Evaluation and Prediction of Groundwater Quality in the m.nicipality of Za-Kpota (South Benin) Using m.chine Learning and Rem.te Sensing

Accessing drinking water is a global issue. This study aim. to contribute to the assessm.nt of groundwater quality in the m.nicipality of Za-Kpota (southern Benin) using rem.te sensing and m.chine Learning. The m.thodological approach used consisted in linking groundwater physico-chem.cal param.ter data collected in the field and in the laboratory using AFNOR 1994 standardized m.thods to satellite data (Landsat) in order to sketch out a groundwater quality prediction m.del. The data was processed using QGis (Sem.-Autom.tic Plugin: SCP) and Python (Jupyter Netebook: Prediction) softwares. The results of water analysis from.the sam.led wells and boreholes indicated that m.st of the water is acidic (pH varying between 5.59 and 7.83). The water was m.derately m.neralized, with conductivity values of less than 1500 μs/cm.overall (59 µS/cm.to 1344 µS/cm., with high concentrations of nitrates and phosphates in places. The dynam.cs of groundwater quality in the m.nicipality of Za-Kpota between 2008 and 2022 are also m.rked by a regression in land use units (a regression in vegetation and m.rshland form.tion in favor of built-up areas, bare soil, crops and fallow land) revealed by the diachronic analysis of satellite im.ges from.2008, 2013, 2018 and 2022. Surveys of local residents revealed the use of herbicides and pesticides in agricultural fields, which are the m.in drivers contributing to the groundwater quality deterioration observed in the study area. Field surveys revealed the use of herbicides and pesticides in agricultural fields, which are factors contributing to the deterioration in groundwater quality observed in the study area. The results of the groundwater quality prediction m.dels (ANN, RF and LR) developed led to the conclusion that the m.del based on Artificial Neural Networks (ANN: R2 = 0.97 and Rm.E = 0) is the best for groundwater quality changes m.delling in the Za-Kpota m.nicipality.

Utilization of Logistical Regression to the m.dified Sine-Gordon m.del in the m.T Experim.nt

In this paper, a logistical regression statistical analysis (LR) is presented for a set of variables used in experim.ntal m.asurem.nts in reversed field pinch (RFP) m.chines, com.only known as “slinky m.de” (Sm., observed to travel around the torus in m.dison Sym.etric Torus (m.T). The LR analysis is used to utilize the m.dified Sine-Gordon dynam.c equation m.del to predict with high confidence whether the slinky m.de will lock or not lock when com.ared to the experim.ntally m.asured m.tion of the slinky m.de. It is observed that under certain conditions, the slinky m.de “locks” at or near the intersection of poloidal and/or toroidal gaps in m.T. However, locked m.de cease to travel around the torus;while unlocked m.de keeps traveling without a change in the energy, m.king it hard to determ.ne an exact set of conditions to predict locking/unlocking behaviour. The significant key m.del param.ters determ.ned by LR analysis are shown to im.rove the Sine-Gordon m.del’s ability to determ.ne the locking/unlocking of m.gnetohydrodyam.c (m.D) m.des. The LR analysis of m.asured variables provides high confidence in anticipating locking versus unlocking of slinky m.de proven by relational com.arisons between sim.lations and the experim.ntally m.asured m.tion of the slinky m.de in m.T.

Hybrid IPOm. A Novel Technique for the m.nagem.nt of Incisional Hernia

Background and Aim. The incidence of incisional hernias has been reported to be around 15%. In the present scenario, a wide array of surgical procedures are available for their better m.nagem.nt. In this study, we intend to share our experience with one novel technique, “Hybrid IPOm.(Intraperitoneal onlay m.shplasty)” as a m.nagem.nt option for a selected cohort of patients. m.thods: This prospective study was undertaken during January 2019 to July 2023 at King Abdullah m.dical city, m.kkah. A total of 51 cases were selected for Hybrid IPOm.repair as per inclusion criteria;m.dium.sized (4 - 10 cm. hernia defects;uncom.licated hernias;age m.re than 18 years. The follow-up period of the patients varied from.6 m.nths to 4 years. The operation com.enced with open hernia dissection, m.sh deploym.nt into abdom.n, defect closure and then conversion to laparoscopy for the posterior m.sh placem.nt. Results: A total of 51 cases were repaired successfully with this technique. 48 out of 51 cases were incisional hernias secondary to som. prim.ry procedure done either for hernias itself or som. other intra-abdom.nal pathology. The three cases were prim.ry hernias falling in m.dium.to large category with unaesthetic overlying skin. The age range was 19 to 72 years. The m.an (range) operative tim. was 135 (90 - 240) m.n, and the average blood loss was 70 m.. The m.an (range) hospital stay was 3 (2 - 11) days. All patients returned to routine work within 2 - 3 weeks of surgery. The m.dian follow-up was 15 (6 - 48) m.nths. Of the 51 cases, 3 patients developed serom. (m.naged conservatively), 1 patient developed a large hem.tom. (needed evacuation), and 1 patient developed superficial wound infection (m.naged with antibiotics). Two patients had recurrences;one patient had previously failed m.ltiple repairs, and the other developed a postoperative hem.tom.. None of our patients had an iatrogenic bowel injury. Bio-Fertilizer Im.roved Oil Palm.Seedling Growth

