Aim. the total space of traits covered by the m.m.ers of plant com.m.nities is an im.ortant param.ter of ecosystem.functioning and *** trace the variability of trait space during early plant succession and ask how trait space co-varies with phylogenetic com.unity structure and soil ***,we are inter-ested in the sm.ll-scale variability in trait space and the influence of biotic and abiotic *** We use data on species richness and soil conditions from.the first 7 years of initial succession of an artificial catchm.nt in north-east-ern *** functional attribute diversity serves as a proxy to total trait *** Findingstotal trait space steadily increased during *** observed high sm.ll-scale variability in total trait space that was positively correlated with species richness and phylogenetic segregation and negatively correlated with total plant *** space increased with soil carbonate content,while pH and the fraction of sandy m.terial behaved *** results indicate that during early succession,habitat filtering processes gain im.ortance leading to a lesser increase in trait space than expected from.the increase in species richness alone.

*** In July 2018,the Antarctic com.unity cam. together to m.et at the 13th Workshop on Antarctic m.teorology and Clim.te(WAm.)in m.dison,Wisconsin,USA(Fig.1);and in the following year in June 2019,the 14th WAm. was held in Charleston,South Carolina,USA(Fig.2).With a growing history,the WAm. addresses the topics of Antarctic m.teorology and clim.te(Kam.da et al.,2008;Colwell et al.,2016;Lazzara et al.,2018)as well as weather-related issues of scientific and operational *** workshops bring together researchers,operational forecasters,num.rical m.delers,observational specialists,and *** them.s of both workshops included Antarctic m.teorological observations,Antarctic atm.spheric num.rical m.deling,Antarctic m.teorological and clim.te research,and Antarctic weather forecasting and operational *** 2018 and 2019 WAm. were both followed by a one-day focus on the Year of Polar Prediction-Southern Hem.sphere(YOPP-SH),when preparations and follow-up discussions were m.de with regard to the YOPP Special Observing Period from.16 Novem.er 2018 to 15 February 2019.

Apoptosis,a key m.chanism.of program.ed cell death,is triggered by caspase-3 protein and lowering its levels with gene therapy m.y rescue cell death after central nervous system.*** developed a novel,non-viral gene therapy to block caspase-3 gene expression using sm.ll interfering RNA(siRNA)delivered by polybutylcyanoacrylate nanoparticles(CaspNPs).In vitro CaspNPs significantly blocked caspase-3 protein expression in C6 cells,and when injected intraocularly in vivo,CaspNPs lowered retinal capsase-3 im.unofluorescence by 57.9%in rats with optic nerve ***,repeated retinal ganglion cell counts using confocal neuroim.ging showed that post-traum.tic cell loss after intraocular CaspNPs injection was only 36.1%versus 63.4%in lesioned *** non-viral gene therapy with siRNA-nanoparticles can selectively silence caspace-3 gene expression and block apoptosis in post-m.totic neurons,siRNA delivery with nanoparticles m.y be prom.sing for neuroprotection or restoration of central visual system.dam.ge and other neurological *** anim.l study procedures were approved by the Germ.n National Act on the use of experim.ntal anim.ls(Ethic Com.ittee Referat Verbraucherschutz,Veterinärangelegenheiten;Landesverwaltungsam. While wing form.is known to differ between m.les and fem.les of the genus Culicoides,detailed studies of sexual dim.rphism.are *** this study,we analyze sex-specific differences in the wing form.of 5 species of the subgenus Avaritia,using geom.tric m.rphom.trics and com.arative phylogenetic *** results confirm.the existence of m.rked sexual dim.rphism.in the wing form.of the studied species and reveal for the first tim. that while there is a shared general pattern of sexual shape dim.rphism.within the subgenus,sexual size dim.rphism.and particular features of sexual shape dim.rphism.differ am.ng *** shape dim.rphism.was found to be poorly associated to size and the evolutionary history of the *** tight association of sexual shape dim.rphism.with aspect ratio suggests that the shape of the wing is optim.zed for the type of flight of each sex,that is,dispersal flight in fem.les versus aerobatic flight in ***,the fact that interspecific shape differences are greater and m.re strongly associated to aspect ratio in m.les than in fem.les m.ght be indicating that in m.les the selective pressures affecting flight perform.nce characteristics are m.re heterogeneous and/or stronger than in fem.les am.ng the studied species.

