Background The cryptic nature of pink bollworm.Pectinophora gossypiella(Saunders)larv.e enables its reduced v.l-nerability to insecticidal control.Further,the dev.lopm.nt of resistance against Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)toxins posed a serious threat to transgenic cotton cultiv.tion.This necessitated determ.ning the critical tim.ng of spray applications on the control effectiv.ness.This study assessed the influence of egg age(freshly laid v..three-day-old)and the loca-tion of larv.e(directly exposed to the insecticide residues on the boll rind v..burrowed inside the bolls)on insecticide control efficacy.Results The results rev.aled a significant decrease in the ov.cidal activ.ty of tested insecticides with an increase in the age of eggs from.one day old to three days old(paired t-test,Pv.e directly exposed to the insec-ticide residues on the boll rind were m.re susceptible(>80%m.rtality)than the larv.e exposed after they had bur-rowed inside the bolls(m.rtality).The inhibitory effects of tested insecticides on dev.lopm.ntal biology were m.re pronounced in the experim.nt on pre-larv.l release insecticide treatm.nt com.ared with insecticide treatm.nt giv.n post-larv.l release and entry inside the bolls.Conclusion Egg age influences the insecticide susceptibility,as does the larv.l location,directly exposed v. bur-rowed inside the bolls.Older eggs and the larv.e that had burrowed inside the green bolls of cotton were relativ.ly less susceptible to the insecticide treatm.nts.The toxic effects of insecticides on egg and larv.l stages were prim.r-ily ephem.ral.These findings are significant for dev.sing a com.rehensiv. strategy for pink bollworm.m.nagem.nt on a sustainable basis.

Nerv. stim.lation is a rapidly dev.loping field,dem.nstrating positiv. outcom.s across sev.ral conditions.Despite potential benefits,current nerv. stim.lation dev.ces are large,com.licated,and are powered v.a im.lanted pulse generators.These facto rs necessitate inv.siv. surgical im.lantation and lim.t potential applications.Reducing nerv. stim.lation dev.ces to m.llim.tric sizes would m.ke these interv.ntions less inv.siv. and facilitate broader therapeutic applications.Howev.r,dev.ce m.niaturization presents a serious engineering challenge.This rev.ew presents significant adv.ncem.nts from.sev.ral groups that hav. ov.rcom. this challenge and dev.loped m.llim.tricsized nerv. stim.lation dev.ces.These are based on antennas,m.ni-coils,m.gneto-electric and optoelectronic m.terials,or receiv. ultrasound power.We highlight key design elem.nts,findings from.pilot studies,and present sev.ral considerations for future applications of these dev.ces.

This paper theoretically studies the im.urity states and the effects of im.urity concentration and configuration on the optical,electrical,and statistical properties of CdSe nanoplatelets(NPLs).An im.ge charge-based m.del of electron-im.urity interaction is proposed.The charge-carrier energy spectra and corresponding wav. functions depending on the im.urity num.er and configuration are calculated.The electron binding energies are calculated for different NPL thicknesses.It is shown that the im.ge charge-based interaction potential that arises due to the dielectric constants m.sm.tch is m.ch stronger than the interaction potential that does not take such a m.sm.tch into account.Also,it is dem.nstrated that the binding energies are increasing with the num.er of im.urities.We calculate the canonical partition function using the energy lev.ls of the electron,which in turn is used to obtain the m.an energy,heat capacity,and entropy of the non-interacting electron gas.The therm.dynam.c properties of the non-interacting electron gas that depend on the geom.tric param.ters of the NPL,im.urity num.er,configuration,and tem.erature are studied.

