Superconductor sam.les of type (CoFe2O4)xGdBa2Cu3O7-δ (0≤x≤0.1) were synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction technique, whereas nanosized CoFe2O4 was prepared by co-precipitation m.thod with grain size of about 8.5 nm. The elem.ntal content of the prepared sam.les was determ.ned using particle induced X-ray em.ssion (PIXE). The tem.erature dependence of real (χ’) and im.ginary (χ?) com.onents of AC m.gnetic susceptibility (ACm.) at different m.gnetic field am.litude (3-15 Oe) was investigated. The analysis of the tem.erature dependence of ACm. was perform.d using Bean critical state m.del. The values of the critical current density J c at T > T p (T p is the inter-granular loss peak tem.erature) were calculated as a function of m.gnetic field and nanosized CoFe2O4 content. It was found that the low nanosized CoFe2O4 addition content (x = 0.01) im.roves the critical current density J c of Gd-123 superconducting phase. The observed variation of J c with tem.erature indicated that the weak links are changed from.superconductor-norm.l m.tal-superconductor (SNS) for free sam.le to superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) type of junctions for sam.les added with nanosized CoFe2O4 of x > 0.01. We also discussed the experim.ntal results in the fram.work of the critical state m.del to estim.te the effective volum. fraction of the grains f g using Cole-Cole plots.

We report usefulness of ultrasound used as an adjunct diagnostic tool to m.m.ogram.in routine annual checkup for wom.n breasts of certain ages and breast m.ss. The purpose of breast im.ging is to detect areas of tissue distortion and breast cancers. A m.m.ogram.is the com.on diagnostic im.ging m.dality used to find breast diseases but som.tim.s the m.m.ogram.m.ght not give the doctor enough inform.tion especially in wom.n with dense breasts. As a result, the patient m.y be asked to undergo ultrasound or m.gnetic resonance im.ging as a better m.an of judgm.nt to the case. Because ultrasound is widely used, sim.le and safe to patients we were encouraged to em.hasis on exploring its role adjunct to m.m.ogram. A retrospective observation study was done at the diagnostic radiology departm.nt at King Abdulaziz University Hospital (KAUH) in the period from.January 2012 to June 2012;we covered all wom.n with dense breasts in m.m.ography and ultrasound units. The study group was 40 patients. All patients were im.ged with both m.m.ography and ultrasound. The statistical m.asures of accuracy, sensitivity and specificity were calculated using the SPSS program. The results we obtained suggest that age and the physical density of breast potentially affect m.m.ogram.im.ges of wom.n with 41 years or sm.ller with sensitivity 66% and specificity 68%. Therefore, we recom.end using ultrasound alongside the m.m.ogram.in wom.n with dense breast for better diagnosis of sm.ll cancers that were not identified on m.m.ography or clinical breast exam.nation alone.

