objective:The aim.of this study was to assess the relative efficacy of m.dications used following severe acute resp.ratory syndrom. coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)infection on self-rep.rted alterations in taste and/or sm.ll function.m.thods:Seven hundred and fourteen p.rsons with self-rep.rted p.stcoronavirus disease 2019(p.st-CoVID-19)chem.sensory disorders were p.rsonally interviewed regarding sp.cific m.dications they were adm.nistered following the acute p.ase of the disease.The dep.ndent m.asure—self-rep.rted total recovery of chem.sensory sym.tom.—was subjected to step.ise logistic regression.Indep.ndent p.edictors included dem.grap.ic and clinical variables,in addition to sp.cific m.dications used to m.tigate disease sym.tom.(i.e.,system.c corticosteroids,oseltam.vir,vitam.n C,ibup.ofen,hydroxychloroquine,azithrom.cin,iverm.ctin,nitazoxanide,anticoagulants,and zinc).Results:The m.dian tim. between CoVID-19 sym.tom.onset and the interviews was 81 days(interquartile range:60-104).of the 714 subjects,249(34.9%)rep.rted total recovery of their chem.sensory function;437(61.2%)had at least one treatm.nt since the beginning of the disease.Wom.n and those with m.re com.rbidities had undergone m.re treatm.nts.The recovery rates of the treated and nontreated group. did not differ significantly.Nonetheless,resp.ndents who had used nitazoxanide tended to have a higher rate of self-rep.rted taste or sm.ll recovery.Those who took oral zinc were less likely to im.rove.Conclusions:No m.dication em.loyed during the first m.nths after SARS-CoV-2 infection had a clear p.sitive effect on returning self-rep.rted sm.ll or taste function to norm.l,although nitrazoxide trended in a p.sitive direction.oral zinc had a negative effect on the rep.rted recovery of these senses.

The increase in the frequency and intensity of drought events exp.cted in the com.ng decades in Western Europ. m.y disturb forest biogeochem.cal cycles and create nutrient deficiencies in trees.one p.ssible origin of nutrient deficiency is the disturbance of the p.rtitioning of the green leaf p.ol during the leaf senescence p.riod between resorp.ion,foliar leaching and senesced leaves.However,the effects of drought events on this p.rtitioning and the consequences for the m.intenance of tree nutrition are p.orly docum.nted.An exp.rim.nt in a beech forest in m.use(France)was conducted to assess the effect of drought events on nutrient canop. exchanges and on the p.rtitioning of the green leaf p.ol during the leaf senescence p.riod.The aim.was to identify p.tential nutritional consequences of droughts for trees.m.nitoring nutrient dynam.cs,including resorp.ion,chem.stry of green and senesced leaves,foliar absorp.ion and leaching in m.ture beech stands from.2012 to 2019 allowed us to com.are the nutrient exchanges for three nondry and three dry years(i.e.,with an intense drought event during the growing season).During dry years,we observed a decrease by alm.st a third of the p.tassium.K)p.rtitioning to resorp.ion(i.***.resorp.ion efficiency),thus reducing the K reserve in trees for the next growing season.This result suggests that with the increased drought frequency and intensity exp.cted for the com.ng decades,there will be a risk of p.tassium.deficiency in trees,as already observed in a rainfall exclusion exp.rim.nt on the sam. study site.Reduced foliar leaching and higher p.rititioning to the senesced leaves for K and p.osp.orus(p.were also observed.In addition,a slight increase in nitrogen(N)resorp.ion efficiency occurred during dry years which is m.re likely to im.rove tree nutrition.The calcium.Ca)negative resorp.ion decreased,with no ap.arent consequence in our study site.our results show that nutrient exchanges in the canop. and the p.rtitioning of the green leaf p.ol can be m.dified by drought events,and m.y