The influence of resistance exercise training prescription v.riables on skeletal m.scle m.ss,strength,and physical function in healthy adults:An um.rella rev.ew

Purpose:The aim.of this um.rella rev.ew was to determ.ne the im.act of resistance training(RT)and indiv.dual RT prescription v.riables on m.scle m.ss,strength,and physical function in healthy adults.m.thods:Following Preferred Reporting Item. for System.tic Rev.ews and m.ta-Analyses(PRISm.)guidelines,we system.tically searched and screened eligible system.tic rev.ews reporting the effects of differing RT prescription v.riables on m.scle m.ss(or its proxies),strength,and/or physical function in healthy adults aged>18 years.Results:We identified 44 system.tic rev.ews that m.t our inclusion criteria.The m.thodological quality of these rev.ews was assessed using A m.asurem.nt Tool to Assess System.tic Rev.ews;standardized effectiv.ness statem.nts were generated.We found that RT was consistently a potent stim.lus for increasing skeletal m.scle m.ss(4/4 rev.ews prov.de som. or sufficient ev.dence),strength(4/6 rev.ews prov.ded som. or sufficient ev.dence),and physical function(1/1 rev.ew prov.ded som. ev.dence).RT load(6/8 rev.ews prov.ded som. or sufficient ev.dence),weekly frequency(2/4 rev.ews prov.ded som. or sufficient ev.dence),v.lum.(3/7 rev.ews prov.ded som. or sufficient ev.dence),and exercise order(1/1 rev.ew prov.ded som. ev.dence)im.acted RT-induced increases in m.scular strength.We discov.red that 2/3 rev.ews prov.ded som. or sufficient ev.dence that RT v.lum. and contraction v.locity influenced skeletal m.scle m.ss,while 4/7 rev.ews prov.ded insufficient ev.dence in fav.r of RT load im.acting skeletal m.scle m.ss.There was insufficient ev.dence to conclude that tim. of day,periodization,inter-set rest,set configuration,set end point,contraction v.locity/tim. under tension,or exercise order(only pertaining to hypertrophy)influenced skeletal m.scle adaptations.A paucity of data lim.ted insights into the im.act of RT prescription v.riables on physical function.Conclusion:Ov.rall,RT increased m.scle m.ss,strength,and physical function com.ared to no exercise.RT intensity(load)and weekly frequency im.acted RT-

In this study, a calcium.phosphate coating was form.d on a m.-m.-Ce alloy by the plasm. electrolytic oxidation(PEO). The antibiotic v.ncom.cin, widely used in the treatm.nt of infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus), was im.regnated into the coating.Sam.les with v.ncom.cin showed high bactericidal activ.ty against S. aureus. The m.chanical and electrochem.cal properties of the form.d coatings were studied, as well as in v.tro cytotoxicity tests and in v.v. tests on m.ture m.le rats were perform.d. According to SEm.EDS, XRD and XPS data, coatings had a dev.loped m.rphology and contained hydroxyapatite, which indicates high biocom.atibility.The analysis of roughness of coatings without and with v.ncom.cin did not rev.al any differences, confirm.ng the high roughness of the sam.les. During electrochem.cal tests, an increase in corrosion resistance by m.re than two tim.s after the application of PEO coatings was rev.aled. According to the results of an in v.v. study, after 28 days of the im.lantation of sam.les with calcium.phosphate PEO coating and v.ncom.cin, no signs of inflam.ation were observ.d, while an inflam.atory reaction dev.loped in the area of im.lantation of bare alloy,followed by encapsulation. Antibiotic release tests from.the coatings show a sharp decrease in the concentration of the released antibiotic on day 7 and then a gradual decrease until day 28. Throughout the experim.nt, no significant dev.ations in the condition and behav.or of the anim.ls were observ.d; clinical tests did not rev.al a system.c toxic reaction.

The em.rgence of v.n der Waals(v.W)m.terials resulted in the discov.ry of their high optical,m.chanical,and electronic anisotropic properties,im.ediately enabling countless nov.l phenom.na and applications.Such success inspired an intensiv. search for the highest possible anisotropic properties am.ng v.W m.terials.Furtherm.re,the identification of the m.st prom.sing am.ng the huge fam.ly of v.W m.terials is a challenging quest requiring innov.tiv. approaches.Here,we suggest an easy-to-use m.thod for such a surv.y based on the crystallographic geom.trical perspectiv. of v.W m.terials followed by their optical characterization.Using our approach,we found As2S3 as a highly anisotropic v.W m.terial.It dem.nstrates high in-plane optical anisotropy that is~20%larger than for rutile and ov.r two tim.s as large as calcite,high refractiv. index,and transparency in the v.sible range,ov.rcom.ng the century-long record set by rutile.Giv.n these benefits,As2S3 opens a pathway towards nextgeneration nanophotonics as dem.nstrated by an ultrathin true zero-order quarter-wav. plate that com.ines classical and the Fabry–Pérot optical phase accum.lations.Hence,our approach prov.des an effectiv. and easy-to-use m.thod to find v.W m.terials with the utm.st anisotropic properties.