m.I is an excellent option for detection of breast cancer for som. selected groups, including those patients with a high probability to hit the disease. However, the high costs and low availability of the device have led to a decline in the application of im.ging m.I. The aim.of this study was to review usefulness of m.I as a new com.lem.ntary way to detect breast cancer in routine annual checkup for wom.n breasts of certain ages and breast m.ss. A cross-sectional Descriptive m.I study was perform.d on 105 asym.tom.tic wom.n with a m.an age of 49 years. The study group with at least one risk factor of breast cancer were presenting for routine annual screening or follow up at King Abdulaziz University Hospital in Jeddah. It has been found that, 48 patients had biopsy, they were recom.ended by m.gnetic resonance im.ging and only 14 had positive results, while m.gnetic resonance im.ging suggested 16 and m.m.ography had 62 positive results. m.gnetic resonance im.ging is not recom.ended for the average-risk or the general population either;it had been advised for screening the high-risk wom.n of breast cancer. Sensitivity of m.gnetic resonance im.ging has been found to be m.ch higher than of m.m.ography but specificity was generally lower. We propose that it is reasonable to consider m.I as a com.lem.nt to m.m.ography in screening patients who were at high risk for breast cancer because m.gnetic Resonance Im.ging can detect sm.ll foci that are occult in m.m.ography but we don’t advise to check with the general population.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) may promote hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and hypertension (HTN). Purpose: To evaluate if there is a relationship between the severity of OSA and the severity of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and HTN in our patients, aiming to understand and optimize the control for comorbidities. Materials and Methods: Patients referred for polysomnography (PSG) were retrospectively recruited during the period from October 2017 to August 2020. A STOP-BANG questionnaire formed eight questions was used to assess the risk of OSAS. Stress during prenatal developm.nt is correlated with detrim.ntal cognitive and behavioral outcom.s in offspring. However, the long-term.im.act of prenatal stress(PS) and disrupted glucocorticoid signaling on bone m.ss and strength is not understood. In contrast, the detrim.ntal effect of lead(Pb) on skeletal health is well docum.nted. As stress and Pb act on com.on biological targets via glucocorticoid signaling pathways and co-occur in the environm.nt, this study first sought to assess the com.ined effect of stress and Pb on bone quality in association with alterations in glucocorticoid signaling. Bone param.ters were evaluated using m.croCT, histom.rphom.try, and strength determ.nation in 8-m.nth-old m.le m.use offspring subjected to PS on gestational days 16 and 17, lifetim. Pb exposure(100 p.p.m. Pb in drinking water), or to both. Pb reduced trabecular bone m.ss and, when com.ined with PS, Pb unm.sked an exaggerated decrem.nt in bone m.ss and tensile strength. Next, to characterize a m.chanism.of glucocorticoid effect on bone, prednisolone was im.lanted subcutaneously(controlled-release pellet, 5 m.·kg^(-1) per day) in 5-m.nth-old m.ce that decreased osteoblastic activity and increased sclerostin and leptin levels. Furtherm.re, the synthetic glucocorticoid dexam.thasone alters the anabolic Wnt signaling pathway. The Wnt pathway inhibitor sclerostin has several glucocorticoid response elem.nts, and dexam.thasone adm.nistration to osteoblastic cells induces sclerostin expression. Dexam.thasone treatm.nt of isolated bone m.rrow cells decreased bone nodule form.tion, whereas rem.val of sclerostin protected against this decrem.nt in ***, these findings suggest that bone loss associated with steroid-induced osteoporosis is a consequence of sclerostin-m.diated restriction of Wnt signaling, which m.y m.chanistically facilitate glucocorticoid toxicity in bone.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictive value of real-tim. ultrasound elastography (RUE) in differentiating benign from.m.lignant thyroid nodules, with fine needle aspiration cytology analysis as the reference standard. A total of 78 consecutive patients with thyroid nodules who were selected for fine needle aspiration biopsies were exam.ned in this prospective study. 78 nodules in these patients were exam.ned by conventional ultrasound, and ultrasound elastography. The final diagnosis was obtained from.cytological findings. Tissue stiffness on ultrasound elastography was scored from.1 (low stiffness over the entire nodule) to 5 (high stiffness over the entire nodule and surrounding tissue). On real-tim. ultrasound elastography, 47 of 62 benign nodules (76%) had a score of 1 or 2, whereas 15 of 16 m.lignant nodules had a score of 3 to 5, with sensitivity of 93.7%, specificity of 90%, a positive predictive value of 71%, and a negative predictive value of 98%. Real-tim. ultrasound elastography is a prom.sing im.ging technique that is useful in the differential diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Utilization of ultrasound elastography could reduce the rate of thyroid biopsies because of its high elasticity being highly associated with benign cytology.

Starting from.4,6-dim.thyl-2-oxo-(1H)-3-pyridinecarbonitrile 1 and 3-am.nopyrazolopyridine 4, a series of cyanopyri- dine derivatives 3a-i, Schiff bases 5a-f, urea and thiourea derivatives 6a-b, am.de derivatives 7a-h, pyridopyra- zolopy-rim.dine 8a-b and pyridopyrazolotriazine 10a-b were synthesized. Activities of eleven representative com.ounds were evaluated against A-549 (lung), HEPG2 (liver) and HCT-116 (colon) cancer cell lines. The findings revealed that som. of the synthesized com.ounds showed rem.rkable anticancer activities, especially 8b which displayed the highest activity am.ng the tested com.ounds with IC50 equal to 2.9, 2.6 and 2.3 μm.l. In addition to synthesis and biological activities, we present discussion about the rationale of the design and activity of the potent com.ound 8b using struc- ture-based m.deling tools.
