Effects of therm.l boundary.conditions on the joule heating of electroly.e in a m.crochannel

Joule heating effects on a slit m.crocharm.l filled with electroly.es are com.rehensively.investigated with em.hasis on the therm.l boundary.conditions. An accurate analy.ical expression is proposed for the electrical field and the tem.erature distributions due to Joule heating are num.rically.obtained from.the energy.balance equation. The results show that a therm.l design based on the average electric potential difference between electrodes can cause severe underestim.tion of Joule heating. In addition, the param.- tric study.of therm.l boundary.conditions gives us an insight into the best cooling scenario for m.crofluidic devices. Other significant therm.l characteristics, including Nusselt num.er, therm.phoretic force, and entropy.generation, are discussed as well. This study.will provide useful inform.tion for the optim.zation of a biom.m. device in relation to the therm.l aspect.

Num.rical Sim.lation of Interaction of a Current with a Circular Cy.inder near a Rigid Bed

The num.rical m.deling of a 2D flow around a horizontal cy.inder near a rigid bed with the gap ratios G/D = 0, 0.2, 0.3 at Rey.olds num.ers 840, 4500, 9000, and 9500 is investigated by.using weakly.com.ressible sm.othed particle hy.rody.am.cs. The velocity.field and the separation angles from.the present sim.lations are com.ared with those obtained from.the experim.ntal m.asurem.nts and are in a good agreem.nt. The results show that the m.xim.m.value of shear stress on the bed increases as the cy.inder closes the bed and suddenly.decreases when the cy.inder contact the wall.

Therm.l Radiation, Joule Heating, and Viscous Dissipation Effects on m.D Forced Convection Flow with Uniform.Surface Tem.erature

In this paper, we studied the effects of therm.l radiation, Joule heating and viscous dissipation on forced convection flow in a m.gnetohy.rody.am.cs (nam.ly.m.D) pum. in rectangular channel with uniform.surface tem.erature. Num.rical results were obtained by.solving the nonlinear governing m.m.ntum.and energy.equations with steady.state fully.developed assum.tions by.finite difference m.thod. The Lorentz force in m.m.ntum.and Joule heating, and viscous dissipation in energy.equation with the Rossel and approxim.tion are assum.d to increase the knowledge of the details of the tem.erature and flow field in order to design a m.D pum.. The purpose of this study.is the param.tric study.of a Newtonian fluid in a m.D pum.. The values of m.xim.m.velocity. fully.developed Nusselt num.er for different values of m.gnetic density.flux, Brinkm.n num.er, viscous heating and radiation num.er are obtained. However, the m.xim.m.tem.erature stay. alm.st constant with m.gnetic field, as current increases, the velocity.and the tem.erature increase too. Besides, the increase of therm.l radiation num.er causes the increase in effective therm.l conductivity.and decrease in therm.l boundary.lay.r and the Nusselt num.er at wall.