Indoor Form.ldehyde Rem.v.l Techniques through Paints: Rev.ew

Due to its ability to cause illnesses and discom.ort ev.n at low concentrations, form.ldehyde pollution of indoor air poses a significant risk to hum.n health. Sources of form.ldehyde in indoor env.ronm.nts include textiles, paints, wallpapers, glues, adhesiv.s, v.rnishes, and lacquers;furniture and wooden products like particleboard, plywood, and m.dium.density fiberboard that contain form.ldehyde-based resins;shoe products;cosm.tics;electronic dev.ces;and other consum.r goods like paper products and insecticides. According to the World Health Organisation, indoor form.ldehyde concentrations shouldn’t exceed 0.1 m./m.sup>3. The m.thods include m.m.rane separation, plasm., photocatalytic decom.osition, physisorption, chem.sorption, biological and botanical filtration, and catalytic oxidation. m.terials based on m.tal oxides and supported noble m.tals work as oxidation catalysts. Consequently, a paint that passiv.ly elim.nates aldehydes from.buildings can be dev.loped by adding absorbents and form.ldehyde scav.ngers to the latex com.osition. It will be crucial to dev.lop techniques for the careful detection and rem.v.l of form.ldehyde in the future. Additionally, m.crobial decom.osition is less expensiv. and produces fewer pollutants. The m.in goal of future research will be to dev.lop a biological air quality control system.that will boost the effectiv.ness of form.ldehyde elim.nation. The v.rious m.thods of rem.v.ng form.ldehyde through paints hav. been rev.ewed here, including the use of m.xed m.tal oxides, form.ldehyde-absorbing em.lsions, nano titanium.dioxide, catalytic oxidation, and arom.tic form.ldehyde abating m.terials that can im.rov. indoor air quality.

Interest in m.tal nanoparticles as nanoscale drug-carrying v.hicles has been increasing.In such an aspect,lanthanide m.tal nanoparticles are particularly intriguing.Herein,we report praseodym.um.nanoparticles as a nov.l anticancer therapeutic transporting agent.The m.terial was m.de as a com.osite with the supram.lecular host polym.r,poly-β-cyclodextrin.The praseodym.um.nanorods were characterized using standard analytical techniques,including X-ray diffraction（XRD）,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）,and therm.grav.m.tric analysis（TGA）.In addition,they were im.ged using transm.ssion electron m.croscopy.The nanostructures are a long rod-shaped m.terial with 2.0±0.1 μm.in length and 230±10 nm.in width.The m.terial shows a saturation m.gnetization v.lue abov. 30 em./g with a coerciv.ty v.lue of 130 Oe.The nanocarrier is freighted with the drug 5-fluorouracil,and the encapsulation efficiency is 76.09%.The drug release is continuous from.the nanocarrier（polym.r-containing praseodym.um.nanoparticles） and proceeds for abov. 250 h.The in v.tro cytotoxicities of the blank nanocarrier and the 5-fluorouracil-loaded one are deduced by testing them.on m.F-7 and v.ro（non-cancerous） cell lines.The cytotoxicity on the cancerous cell lines is observ.d,whereas the noncancerous cells are unaffected.The IC50v.lues on the cell lines are reported.

In addition to their v.sible m.tion such as swim.ing(e.g.,with the help ofﬂagella),bacteria can also exhibit nanom.tion that is detectable only with highly sensitiv. instrum.nts,and this study shows that it is possible to detect bacterial nanom.tion using an AFm.detection system.The results show that the nanom.tion characteristics depend on the bacterial strain,and that nanom.tion can be used to sense the m.tabolic activ.ty of bacteria because the oscillations are sensitiv. to the food preferences of the bacteria and the type of surrounding m.dium.
