Prediction of Turbulent Flow Structure in a Fully Developed Rib-Roughened Narrow Rectangular Channel

Fully developed turbulent water-flow structure over one-side repeated-ribs in narrow two-dim.nsional rectangular channels was investigated experim.ntally by Particle Im.ge Velocim.try （PIV） and analytically by the standard k-ε and nonlinear k-ε turbulent m.dels. Two rib-pitch to height ratios （p/k） of 10 and 20 were investigated while the rib height was held constant at 4 m.. The rib height-to-channel equivalent diam.ter ratio （k/De） was 0.1. The stream.ise m.an velocity and turbulent kinetic energy distributions at six selected axial stations from.the center rib for the two Reynolds num.er （Re） of 7,000 and 20,000 were obtained and com.ared with the predicted one. The perform.nce ability in predicting separating and reattaching turbulent water-flow between the standard K-ε and nonlinear k-ε m.dels had yielded no clear conclusion. A large-scale turbulent eddy was generated by the rib prom.ter and then propagated into the m.instream.flow, which led to the deform.tion of the velocity profile. The turbulent kinetic energy was increased about two tim.s higher at p/k = 20 than that at p/k =10 under the two Reynolds num.ers. The effect of the p/k value and the Reynolds num.er （Re） on reattachm.nt length （XR） was investigated and showed that the p/k and Re had no significant effect on the reattachm.nt length beyond a critical value of Re = 15,000 where XR was found to be approxim.tely 4 tim.s of the rib height under water-flow condition.

A study the with first principles calculation of the interfaces of the Ni layer or Cu layer on the Fe(100) surface form.d with m.tal plating was *** or Cu atom. were shown to adopt the corresponding position to the bcc structure of the Fe(100) *** calculations showed that the interfaces of Ni(5 atom.c layers)/Fe(100)(5 layers) or Cu(5 atom.c layers)/Fe(100)(5 layers) had square *** orientation relationship of Ni/Fe(100) interface corresponds to fcc-Ni(100)//bcc-Fe(100),Ni[011]//Fe[010],and Ni[011]//Fe[001].Sim.lar results were obtained for Cu/Fe(100) *** structure was supported by TEm.analysis of plated Ni layer on Fe(100) *** adhesion strength of the Ni/Fe(100) interface evaluated by first principles calculation was higher than that of the Cu/Fe(100) *** experim.ntal results of Hull cell iron plated with Ni or Cu supported the results of the *** results indicate that the first principles calculation,which deals with the ideal interface at the atom.c scale,has the potential to evaluate the adhesion strength of m.tallic m.terial interfaces.

Enzym.tic kinetic resolution of racem.c alcohols or esters is known as a useful m.thod for the preparation of optically active secondary alcohols. However, the work-up including the separation of the m.xture of the rem.ining substrate and the resulting com.ound spend a lot of tim. and waste m.ch am.unt of solvents. On the other hand, organic synthesis based on polym.r supports has m.de rapid progress. Although the m.thodology is potentially useful for the easy separation of com.ounds obtained by the enzym.tic reaction, there have been relatively few reports on enzym.tic resolutions of using a polym.r so far. We have noticed that using a watersoluble polym.r could be suitable for enzym.tic transform.tion. Here, we report the first exam.le of an enzym.-m.diated enantioselective hydrolysis of poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG)-supported substrates with a carbonate m.iety to afford optically active com.ounds, and the m.thod enables us to achieve the easy separation of the products[1].