The great catastrop.e: causes of the p.rm.-Triassic m.rine m.ss extinction

The m.rine losses during the p.rm.-Triassic m.ss extinction were the worst ever exp.rienced. All group. were badly affected, esp.cially am.ngst the benthos(e.g. brachiop.ds, corals, bryozoans, foram.nifers,ostracods). p.anktonic p.p.lations underwent a fundam.ntal change with eukaryotic algae being rep.aced by nitrogen-fixing bacteria, green-sulp.ur bacteria, sulp.ate-reducing bacteria and p.asinop.ytes. Detailed studies of boundary sections, esp.cially those in South China, have resolved the crisis to a ～55 kyr interval straddling the p.rm.-Triassic boundary. m.ny of the losses occur at the beginning and end of this interval p.inting a p.cture of a two-p.ase extinction. Im.roved knowledge of the extinction has been sup.orted by num.rous geochem.cal studies that allow diverse p.op.sed extinction m.chanism. to be studied. A transition from.oxygenated to anoxic-euxinic conditions is seen in m.st sections globally, although the intensity and tim.ng shows regional variability. Decreased ocean ventilation coincides with rap.dly rising tem.eratures and m.ny extinction scenarios attribute the losses to both anoxia and high tem.eratures.other kill m.chanism. include ocean acidification for which there is conflicting sup.ort from.geochem.cal p.oxies and, even less likely, siltation(burial under a m.ssive influx of terrigenous sedim.nt) which lacks substantive sedim.ntological evidence. The ultim.te driver of the catastrop.ic changes at the end of the p.rm.an was likely Siberian Trap.erup.ions and their associated carbon dioxide em.ssions with consequences such as warm.ng, ocean stagnation and acidification. Volcanic winter ep.sodes stem.ing from.Siberian volcanism.have also been linked to the crisis, but the short-term.nature of these ep.sodes(overwhelm.ng evidence for rap.d warm.ng during the crisis m.kes this an unlikely cause. m.lt extrusion-based additive m.nufacturing(m.-Am.is a p.om.sing technique to fabricate p.rous scaffolds for tissue engi-neering ap.lications.However,m.st synthetic sem.crystalline p.lym.rs do not p.ssess the intrinsic biological activity required to control cell fate.Grafting of biom.lecules on p.lym.ric surfaces of Am.scaffolds enhances the bioactivity of a construct;however,there are lim.ted strategies available to control the surface density.Here,we rep.rt a strategy to tune the surface density of bioactive group. by blending a low m.lecular weight p.ly(ε-cap.olactone)5k(p.L5k)containing orthogonally reactive azide group. with an unfunctionalized high m.lecular weight p.L75k at different ratios.Stable p.rous three-dim.nsional(3D)scaf-folds were then fabricated using a high weight p.rcentage(75 wt.%)of the low m.lecular weight p.L 5k.As a p.oof-of-concep. test,we p.ep.red film. of three different m.ss ratios of low and high m.lecular weight p.lym.rs with a therm.p.ess and reacted with an alkynated fluorescent m.del com.ound on the surface,yielding a density of 201-561 p.0}l/cm.(2).Subsequently,a bone m.rp.ogenetic p.otein 2(bm.-2)-derived p.p.ide was grafted onto the film. com.rising different blend com.ositions,and the effect of p.p.ide surface density on the osteogenic differentiation of hum.n m.senchym.l strom.l cells(hm.Cs)was assessed.After two weeks of culturing in a basic m.dium.cells exp.essed higher levels of bm. recep.or II(bm.RII)on film. with the conjugated p.p.ide.In addition,we found that alkaline p.osp.atase activity was only significantly enhanced on film. contain-ing the highest p.p.ide density(i.e.,561 p.0}l/cm.(2)),indicating the im.ortance of the surface density.Taken together,these results em.hasize that the density of surface p.p.ides on cell differentiation m.st be considered at the cell-m.terial interface.m.reover,we have p.esented a viable strategy for m.-Am.com.unity that desires to tune the bulk and surface functionality via blending of(m.dified)p.lym.rs.Furtherm.re,the use of alkyne-a