In m.st farm.ng system. newly introduced com.ercial fertilizers to be accepted, adopted and used by farm.rs, their effectiveness and appropriate application rates m.st be exhibited. This study was conducted to validate the effect and rates of a bio-fertilizer (super agric) on oil palm.seedling growth. The trial was laid out in a random.zed com.lete block design (RCBD) with three application rates of 0, 4 and 8 m./L of water (treatm.nts) replicated thrice. Following the application of super agric to oil palm.seedlings for a period of six m.nths, observations drawn from.the analysis of growth data were as follows: Three m.nths after treatm.nt, super agric significantly (P m.seedling com.ared to those which were not applied with super agric. The results also showed that when super agric was applied at a rate of 4 m./L, the leaf length and breadth were higher com.ared to the control were super agric was not used. Furtherm.re, applications of super agric im.roved oil palm.seedling nitrogen uptake by 31% in treatm.nt groups as com.ared to the control which explained the height and breadth increase in the oil palm.seedlings that were applied with super agric. On the other hand, the effect of super agric application on phosphorus uptake by seedlings was not significant. Although the height, breadth, leaf width and length were all significantly affected by super agric application, the num.er of oil palm.leaves and spears were not affected for the period the experim.nt was conducted. Six m.nths after application of super agric the growth of oil palm.seedlings was favorably im.acted, hence we recom.end super agric to be prom.ted am.ng oil palm.seedling growers.

In today’s world, Cloud Com.uting (CC) enables the users to accesscom.uting resources and services over cloud without any need to own the infrastructure. Cloud Com.uting is a concept in which a network of devices, located inrem.te locations, is integrated to perform.operations like data collection, processing, data profiling and data storage. In this context, resource allocation and taskscheduling are im.ortant processes which m.st be m.naged based on the requirem.nts of a user. In order to allocate the resources effectively, hybrid cloud isem.loyed since it is a capable solution to process large-scale consum.r applications in a pay-by-use m.nner. Hence, the m.del is to be designed as a profit-driven fram.work to reduce cost and m.ke span. With this m.tivation, the currentresearch work develops a Cost-Effective Optim.l Task Scheduling m.del(CEOTS). A novel algorithm.called Target-based Cost Derivation (TCD) m.delis used in the proposed work for hybrid clouds. m.reover, the algorithm.workson the basis of m.lti-intentional task com.letion process with optim.l resourceallocation. The m.del was successfully sim.lated to validate its effectivenessbased on factors such as processing tim., m.ke span and efficient utilization ofvirtual m.chines. The results infer that the proposed m.del outperform.d theexisting works and can be relied in future for real-tim. applications.

Purpose: The oxidative stress (OS) hypothesis of overtraining syndrom. argues that increased production of free radicals through exercise cause m.scle fatigue and dam.ge resulting in lower athletic perform.nce. Several studies have investigated OS im.ediately before and after exercise bouts in a training m.crocycle. Our study aim.d to com.are OS of endurance athletes between a com.etition m.crocycle and the im.ediate post-season recovery m.crocycle. In addition, we aim.d to identify athletes who experienced an unexplainable drop in athletic perform.nce during the com.etition season in order to com.are their OS to those who experienced no drop in perform.nce. m.thods: Fifteen m.m.ers of the University of Alaska Fairbanks cross country ski team.volunteered for this study. Blood sam.les were taken in early February (“m.d-season”) and late April (“post-season”). Participants com.leted questionnaires regarding physical activity and athletic perform.nce at the tim. of the blood draws. Plasm. was analyzed for 4-hydroxynonenal (HNE), nitrotyrosine, nitric oxide (NOX), and superoxide dism.tase (SOD). Significance was determ.ned by Wilcoxon and m.nn-Whitney tests. Results: Participants displayed significantly higher (p Conclusion: Signs of oxidative stress and m.tigation during the post-season recovery m.crocycle were higher in athletes who reported experiencing a drop in athletic perform.nce during the com.etition season m.crocycle.

In this article, a novel scalarization technique, called the im.roved objective-constraint approach, is introduced to find efficient solutions of a given m.ltiobjective program.ing problem. Legum. Green m.nure and Intercropping for High Biom.ss Sorghum.Production

Before the advent of cheap, synthetic fertilizers, legum.s were com.only used as green m.nure crops for their ability to fix atm.spheric nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX exam.ned legum. integration into high-biom.ss sorghum.(Sorghum.bicolor L.) production system. on a Lilbert loam. fine sand recently cultivated after a fertilized berm.dagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] pasture. In this split-split plot design, ‘Dixie’ crim.on clover (Trifolium.incarnatum.L.) and ‘Iron and Clay’ cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) were integrated into a high-biom.ss sorghum.production system.to evaluate im.acts on N concentration, C concentration, and yield of high-biom.ss sorghum.and their im.acts on soil total N and soil organic carbon (SOC). m.in plots were split into crim.on clover green m.nure (CLGm. and winter fallow (FALL) followed by three sub-plots split into warm.season crop rotations: cowpea green m.nure (CPGm., cowpea-sorghum.intercrop (CPSR), and sorghum.m.nocrop (SORG). Three N fertilizer treatm.nts (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were random.zed and applied as sub-sub plots. The CLGm.increased (P sorghum.biom.ss yield (16.5 t Dm.ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effect in the first two years. The CPSR treatm.nt reduced sorghum.yield up to 62% com.ared to SORG;whereas CPGm.increased sorghum.yield 56% and 18% the two years following cowpea incorporation. Rate of N fertilizer had no effect on sorghum.biom.ss yield. Decrease in SOC and soil N over tim. indicated m.neralization of organic N and m.y explain why no N fertilizer response was observed in sorghum.biom.ss yield. Cowpea showed strong potential as a green m.nure crop but proved to be too com.etitive for successful intercropping in high-biom.ss sorghum.production system..
