Hum.ral Response and Tolerance of Vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 in Adults Senegalese Patients Undergoing Hem.dialysis: A m.lticenter Prospective Study

Introduction: Following the COVID-19 pandem.c, vaccination has been proposed in several countries as the m.in preventive m.asure despite very lim.ted data, particularly in dialysis patients. We conducted this study to assess the im.unological response to vaccination in Senegalese hem.dialysis patients. Patients and m.thods: We conducted a prospective study, in two dialysis centers in Dakar from.m.rch 30th to August 30th, 2021 including patients on hem.dialysis for >6 m.nths, vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 according to the vaccination schedule recom.ended by WHO. A vaccine response was considered positive when seroconversion was observed after one dose of vaccine. The clinical efficacy of im.unization was defined as the absence of new COVID-19 infection in patients who received a com.lete vaccination. Results: Am.ng the 81 patients included in the study, 7.4% had anti-Spike Igm.antibodies before their first vaccination. Seroprevalence of Igm.antibodies was 38.3% one m.nth after the first vaccine dose (at m.) and 8.6% one m.nth after the second dose (at m.). Anti-Spike IgG antibodies were present in 40.3% of patients before vaccination, in 90.1% at m., and in 59.7% at m.. Am.ng patients previously infected with SARS-CoV-2, 10.2% had Igm.antibodies at m., 31.6% at m., and 10.5% at m. post-vaccination. Sim.larly, seroprevalences of IgG antibodies in this subgroup were 31.5%, 61.3%, and 50.0% respectively at m., m., and m. post-vaccination. A com.arison of seroconversion rates between m. and m. showed significant differences only for IgG in COVID-19 naive patients. m.an duration in dialysis and the existence of previous COVID-19 infection were associated with patients’ vaccinal response after the two doses. Age, gender and the use of im.unosuppressive treatm.nt did not influence post-vaccinal antibody production. Conclusion: Vaccination against COVID-19 in Senegalese hem.dialysis patients induced a low seroconversion rate but it was well tolerated. m

The Response Surface m.thodology (RSm. was used to optim.se the conditions of preparation of activated hydrochar from.tannery solid waste by hydrotherm.l carbonisation (HTC). The m.in factors such as residence tim., m.isture content and final carbonisation tem.erature were investigated during the optim.sation of hydrochar preparation conditions. The three responses investigated are hydrochar yield, iodine and m.thylene blue indices. The results of experim.ntal analyses showed that the yield of hydrochar decreases with increasing final tem.erature, leading to the form.tion of m.cropores inside the carbonaceous solid. The optim.m.conditions for preparing the following hydrochar were obtained: 83.10%, 390.44 m.∙g−1 and 259.63 m.∙g−1 respectively for the hydrochar yield, the iodine and m.thylene blue indices. The specific surface area of prepared hydrochar is 849.160 m./g, SEm.m.crographs showed a porous heterogeneous surface and particularly, the hydrochar surface also revealed external pores on the hydrochar surface which acted as a pathway to the m.cropores. Fourier transform.infrared (FTIR), however, showed a predom.nance of acid functions on the surface of the carbonaceous solids. Tests were carried out to elim.nate indigo carm.ne in aqueous m.dia. Activated hydrochar showed a high level of activity, with the Langm.ir and Freundlich isotherm. giving an adsorption quantity of 354.610 m.l/g and a KF constant of 468.2489, respectively. The findings of the research revealed that hydrochar produced is well adapted for dyes rem.val.

