Developm.nt of a Generic m.del for the Detection of Roof m.terials Based on an Object-Based Approach Using WorldView-2 Satellite Im.gery

The detection of im.ervious surface (IS) in heterogeneous urban areas is one of the m.st challenging tasks in urban rem.te sensing. One of the lim.tations in IS detection at the parcel level is the lack of sufficient training data. In this study, a generic m.del of spatial distribution of roof m.terials is considered to overcom. this lim.tation. A generic m.del that is based on spectral, spatial and textural inform.tion which is extracted from.available training data is proposed. An object-based approach is used to extract the inform.tion inherent in the im.ge. Furtherm.re, linear discrim.nant analysis is used for dim.nsionality reduction and to discrim.nate between different spatial, spectral and textural attributes. The generic m.del is com.osed of a discrim.nant function based on linear com.inations of the predictor variables that provide the best discrim.nation am.ng the groups. The discrim.nate analysis result shows that of the 54 attributes extracted from.the WorldView-2 im.ge, only 13 attributes related to spatial, spectral and textural inform.tion are useful for discrim.nating different roof m.terials. Finally, this m.del is applied to different WorldView-2 im.ges from.different areas and proves that this m.del has good potential to predict roof m.terials from.the WorldView-2 im.ges without using training data.

Plated contacts for solar cells with superior adhesion strength to screen printed solar cells

The im.rovem.nt of adhesion strength and durability of plated contacts is required for cell m.nufacturers to gain confidence for large-scale m.nufacturing. To overcom. weak adhesion at the m.tal/Si interface, new approaches were developed. These involve the form.tion of laser-ablated anchor points, or grooves in the extrem. case of overlapping anchor points, in the heavily doped silicon surface. When plated, these features greatly strengthen the m.chanical adhesion strength of the m.tal. A stylus-based adhesion tester was developed specifically for evaluating the effectiveness of plated contacts to sm.oth silicon surfaces. The use of such a tester was also extended in this work to textured and roughened surfaces to allow evaluation of different m.tal contacting approaches. The adhesion strengths for various m.tal contacting schem.s were evaluated, including screenprinted silver contacts, nickel/copper （Ni/Cu） light- induced plated （LIP） contacts for laser-doped selective em.tter （LDSE） ceils, buried-contact solar cells （BCSCs）, and Ni/Cu LIP contacts form.d with laser-ablated anchoring points in selective em.tter （LAASE） cells. The latter has superior adhesion strength. The standard ＂peel test＂ of the industry was com.ared to the stylus-based adhesion testing, with the latter shown value for testing m.tal contacts on sm.oth surfaces but with caution needed for use with textured or roughened surfaces.

Soil saliniz.tion is a land degradation process that leads to reduced agricultural yields. This study investigated the m.thod that can best predict electrical conductivity (EC) in dry soils using individual bands, a norm.liz.d difference salinity index (NDSI), partial least squares regression (PLSR), and bagging PLSR. Soil spectral reflectance of dried, ground, and sieved soil sam.les containing varying am.unts of EC was m.asured using an ASD FieldSpec spectrom.ter in a darkroom. Predictive m.dels were com.uted using a training dataset. An independent validation dataset was used to validate the m.dels. The results showed that good predictions could be m.de based on bagging PLSR using first derivative reflectance (validation R2 = 0.85), PLSR using untransform.d reflectance (validation R2 = 0.70), NDSI (validation R2 = 0.65), and the untransform.d individual band at 2257 nm.(validation R2 = 0.60) predictive m.dels. These suggested the potential of m.pping soil salinity using airborne and/or satellite hyperspectral data during dry seasons.

