The aim.of the present paper was to check for the presence of cerebrovascular dystroglycan in vertebrates,because dystroglycan,which is localized in the vascular astroglial end-feet,has a pivotal function in glio-vascular *** m.m.alian brains,the im.unoreactivity ofβ-dystroglycan subunit delineates the *** results of the present study dem.nstrate sim.lar patterns in other vertebrates,except for anurans and the teleost groups Ostariophysi and *** this study,we investigated 1 or 2 representative species of the m.in groups of Chondrichthyes,teleost and non-teleost ray-finned fishes,urodeles,anurans,and *** also investigated 5 m.m.alian and 3 bird *** were obtained from.breeders or *** presence ofβ-dystroglycan was investigated im.unohistochem.cally in free-floating ***-em.edding electron m.croscopical im.unohistochem.stry on Heterodontus japonicus shark brains dem.nstrated that in Elasm.branchii,β-dystroglycan is also localized in the perivascular glial end-feet despite the different construction of their blood-brain *** results indicated that the cerebrovascularβ-dystroglycan im.unoreactivity disappeared separately in anurans,and in teleosts,in the latter group before its division to Ostariophysi and ***m.nohistochem.stry in m.scles and western blots from.brain hom.genates,however,detected the presence ofβ-dystroglycan,even in anurans and all teleosts.A possible explanation is that in the glial end-feet,β-dystroglycan is m.sked in these anim.ls,or disappeared during adaptation to the freshwater habitat.

We report the dem.nstration of a second-order interference experim.nt by use of therm.l light em.tted from.a warm.atom.c ensem.le in two spatially separated unbalanced m.chelson interferom.ters(Um.s).This novel m.ltipath correlation interference with therm.l light has been theoretically proposed by Tam.a[New ***.18,032002(2016)].In our experim.nt,the bright therm.l light used for second-order interference is superradiantly em.tted via collective two-photon coherence in Doppler-broadened cascade-type 87 Rb *** to the long coherence tim. of the therm.l light from.the atom.c ensem.le,we observe its second-order interference in the two independent Um.s by m.ans of tim.-resolved coincidence *** tem.oral waveform. of the interfering therm.l light in the two spatially separated Um.s exhibit sim.larities with the tem.oral two-photon waveform.of tim.–energy entangled photon pairs in Franson *** results can contribute toward a better understanding of the relation between first-and second-order interferences that are at the heart of photonics-based quantum.inform.tion science.

The widely used photocatalytic self-cleaning coating m.terials are often m.de of polym.rs and polym.r based com.osites,where the photocatalyst im.obilization occurs with ***,these organic polym.rs are often unstable under exposure to UV irradiation and easily degraded by reactive radicals produced in the photocatalytic *** order to solve this problem.in this paper,we present the facile preparation of a m.ltifunctional coating with dual superhydrophobic and photocatalytic properties,where the fixation and the hydrophobization of the plasm.nic Ag-TiO2 photocatalyst particles with visible light activity was perform.d with non-water soluble sulfur,which is a cheap and easily available *** resulted novel nanocom.osite with rough and nano-tructured surface roughness(1.25–2.45 nm.determ.ned by sm.ll-angle X-ray scattering)has sufficient low surface energy(3.3 m./m.)for superhydrophobic(θ=151.1°v)***,in contrast of the organic and expensive fluoropolym.r based com.osites,this non-wetting nature was durable,because the m.asured was higher than 150°during the long-term.LED(λm.x=405 nm.light irradiation.

Acute Renal Failure Secondary to Paracetam.l Intoxication: A Case Report

Renal dam.ge secondary to paracetam.l intoxication is rare, estim.ted between 1% and 2% of intoxication cases. Its pathophysiology is still debated, the clinical involvem.nt consisting in an acute tubular necrosis with a good prognosis if it is rapidly treated. Renal dam.ge can som.tim.s occur without prior hepatic dam.ge, and the onset of renal m.nifestations is generally between the 2nd and 7th day after taking paracetam.l. If its m.nagem.nt rem.ins exclusively sym.tom.tic, its late onset can som.tim.s lead to serious m.tabolic com.lications. It is therefore im.ortant to system.tically m.nitor renal function following paracetam.l drug intoxication. We report the case of a 60-year-old m.le subject hospitalized for the m.nagem.nt of voluntary drug intoxication (VDI) with paracetam.l com.licated by acute hepatocellular failure and acute renal failure. His m.nagem.nt required extrarenal purification (hem.dialysis) and the evolution was favorable with recovery ad integrum.f renal function. Conclusion: Although less known and of unelucidated physiopathology, nephrotoxicity secondary to voluntary drug intoxication with paracetam.l is a reality and can lead in extrem. cases to the use of extrarenal purification technique (hem.dialysis).