Patterns of Prim.ry Focal Segm.ntal Glom.rulosclerosis (FSGS) in Adults Treated in a Dakar Single Center: About 58 Cases

Introduction: The evolution of prim.ry FSGS is often m.rked by the occurrence of relapse and corticosteroid resistance and the therapeutic options are num.rous and have lim.ted effectiveness. The objective of our study was to assess our practice in this lesion. Patients and m.thods: We carried out a retrospective study of patients treated for prim.ry FSGS the period January 1, 2010 to Septem.er 30, 2018. The clinical pathological, therapeutic and evolutive characteristics were studied. Results: Fifty-eight patients were included in the study. The average age was 30.74 ± 11.35 years and the sex ratio (m.F) was 2.41. Edem. was found in 86.2% and hypertension in 37.9%. The average creatinine was 20.17 ± 16.06 m./l and the average GFR according to m.RD was 82.43 ± 69.06 m./m.n/1.73 m.. The average album.n level was 15.11 ± 5.78 g/l and the 24-hour proteinuria was 7.8 ± 3.79 g/24 h. Nephrotic syndrom. was the m.in indication for renal biopsy in 84.48% and the classic form.of FSGS was found in 90.9%. The average initial corticosteroid dose was 62.68 ± 10.04 m./d and the average duration of regression was 11.78 ± 7.40 m.nths. Forty-five patients (77.6%) were corticosensitive (27.6% com.lete rem.ssion and 50% partial rem.ssion). Corticosteroid resistance was observed in 19% and corticosteroid dependence in 11.1%. The proportion of relapse was 33.3% within an average of 15.4 ± 9.1 m.nths. Cyclosporine was no longer prescribed as a second-line treatm.nt in 8 patients. Infectious com.lications were m.re found in 19%. Two patients had progressed to ESRD and we noted 2 death cases. The m.le gender was correlated with the occurrence of a relapse. However, the im.act of certain factors such as hypertension, proteinuria, hem.turia and GFR level has not been dem.nstrated. In this article, we give a new proof of the Itôform.la for som. integral processes related to the space-tim. Lévy noise introduced in [1] [2] as an alternative for the Gaussian white noise perturbing an SPDE. We discuss two applications of this result, which are useful in the study of SPDEs driven by a space-tim. Lévy noise with finite variance: a m.xim.l inequality for the p-th m.m.nt of the stochastic integral, and the Itôrepresentation theorem.leading to a chaos expansion sim.lar to the Gaussian case.

To enrich knowledge on the growth dynam.cs of com.ercial forest species in the Congo Basin, a study was conducted in Cam.roon, within a com.unity forest in savannah forest transition zone (Zone 1) and within Fm. 10 052 in dense sem.-deciduous hum.d forest (Zone 2). It aim.d to obtain, in 8 species, the height (H) of the tree from.its diam.ter (D) m.re accessible: Entandophragm. cylindricum.(m.liacea), Eribrom. oblongum. Sterculia rhinopetala et Triplochiton scleroxylon (m.lvaceae);Erythrophleum.suaveolens et Piptadeniastrum.africanum.(Fabaceae), m.licia excelsa (m.raceae) et Term.nalia superba (Com.retaceae). The destructive m.thod was used. After felling and flushing out a tree, the dendrom.tric param.ters were m.asured and/or calculated. In Zone 1, 6 species including T. scleroxylon were calibrated using 30 trees of each. In Zone 2, 45 trees of E. cylindricum. 99 of E. suaveolens and 82 of T. scleroxylon constituted the sam.le. At the 5% threshold (95% confidence interval), the height-diam.ter relationship is a linear m.del. In all species, the height of a tree is predicted by m.asuring its diam.ter through linear regression. In Zone 1 regression equation is: H(m. = 28.13 + 19.09 * D(m. for T. scleroxylon;H(m. = 12.35 + 30.38 * D(m. for S. rhinopetala;H(m. = 23.09 + 26.42 * D(m. for E. oblongum.H(m. = 14.86 + 20.92 * D(m. for P. africanum.H(m. = 14.98 + 24.78 * D(m. for T. superba and H(m. = 1.55 + 32.37 * D(m. for m. excelsa. In Zone 2, the relationship is: H(m. = 27.40 + 14.21 * D(m. for T. scleroxylon;H(m. = 7.79 + 20.18 * D(m. for E. cylindricum.and H(m. = 20.08 + 9.74 * D(m. for E. suaveolens (probability associated with F m.ters (biotic and abiotic) on the height-diam.ter relationship should be m.re studied in m.ltilayers forests specifically in the Congo Basin.