Utiliz.ng Stability Index Tracing for Precise Load Buses Identification in Load Shedding Problem

This paper proposes a new approach for suitable load buses identification via stability index tracing in perform.ng corrective load shedding. The proposed identification technique is called the Fast Voltage Stability Index Load Tracing (FVSI-LT). By im.lem.nting a power tracing algorithm. a group of m.jor contributors on the stress experienced by a power system.is able to be precisely identified by a system.operator (SO) based on the traced values of FVSI. To be precise, the traced FVSI via FVSI-LT can be used to form.a ranking list indicating the priority of buses com.itted for shedding purpose. After designing a Fuz.y Inference System.(FIS) for deciding the allowable load powers to be shed and perform.ng experim.nt on IEEE 57-Bus reliability test system.(RTS), it is revealed that the ranking list provided by FVSI-LT results to the m.st consistent im.rovem.nt in term. of voltage stability and losses m.nim.z.tion.

Effect of Seasonal Variations and Weather Factors on Population Dynam.cs of m.ngo m.alybug (Drosicha m.ngiferae) in Bangladesh

An experim.nt was conducted in m.ngo orchard of Sher-E Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) cam.us, Dhaka to determ.ne the effect of seasonal variation round the year and weather on population dynam.cs of m.ngo m.alybug (Drosicha m.ngiferae) on m.ngo tree. The m.ngo m.alybug was first appeared in early Decem.er and disappeared in June in a year. Its population started to increase gradually from.Decem.er and continued up to February when the am.ient average tem.erature was 20.95°C, relative hum.dity 63% and rainfall was absent. The highest population of the insect (33.33/30 cm.branch) was recorded in February and the lowest (3.75/30cm.branch) in m.y. Adult insects appeared in February on the ground under the selected m.ngo tree showing the population of 6.67 m.les and 123.33 fem.les per 81 m.sup>2. Population of m.les (32.5/81m.sup>2) and that of fem.les (352.75/81m.sup>2) reached to the peak when the am.ient tem.erature was 28.19°C, relative hum.dity 61% and the rainfall was 0.00 m.. When relative hum.dity was high and rainfall started adult fem.les enter into the soil and disappeared. Correlation between population of m.alybug and tem.erature was positive. Its population was negatively correlated with relative hum.dity and rainfall.

Ultra-precision m.chining is an effective approach to achieve high dim.nsion accuracy and surface finish required in optical and laser com.onents. An extensive study using a two-axis diam.nd turning m.chine is conducted to m.chine the reflector arrays used for laser diode beam.shaping. To position the workpiece precisely, theoretical analysis is m.de so that the dim.nsional accuracy can be achieved. Investigations into m.chining burr reduction are carried out. With the process developed, reflectors with optical surface finish of 8 nm.in Ra and m.nim.z.d burr siz. of less than 0.5 μm.have been achieved.

Boundary procedure is an im.ortant phenom.non in num.rical sim.lation. To reduce or elim.nate the spurious reflections significantly which is occurred in boundary is a challenging and vital approach. The appropriate artificial num.rical boundaries can be applied to elim.nate the effect of unnecessary spurious reflections in case of the num.rical sim.lations of wave propagation phenom.na problem.. Typically, to reduce the artificial reflections, the absorbing boundary conditions are necessary. In this paper, we overview and investigate the appropriate typical absorbing boundary conditions and analyz.d the boundary effect of two dim.nsional wave equation num.rically. Reflections over the wide-ranging incident angles are com.licated to elim.nate, but the absorbing boundary conditions that we have applied are com.utationally cost efficient, easy to apply and able to reduce reflections significantly. For num.rical solution, finite difference m.thod is applied to develop num.rical schem. using 2D wave equation. Using the developed num.rical schem., we obtain the num.rical solution of the governing equation as an initial boundary value problem.and realiz. the qualitative behavior of the solution in infinite space. The finite difference num.rical schem. has been investigated by developing m.TLAB program.ing language code. Num.rical results have been discussed and analyz.d with presenting different qualitative behavior of the num.rical schem.. The accuracy and efficiency of the num.rical schem. has been illustrated. The stability analysis was discussed and verified stability condition. Using the num.rical schem. and absorbing boundary conditions, the boundary effects and absorption of spurious reflection of boundary have been dem.nstrated.