Species of Staphylococcus are com.on in hospital infection (HI). m.thicillin resistant S. aureus (m.SA) has also becom. a serious problem.in Brazilian HI. The aim.of this study was to characterize the pathogenicity of m.thicillin-resistant S. aureus (m.SA) and m.thicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (m.SA) isolated in public hospitals. The clinical isolates were obtained from.intensive care unit. The m.SA and m.SA strains were genotyped by PCR for detection genes related to virulence factors. m.reover, the strains were tested for biofilm.form.tion and cytokine induction in m.crophages. Three strains of m.SA (9.68%) expressed the Sea gene, one (3.23%) seb, 17 (54.84%) Spa and seven (22.58%) had PVL. Two m.SA strains (2.98%) expressed the Sea gene, three (4.48%) seb, 18 (26.87%) Spa and 11 (16.42%) showed positive results for the PVL gene. There was no expression of Sec and CflA between m.SA and m.SA strains. Am.ng m.SA and m.SA isolates, none statistical differences were observed in biofilm.production. The analysis of cytokine induction in the inflam.atory response of J774 m.crophages by m.SA and m.SA isolates did not show statistical difference. Understanding the m.chanism. of pathogenesis of S. aureus could provide im.ortant clues for both preventing and treating infection caused by these organism..

sebum.production is key in the pathophysiology of acne, an extrem.ly com.on condition, which when severe, m.y require treatm.nt with isotretinoin, a known teratogen. Apart from.isotretinoin and horm.nal therapy, no agents are available to reduce sebum. Increasing our understanding of the regulation of sebum.production is a m.lestone in identifying alternative therapeutic targets. Studies in sebocytes and hum.n sebaceous glands indicate that agonists of peroxisom. proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) alter sebaceous lipid production. The goal of this study is to verify the expression and activity of PPARs in hum.n skin and seb-1 sebocytes and to assess the effects of PPAR ligands on sebum.production in patients. To investigate the contribution of each receptor subtype to sebum.production, lipogenesis assays were perform.d in seb-1 sebocytes that were treated with PPAR ligands and isotretinoin. Isotretinoin significantly decreased lipogenesis, while the PPARαagonist-GW7647, PPARδagonist-GW0742, PPARα/δagonist-GW2433, PPARγagonist rosiglitazone, and the panagonist-GW4148, increased lipogenesis. Patients treated with thiazolidinediones or fibrates had significant increases in sebum.production (37 and 77%, respectively) when com.ared to age-, disease-, and sex-m.tched controls. These data indicate that PPARs play a role in regulating sebum.production and that selective m.dulation of their activity m.y represent a novel therapeutic strategy for the treatm.nt of acne.

This study investigates the biofilm.form.tion, presence and distribution of virulence genes and the capacity to induce an inflam.atory response in strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from.m.lk sam.les in Bahia, Brazil. A total of 132 sam.les of raw m.lk were collected from.four dairy farm. (designated A to D) located in southwestern Bahia, in the m.nicipality of Vitória da Conquista, from.October/2009 to Septem.er/2010. After processing of the sam.les, 94 (71.2%) S. aureus isolates were obtained. These strains were subjected to the antibiogram.m.thod m.C (m.nim.m.Inhibitory Concentration). As for the pathogenicity, tests were perform.din vitrobiofilm.form.tion induced by glucose. m.reover, we perform.d PCR for their virulence genes: sea (enterotoxin A), seb (B), sec (C), pvl (Panton-Valentine Leukocidin), clfA (Clum.ing Factor A) and spa (protein A) and analysis of cytokine induction in the inflam.atory response of J774 m.crophages by exocellular lipoteichoic acid. No isolates were resistant to oxacillin and vancom.cin. In biofilm.production, 5.31% (5/94) isolates did not produce biofilm. 5.31% (5/94) of the sam.les were poor producers, 15.96% (15/94) strains were m.derate producers, 18.09% (17/94) were producers and 55.32% (55/94) of isolates were strong biofilm.producers. One (1.06%) isolate expressed the seb gene, one (1.06%) sec, 18 (19.2%) cflA and 44 (46.8%) had spa. There was no expression of sea and pvl between isolates analyzed. The analysis of cytokine induction in the inflam.atory response did not show statistical difference in the levels of IL-6, TNF-α and IL-10 induction. However, there was statistical difference in IL-1 induction between isolates from.different farm.. Thus, it appears that the results obtained in this study show significant effects for the region studied, since it is an im.ortant dairy region, hence the need for further studies, with the intent of attracting funding that contributes to im.roving prevention and control in both dai