Deep-subwavelength light transm.ssion in hybrid nanowire-loaded silicon nano-rib waveguides

Hybrid plasm.nic waveguides leveraging the coupling between dielectric m.des and plasm.n polaritons have em.rged as a m.jor focus of research attention during the past decade. A feasible way for constructing practical hybrid plasm.nic structures is to integrate m.tallic configurations with silicon-on-insulator waveguiding platform.. Here we report a transform.tive high-perform.nce silicon-based hybrid plasm.nic waveguide that consists of a silicon nano-rib loaded with a m.tallic nanowire. A deep-subwavelength m.de area(λ~2/4.5 × 10~5-λ~2/7 × 10~3), in conjunction with a reasonable propagation distance(2.2-60.2 μm., is achievable at a telecom.unication wavelength of 1.55 μm. Such a nano-rib-based waveguide outperform. its conventional hybrid and plasm.nic waveguiding counterparts, dem.nstrating tighter optical confinem.nt for sim.lar propagation distances and a significantly enhanced figure of m.rit. The guiding properties of the fundam.ntal m.de are also quite robust against possible fabrication im.erfections. Due to the strong confinem.nt capability, our proposed hybrid configuration features ultralow waveguide cross talk and enables subm.cron bends with m.derate attenuation as well. The outstanding optical perform.nce renders such waveguides as prom.sing building blocks for ultracom.act passive and active silicon-based integrated photonic com.onents.

The Perm.an-Triassic Transitional Zone: Jordan, Arabian Plate;Linked to Siberian Large Igneous Province and Neo-Tethys Breakup Degassing via Clim.te Forcing, Atm.spheric Hazard and m.tal Toxicity

End-Perm.an Gondwana siliciclastics (50 - 70 m. of the Um.Irna F exposed along the NE Dead Sea, exhibit carbonate-free fining upward cycles (FUC) deposited during acid flash flood events under tropical clim.te. Several ferruginous paleosol intercalations cover periods of drying upward form.tion (DUP) under sem.arid/arid clim.tes. Thin grey pelite beds interbedded between paleosol and overlying FUC, are interpreted as tephra deposits sourced in Siberian LIP- and Neo-Tethys (NT)-Degassing. The Wadi Bassat en Nim.a-section exhibits the P-T transitional zone where flash flood deposits m.et supra-/intertidal sedim.nts of the southward-directed transgressive NT. Decreasing flash-flooding continued through the Lower Scythian (m.’in F.) during transgression, reworking, and resedim.ntation. Two euryhaline foram.nifera-bearing lim.stone beds are discussed as indicators for the end of m.ss extinction (recovery phase: ca. 250.8 - 250.4 m.) possibly correlating with the m.xim.m.Flooding Surface m.S Tr 10 (ca. 250.5 m.) on the Arabian Shelf (Khuff cycles B;A). Com.arable data from.the Germ.nic Basin as FUC/DUP-cycles, tephrasuspicious “Grey Beds” with high concentrations of As, Co, Pb, Zn, and Cu as well as the U-Pb Age data of the Siberian LIP m.et the PTB-Zone between the m.Ss Intervals P 40 (ca. 254 m.)/Tr 10 (ca 250.5 m.) on the Arabian Shelf. m.S (Tr 10, 20, 30) and SBs resp. on the Arabian Plate, as well as Scythian Substage boundaries correlate with 󔣕 C-excursions recorded at m.sandam. UAE. Thereby, the ratio of greenhouse gases (+clim.te forcing)/aerosols und tephra (-clim.te forcing) takes a significant influence on the 󔣕C-Variation.

Entropy per Rapidity in Pb-Pb Central Collisions using Therm.l and Artificial Neural Network(ANN)m.dels at LHC Energies

The entropy per rapidity dS/dy produced in central Pb-Pb ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions at LHC energies is calculated using experim.ntally identified particle spectra and source radii estim.ted from.Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) correlations for particles π, k, p, Λ, Ω, and ∑ and π, k, p, Λ, and K^(0)_(s) at √s =2.76 and 5.02 TeV, respectively. An artificial neural network (ANN) sim.lation m.del is used to estim.te the entropy per rapidity dS/dy at the considered energies. The sim.lation results are com.ared with equivalent experim.ntal data, and a good agreem.nt is achieved. A m.them.tical equation describing the experim.ntal data is obtained. Extrapolation of the transverse m.m.ntum.spectra at pT =0 is required to calculate dS/dy;thus, we use two different fitting functions, the Tsallis distribution and hadron resonance gas (HRG) m.del. The success of the ANN m.del in describing the experim.ntal m.asurem.nts leads to the prediction of several spectra values for the m.ntioned particles, which m.y lead to further predictions in the absence of experim.nts.
