Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in western countries. Approximately one-quarter of newly diagnosed patients for CRC have metastases, and a further 40%-50% experience disease recurrence or develop metastases after all standard therapies. Therefore, understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in the progression of CRC and subsequently developing novel therapeutic targets is crucial to improve management of CRC and patients' long-term survival. Several tyrosine kinase receptors have been implicated in CRC development, progression and metastasis, including epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) and vascular EGFR. Recently, tropomyosin-related kinase B(Trk B), a tyrosine kinase receptor, has been reported in CRC and found to clearly exert several biological and clinical features, such as tumor cell growth and survival in vitro and in vivo, metastasis formation and poor prognosis. Here we review the significance of Trk B and its ligand brain derived-neurotrophic factor in CRC. We focus on their expression in CRC tumor samples, and their functional roles in CRC cell lines and in in vivo models. Finally we discuss therapeutic approaches that can lead to the development of novel therapeutic agents for treating Trk B-expressing CRC tumors.

Solar energy applications could be the best alternative to the conventional fuels for the purposes of domestic,water and space heating and some industries in the sunny,arid,and hot *** the present study,the performance of an evacuated tube solar heater for water heating for months of February and march was experimentally *** was performed in a hot and arid area(Nasiriya City,South of Iraq).A solar heater with ten evacuated tube solar collectors with a capacity of 100 liter was used in the *** evacuated tube had a length of 1.8m with an outside diameter of 8 *** was observed that for the two selected months,water temperature of the solar heater reached a maximum more than 70°C during sunny days with no heat extraction from the tank of the solar ***,heat was extracted from the solar collector with four different flowrates 0.5,0.75,1,and 1.25 l/min,*** results showed that temperature of the solar heater behaved differently from the static *** the heat extraction begun,there was a gradual and noticeable decrease in the water temperature of the *** observed decrease was slight with the lowest flowrate(0.25 l/m)and becomes sharp with the highest flowrate(1.25 l/min).However,water temperature of the solar heater remained higher than 40°C for the investigated flowrates except the case of 1.25 l/*** results showed that evacuated tube solar heater can work efficiently in arid and hot areas in winter and spring seasons when the conditions of solar radiation are suitable.

The effects of dietary inclusion of sugar syrup on quality of egg,cholesterol level,production performance,serum total protein and blood biochemical parameters were evaluated in laying hens.A total of300 commercial Lohmann LSL hens(30 weeks of age) were randomly distributed into 3 dietary treatments which consisted of a normal corn diet containing cornesoy and 2 diets containing 5% and 10%sugar *** treatment was replicated 5 times(n=20).Egg production,feed intake,body weight and egg weight of laying hens fed different diets were *** experiment lasted for 20 *** Haugh unit scores of hens fed diets with sugar syrup were significantly increased(P mpared with the control *** sugar syrup had no significant effect on liver enzymes,total protein,blood glucose and creatinine in all *** eggs laid by hens fed sugar syrup diets had lower cholesterol level(P mpared with those laid by hens fed the control *** analysis showed that comparable electrophoretic patterns were noticed between serum proteins of treatment *** the results,it can be concluded that sugar syrup diets and corn diets have similar effects on feed intake,body weight,production of eggs and blood biochemical parameters in layer hens,which suggests sugar syrup can be used as an energy source for replacing part of corn in poultry layer diets.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the anti-neuroinflammatory properties of Panax ginseng(***)root by measuring the levels of nitric oxide(NO),tumour necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6),and interleukin-10(IL-10)in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated BV2 microglia ***:maximal non-toxic dose(mNTD)of methanol extract of *** root culture on BV2 microglia cells was first determined via 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay,followed by treatment and LPS stimulation of cells,and the measurement of NO using Griess assay and TNF-α,IL-6,and IL-10 using ELISA ***:The mNTD of *** root extract was determined to be(587±57)µg/*** that,NO and IL-6 levels were found to be insignificantly reduced by 6.88%and 0.14%respectively in stimulated cells upon treatment with *** with½mNTD yielded similar insignificant result,with only a reduction of 3.58%and 0.08%in NO and IL-6 levels ***,TNF-αand IL-10 levels were significantly downregulated by 15.64%and 34.96%respectively upon treatment with *** root extract at ***:methanol extract of *** root culture did not show any significant anti-inflammatory effects on NO and IL-6 levels,but might potentially possess both anti-neuroinflammatory and pro-neuroinflammatory properties through the downregulation of TNF-αand IL-10 respectively.

Power maximization and Control of Variable-Speed Wind Turbine System Using Extremum Seeking

maximizing the power capture is an important issue to the turbines that are installed in low wind speed area. In this paper, we focused on the modeling and control of variable speed wind turbine that is composed of two-mass drive train, a Squirrel Cage Induction Generator (SCIG), and voltage source converter control by Space Vector Pulse Width modulation (SPVWm). To achieve maximum Power Point Tracking (mPPT), the reference speed to the generator is searched via Extremum Seeking Control (ESC). ESC was designed for wind turbine region II operation based on dither-modulation scheme. ESC is a model-free method that has the ability to increase the captured power in real time under turbulent wind without any requirement for wind measurements. The controller is designed in two loops. In the outer loop, ESC is used to set a desired reference speed to PI controller to regulate the speed of the generator and extract the maximum electrical power. The inner control loop is based on Indirect Field Orientation Control (IFOC) to decouple the currents. Finally, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is used to obtain the optimal PI parameters. Simulation and control of the system have been accomplished using mATLAB/Simulink 2014.
