixed effect meta-analysis of pancreatic adverse events a, and assessed heterogeneity with the I^2 ***: Sixty-eight randomized controlled trials were eligible. A total of 60720 patients were included in our analysis of the association of risk of pancreatic complication events with GLP-1 agents. A total of 89 pancreatic related adverse events occurred among the GLP-1 agents compared to 74 events among the controls. There was a statistically significant increased risk of elevation of pancreatic enzymes associated with GLP-1 agents compared with control(Peto OR = 3.15, 95%CI: 1.56-6.39, P = 0.001, I2 = 0%). There was no statistically significant difference in the risk of pancreatic adverse event associated with GLP-1 agent compared with controls(Peto OR = 1.00, 95%CI: 0.73-1.37, P = 1.00, I2 = 0%). There were a total of 71 pancreatitis events in patients on GLP-1 agents and 56 pancreatitis events occurred in the control patients. There were 36 reports of pancreatic cancer in these studies.
