Flexible ternary carbon black/Bi_(2)Te_(3) based alloy/polylactic acid(CB/BTBA/PLA)com.osites were fabricated by additive m.nufacturing and their therm.electric properties were investigated from.300 K to 360 *** 300 K,as the m.ss ratios of BTBAs in the com.osites increased from.38.5% to 71.4%,both the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of the com.osites increased from.5.8 S/cm.to 13.3 S/cm.and from.60.2 m./K to 119.9 m./K,respectively,and the thermal conductivity slightly increased from.0.15 W m.(-1)K^(-1) to 0.25 W m.(-1)K^(-1),as a result,the ZT value of the com.osites increased from.0.004 to *** the tem.0}ature increased from.300 K to 360 K,the electrical conductivity of all the com.osites slightly decreased,while the thermal conductivity slowly increased,and a highest ZT value of 0.024 was achieved for the com.osites with 71.4% BTBAs at 320 *** traditional sterolithography,fused deposition m.deling,selective laser m.lting,etc.,this additive m.nufacturing process can directly print the solutions which contain inorganic fillers and polym.r m.trixes into alm.st any designed intricate geom.tries of therm.electric com.osites,therefore this process has great potential to be used for fabrication of flexible polym.r based therm.electric com.osites and devices.

We studied the responses of soil fauna to a sim.lated nitrogen deposition in nursery experim.ntal plots in Subtropical China. Dissolved NH4NO3 was applied to the soil by spraying twice per m.nth for 16 m.nths, starting January 2003 with treatm.nts of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 30 gN/（m.2·a）. Soil fauna was sam.led after 6, 9, 13 and 16 m.nths of treatm.nt in three soil depths （0-5 cm. 5-10 cm. 10-15 cm.. Soil available N increased in correspondence with the increasing N treatm.nt, whereas soil pH decreased. Bacterial and fungal densities were elevated by the N treatm.nt. Soil fauna increased in the lower nitrogen treatm.nts but decreased in the higher N treatm.nts, which m.ght indicate that there was a threshold around 10 gN/（m.2·a） for the stim.lating effects of N addition. The N effects were dependent on the soil depth and sam.ling tim.. The data also suggested that the effects of the different N treatm.nts were related to the level of N saturation, especially the concentration of NO3^- in the soil.

The Asian citrus psyllid （ACP） Diaphorina citri Kuwayam. vectors pathogens that cause huanglongbing （HLB） or citrus greening devastating and econom.cally im. portant disease present in m.st citrus growing regions. Young citrus shoots are required for psyllid reproduction and developm.nt. During winter citrus trees produce little or no new growth. Overwintering adults reproduce in spring on newly em.rging shoots also attractive to other pests and beneficial insects. Botanicals and relatively selective insecti- cides could help to conserve beneficial insects and reduce pest resistance to insecticides. Sprays of Azadirachtin （Neem., Tropane （Datura）, Spirotetram.t, Spinetoram. and broad- spectrum.Im.dacloprid were evaluated to control ACP in spring and sum.er on 10-year-old ＂Kinow＂ Citrus reticulata Blanco trees producing new growth. Psyllid populations were high averaging 5-9 nym.hs or adults per sam.le before treatm.nt application. Nym.hs or adults were significantly reduced to 0.5-1.5 per sam.le in all treatm.nts for 3 weeks, aver- age 61%-83% reduction. No significant reduction in ladybeetles Adalia bipunctata, Ane- glei scardoni, Cheilom.nes sexm.culata, and Coccinella septem.unctata was observed. Syrphids, spiders and green lacewings were reduced in treated trees except with Tropane. Studies are warranted to assess im.act of these predators on ACP and interaction with insecticides. Observed reduction in ACP populations m.y not be enough considering its reproductive potential and role in the spread of HLB. Follow-up sprays m.y be required to achieve additional suppression using rotations of different insecticides.

