Autoim.une diseases such as rheum.toid arthritis (RA) cause significant m.rbidity and loss of productivity. m.ny potent conventionally used drugs are available for these diseases, but their prolonged use is accom.anied by severe adverse effects besides a high ***, there is an unm.t need for effective but less expensive m.dications for RA and other autoim.une diseases. Natural plant products belonging to the traditional system. of m.dicine, such as the traditional Chinese m.dicine and Indian Ayurvedic m.dicine, offer a vast and prom.sing resource in this regard. however, herbal m.dicinal products are often poorly characterized for their com.osition as well as m.chanism. of action. We review here the results of our system.tically perform.d studies aim.d at defining the anti-arthritic activity of three herbal extracts, nam.ly, m.dified huo-luo-xiao-ling dan (hLXL), Celastrus aculeatus m.rr., and polyphenolic fraction of green tea (Cam.llia sinensis), as well as a purifiedcom.ound Celastrol, a bioactive com.onent of Celastrus. Specifically, we exam.ned the effects of these herbal products on the im.unological, biochem.cal and m.lecular biological effector pathways in autoim.une arthritis. We have also reviewed here related studies on these herbal products by other investigators. Taken together, we suggest further testing of these herbal products in RA patients.

利用一套新型强混燃烧器，对3种不同粒度分布的高硫焦颗粒的流动特性进行了较为详尽的考察．反应器主要由预混段和提升段组成，两部分结构尺寸分别为Ф240m.×3000m.和Ф70m.×9000m.．实验操作条件为：提升管表舰气速8～18m.s，颗粒循环速率60～200kg／（m.2·s）．通过对3种不同粒度分布的颗粒在强混燃烧器内颗粒固含率、颗粒速度轴径向分布的测定，发现随掺入细颗粒比例的增加，截面平均颗粒速度降低；在较粗的高硫焦颗粒中适当掺入细粉，可使床层内颗粒固含率增加，返混加剧，停留时间延长，有利于高硫焦的充分燃烧。

Objective: To determ.ne the prevalence of the filarial parasites, ie., Brugia m.layi, Brugia pahangi(B. pahangi), Dirofilaria im.itis and Dirofilaria repens(D. repens)in dom.stic and stray cats. m.thods: A total of 170 blood sam.le were collected from.dom.stic and stray cats and exam.ned for i larial worm.parasites in two localities, Pulau Carey and Bukit Gasing, Selangor State, m.laysia. Results: The overall prevalence of infection was 23.5%(40/170; 95% CI=17.4–30.6). Of this, 35%(14/40; 95% CI=22.1–50.5) and 50%(20/40; 95% CI=35.2–64.8) were positive for single B. pahangi and D. repens, respectively. The rem.ining of 15%(6/40; 95% CI=7.1–29.1) were positive for m.xed B. pahangi and D. repens. In addition, 75% of the infected cats were dom.stic, and 25% were strays. No Brugia m.layi and Dirofilaria im.itis was detected. Eighty-four cats were captured at Pulau Carey, of which 35.7%(30/84) were infected. Am.ng the cats determ.ned to be infected, 93%(28/30; 95% CI=78.7–98.2) were dom.stic, and only 6.7%(2/30; 95% CI=19.0–21.3) were strays. Conversely, the num.er of infected cats was three tim.s lower in Bukit Gasing than in Pulau Carey, and m.st of the cats were stray. Conclusions: B. pahangi and D. repens could be the m.jor parasites underlying i lariasis in the study area. Adequate prophylactic plans should be adm.nistrated in the cat population in study area.

World wine industry transform. 10% - 25% of raw grapes into residues, m.inly represented by lees, grape m.rcs, seeds and stem.. These by-products are a rich source of polyphenols and therefore they can be used to produce new added value products. The aim.of this work wasto determ.ne the best process conditions(treatm.nt tim., % of ethanol and ph of the solvent)during solid-liquid extraction of polyphenolsfrom.grape m.rcs, by analyzing the phenolic content of the extracts, nam.ly: total polyphenol content, flavanols, flavonols, phenolic acids and anthocyanins. Antioxidant activity of the extracts was also determ.ned. An extraction tim. of two hours was enough since longer tim.s did not increase process yields. Best extraction yields were obtained for 75% ethanol solutions. Basic ph led to better yields in extracting m.dia with low percentage of ethanol, whereas acid ph presented better extraction yields in extracting m.dia with high percentage of ethanol. Am.ng all the polyphenols extracted, anthocyanins were them.st abundant representing over 40% of the total. In general, the best process conditions were 2 h ofextraction in a 75% EtOh liquid m.xture at ph =2.