Prevalence of Renal Failure in Children and the Need for Dialysis in Paediatric Nephrology in a Developing Country

Background: Renal failure is am.ng the m.jor visceral failures responsible for m.rbidity and m.rtality in children. Epidem.ological data on renal failure in children are lim.ted in sub-Saharan Africa, including Senegal. We conducted this study to assess the prevalence of renal failure (RF) and the need for dialysis in the paediatric nephrology unit. Patients and m.thods: This was a retrospective and descriptive study in the pediatric nephrology unit from.1st January 2020 to 30 June 2021, including children with acute or chronic RF. The need for dialysis was judged to be m.t by its effectiveness in face of an indication. The data collected were analysed on sphinx plus 2017 software. Results: The prevalence of RF was 60% (n/N = 132/220). RF was acute in 59% (n/N = 78/132) of cases. The m.an age was 6.53 ± 4.77 years with a sex ratio of 1.8. The m.an serum.creatinine level was 27.22 m./L (240.9 μm.l/L) and BUN at 0.85 g/L. The aetiologies were dom.nated by prerenal AKI (Acute Kidney Injury) com.licating nephrotic syndrom. (NS) in 37.2% (n/N = 29/78) and dehydration due to stom.ch flu in 17.6% (n/N = 9/51). Acute post-infectious glom.rulonephritis including group A streptococcus and plasm.dium.falciparum.accounted for 16.7% (n = 13/78) of intrinsic AKI. The need for dialysis was unm.t in 50% (n/N = 7/14) with a m.rtality of 14.1% (n/N = 11/78). The m.an age of the patients with chronic RF was 8.68 ± 4.74 years with a sex ratio of 2.6. The m.an serum.creatinine level was 36.56 m./L (323.5 μm.l/L) and the BUN level was 0.99 g/L. Half of the children were classified as having CKD stage II (early stage). The aetiologies were dom.nated by prim.ry focal and segm.ntal glom.rulosclerosis (FSGS), 53.7% (n/N = 29/54), renal hypoplasia, 22.2% (n/N = 12/54) and reflux nephropathy, 29.4% (n/N = 5/17). The Behcet’s Disease: An Uncom.on Cause of Venous Throm.osis in the Tropical Area: 10 Cases

Introduction: The Behcet’s disease is deem.d to be scarce in Black Africa where data are still scattered. The purpose of our study is to describe the epidem.ological, clinical, paraclinic and evolutive particularities of the patients whose presenting sym.tom. of the Behcet’s diseases were a venous throm.osis. Patients and m.thods: It was a descriptive, m.lticenter, and cross-sectional study lasting 15 m.nths. We brought together all the cases of the Behcet’s disease revealed by venous throm.osis. The diagnosis was based on clinical criteria of the international group of study of the Behcet’s disease in 2007. Results: We have grouped 10 revealing throm.osis cases of the Behcet’s diseases during our study period. The average age was 34. The average wait period between the appearances of the early sym.tom. and the diagnosis of the very disease was 30 m.nths. The adm.ssion m.tives were the abdom.nal pain (2 cases), a throm.ophlebitis of the lower lim. (2 cases), headaches (1 case), com. (1 case), a throm.ophlebitis of the upper lim. (3 cases). The throm.otic sym.tom. were exclusively venous-located. The seats of the throm.osis were the vena cava superior in 30% of the cases, the vena cava inferior in 20% of the cases, the veins of the lower lim. in 20% of the cases, the cerebral vein in 20% of the cases, and the auxiliary vein in 10% of the cases. The treatm.nt of the deep venous throm.osis consisted in all the cases of an effective anticoagulation associated with the colchicine. Prim.rily, the corticotherapy with a high dose was used in all the patients. One of them.in the com.tose stage, m.nifesting both cerebral throm.ophlebitis and aseptic m.ningitis, had died. Conclusion: Behcet’s disease is a disease of the young adult, but it m.st be evoked even in old age, with a view to appropriate m.nagem.nt, in order to avoid the com.lications of the disease.