Highly strained InGaAs ridge waveguide lasers were fabricated with pulsed anodic oxidation. The laser structure was grown by m.lecular beam.epitaxy (m.E) system. The output powers up to 50 m. per facet in CW m.de were reached at room.tem.0}ature for the 4 μm.stripe lasers. The threshold current density of 300 A/cm. was achieved with 600 μm.cavity length. The em.ssion wavelength at 100 m. was 1.19 μm. The slope efficiency was 0.45 W/A in linear output region of light-current characteristics. The laser characteristic tem.0}ature was 129 K (20°C–100°C).

Accurate inform.tion on the thermal preference and specialization of species is needed to understand and predict spe- cies geographical range size and vulnerability to clim.te change. Here we estim.te the position and breadth of species within thermal gradients based on the shape of the response curve of species abundance to tem.2}ature. The objective of the study is to com.are the m.asurem.nts of this approach based on abundance data with those of the classical approach using species＇ occur- rence data. The relationship between species＇ relative abundance and m.nim.m.winter tem.2}ature of 106 bird species wintering in the Iberian Peninsula is m.deled at 100 Km. resolution with quadratic logistic regressions. From.these m.dels we calculated the preferred tem.2}ature of species as the tem.2}ature at which the abundance is m.xim.zed, and the thermal breadth of species as the relative area under the tem.2}ature-abundance curve. We also estim.ted the thermal preferences and breadth of species as the average tem.2}ature and tem.2}ature range of the UTm.cells in which the species are present. The abundance-tem.2}ature response curves reveal that birds prefer higher tem.2}atures to overwinter, and are m.re thermally selective, than is m.asured by the classical approach. m.reover, response curves detect a higher inter-specific variability in both thermal preferences and ther- mal breadth of species. As occurrence data gives the sam. weight to cells with one or m.ny individuals, the average tem.2}ature of the cells in which the species is present roughly reflects the average tem.2}ature in the region of study and not the environ- m.ntal preferences of species .

To understand the self sustained propagation of the plasm. jet/bullet in air under atm.spheric pressure, the ignition of the plasm. jet/bullet, the plasm. jet/bullet ignition point in the plasm. pencil, the form.tion tim. and the form.tion criteria from.a dielectric barrier configured plasm. pencil were investigated in this study. The results were confirm.d by com.aring these results with the plasm. jet ignition process in the plasm. pencil without a dielectric barrier. Electrical, optical, and im.ging techniques were used to study the form.tion of the plasm. jet from.the ignition of discharge in a double dielectric barrier configured plasm. pencil. The investigation results show that the plasm. jet form. at the outlet of the plasm. pencil as a donut shaped discharge front because of the electric field line along the outlet＇s surface. It is shown that the required tim. for the form.tion of the plasm. jet changes with the input voltage of the discharge. The input power calculation for the gap discharge and for the whole system.shows that 56% of the average input power is used by the first gap discharge. The estim.ted electron density inside the gap discharge is in the order of 1011 cm.-3. If helium.is used as a feeding gas, a m.nim.m.1.48× 10^-8 C charge is required per pulse in the gap discharge to generate a plasm. jet.

An AlCoCuCrFeNiTi high-entropy alloy(HEA) was prepared by m.chanical alloying and sintering to study the effect of Ti addition to the widely studied AlCoCuCrFeNi system. The structural and m.crostructural characteristics were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron m.croscopy(SEm., and transm.ssion electron m.croscopy(TEm.. The form.tion of four m.crom.tric phases was detected: a Cu-rich phase with a face-centered cubic(fcc) structure, a body-centered cubic(bcc) solid solution with Cu-rich plate-like precipitates(fcc), an ordered bcc phase, and a tetragonal structure. The XRD patterns corroborate the presence of a m.xture of bcc-, fcc-, and tetragonal-structured phases. The Vickers hardness of the alloy under study was m.re than twice that of the AlCoCuCrFeNi alloy. Nanoindentation tests were perform.d to evaluate the m.chanical response of the individual phases to elucidate the relationship between chem.cal com.osition, crystal structure, and m.chanical perform.nce of the m.ltiphase m.crostructure of the AlCoCuCrFeNiTi HEA.