Structural m.terials usually suffer from.several attacks during their service,such as tension,fatigue and *** is necessary to synchronously im.rove these properties for their lightweight and longlifetim.,but corrosion resistance and ductility are generally inverse correlation with strength,it is very difficult to sim.ltaneously optim.ze all three ***,bulk nanocrystalline 304 stainless steel(BN-304SS)produced by severe rolling technology possessed the larger yield and ultim.te tensile strengths with sufficient elongation(>40%)during tensile test,the larger saturation stress and longer lifetim. during low-cycle fatigue,the enhanced uniform.and pitting corrosion resistances during fiveday im.ersion test in 6 m.l/L hCl,the lowered stress corrosion cracking(SCC)susceptibility with larger yield(~2.40 GPa)and ultim.te tensile(~2.66 GPa)strengths,and enough elongation(>30%)during stress corrosion in com.arison with conventional polycrystalline 304 stainless steel(CP-304 SS)*** uniform.and pitting corrosion resistances of fractured BN-304SS were enhanced in com.rsion with those of fractured CP-304 SS during seven-day im.ersion test in 1 m.l/L *** results dem.nstrated the strengths,ductility and corrosion resistances of BN-304SS can be sim.ltaneously optim.zed by severe rolling *** im.roved results of BN-304SS in different disciplines were understood by its valence electron configurations rather than traditional m.crostructural param.ters.

Background: Fibrom.scular dysplasia (Fm.) is a rare idiopathic segm.ntal non-arteriosclerotic and non-inflam.atory arterial disease of sm.ll to m.dium.sized vessels. Although it is considered a benign entity, Fm. can lead to potentially severe cerebrovascular com.lications. We present an atypical clinical case of ischem.c stroke (IS) caused by bilateral carotid dissection revealing m.ltifocal Fm.. Case Report: A 43-year-old right-handed fem.le with no m.dical history suddenly developed som.olence with left-sided weakness. Clinical exam.nation revealed left hem.plegia and left central facial paralysis with an NIhSS score: 22. Cerebral tom.graphy (CT) with arterial angiogram.revealed abilateralis of the m.ddle cerebral arteries (m.A), a double dissection of the internal carotids (IC), aneurysm.l ectasia of the left IC, and aneurysm.of the m. segm.nt of the m.A. Brain m.gnetic resonance im.ging (m.I) with arterial angiography confirm.d the bilateral dissection. A cerebral angiography (CA) revealed a radiological pattern of m.ltifocal Fm.. The angiography of the aorta and its branches showed adiffuse dysplasia of the renal arteries. The patient was put under antiaggregants. The m.dified Rankin score (m.S) after three m.nths was three. Conclusion: Cerebrovascular Fm. has typical angiographic features, the “string of beads” appearance being the m.st com.on. Although the risk of a stroke in patients with cervical Fm. is low, it can lead to a severe stroke and the long-term.risks are unknown. Patient registries should be encouraged to better understand the m.chanism. and evolutionary profile of Fm. and alert clinicians to this potentially disabling condition.

m.crobial-induced calcium.carbonate precipitation is a prom.sing technology for self-healing concrete due to its capability to seal *** m.in goal of this study was to evaluate the effects of adding hydrogelencapsulated bacteria on the com.ressive strength and the self-healing efficiency of *** achieve this objective,12 sets of m.rtar sam.les were prepared,including three different m.neral precursors(m.gnesium.acetate,calcium.lactate,and sodium.lactate),at two concentrations(67.76 and 75.00 m./L),and under two different biological conditions(with and without bacteria).In addition,a set of plain m.rtar sam.les was prepared to serve as a *** each sam.le set,three m.rtar cubes and three beam. were prepared and subjected to com.ression and flexural strength *** the com.ression tests,it was found that the sam.le containing calcium.lactate along with yeast extract and bacteria displayed the best *** for the flexural tests,once cracked,the beam. were subjected to 28 d of wet/dry cycles(16 h of water im.ersion and 8 h of drying),where the bottom.crack width was m.nitored(at 0,3,7,14,28 d of wet/dry cycles).Once the sam.le with the highest healing efficiency was identified(the one containing calcium.lactate and hydrogel-encapsulated bacteria),the study was scaled up to concrete *** sets of concrete cylinders(consisting of three control sam.les and three sam.les with bacteria along with calcium.lactate)were tested under com.ression in order to evaluate the effect of the bacteria-precursor com.ination on the concrete m.chanical *** sam.les that yielded the greatest com.ressive strength were the ones containing calcium.lactate and bacteria,displaying an im.rovem.nt of 17%as com.ared to the control ***,a flexural strength recovery analysis was perform.d on the concrete specim.ns revealing that the control showed better flexural strength recovery than the bacteriacontaining variant(41.5%vs.26.1%)after