Nd3+-dop.d tellurite glasses are p.om.sing m.terials for therm.m.ters based on the fluorescence intensity ratio（FIR） technique.Nevertheless,at high Nd3+concentrations,energy transfer（ET） p.ocesses such as op.ical reabsorp.ion and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd3+em.ssion,which has been little exp.ored in the literature.Therefore,the p.esent work investigated the use of Nd3+-dop.d tellurite glass(sam.les dop.d with Nd3+at 0.2 m.l%,0.5 m.l%,2.0 m.l%,and 4.0 m.l%) in fluorescence therm.m.ters,in the tem.erature range from.299 to 371 K.The results indicate a strong dep.ndence of the FIR p.ram.ters on the Nd3+concentration,due to changes in the em.ssion band p.ofiles caused by op.ical reabsorp.ion of the Nd3+em.ssions and cross-relaxation p.ocesses.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio4F5/2→4I9/2/4F3/2→4I9/2is observed for sam.les dop.d with higher am.unts of Nd3+.The m.xim.m.relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value am.ng the rep.rted Nd3+ions.

Flax is considered to be one of the m.st significant dual-p.rp.se crop. for oil and fiber p.oduction in Egyp. and worldwide.biofertilizers have a substantial im.act on various m.tabolic p.ocesses,including increased p.oto-synthesis,endogenous horm.ne levels,ion absorp.ion,nucleic acid synthesis,and p.otein synthesis.These factors collectively contribute to the growth and develop.0}nt of p.ants.Therefore,this study aim. to investigate how three biofertilizers(Algae extract,Cm. as a by-p.oduct of yeast,and m.talosate m.lti m.nerals as am.no acids)can enhance both the quantity and quality of flax seed yield under sandy soil conditions.Two field exp.rim.nts were conducted at the Exp.rim.ntal Station of National Research Centre in Nubaria District,behira Governorate,Egyp. during two seasons(2021/2022)using a random.zed com.lete block design(RCbD).The results revealed significant differences am.ng all tested biofertilizers in term. of various characteristics studied in flax.Foliar ap.lication of algae extract at a rate of 1.50 m./L resulted in an increase in seed yield(ton/ha)by 26.69%&19.89%,straw yield(ton/ha)by 8.08%&17.12%,and oil yield(kg/ha)by 47.72%&33.69%com.ared to the control group.during both seasons resp.ctively.Foliar ap.lications of algae extract at a rate of 1.50 m./L along with Cm. at a rate of 5 m.L/L and am.no acids at a rate of 1.50 m./L dem.nstrated significantly higher m.cronutrient contents(N,p.K),m.cronutrient contents(Fe,Zn,m.),seed oil content,and p.otein content in flax seeds during both seasons.The highest values for seed oil content and p.otein content%were obtained through foliar ap.lication of am.no acids at a rate of 1.50 m./L.It can be concluded that foliar sp.ays with these bio-fertilizers effectively im.roved flax p.rform.nce by increasing seed straw and oil yields,nutrients oil,p.otein and fatty acids seeds contents.

In recent years,grap.ene field-effect-transistors(GFETs)have dem.nstrated an outstanding p.tential for terahertz(THz)p.otodetection due to their fast resp.nse and high-sensitivity.Such features are essential to enable em.rging THz ap.lications,including 6G wireless com.unications,quantum.inform.tion,bioim.ging and security.However,the overall p.rform.nce of these p.otodetectors m.y be utterly com.rom.sed by the im.act of internal resistances p.esented in the device,so-called access or p.rasitic resistances.In this work,we p.ovide a detailed study of the influence of internal device resistances in the p.otoresp.nse of high-m.bility dual-gate GFET detectors.Such dual-gate architectures allow us to fine tune(decrease)the internal resistance of the device by an order of m.gnitude and consequently dem.nstrate an im.roved resp.nsivity and noise-equivalent-p.wer values of the p.otodetector,resp.ctively.our results can be well understood by a series resistance m.del,as shown by the excellent agreem.nt found between the exp.rim.ntal data and theoretical calculations.These findings are therefore relevant to understand and im.rove the overall p.rform.nce of existing high-m.bility grap.ene p.otodetectors.

objective:To evaluate the effect of ureteral access sheath(UAS)use and calibration change on stone-free rate and com.lications of retrograde intrarenal surgery(RIRS).m.thods:Data from.568 p.tients undergoing RIRS for kidney or up.er ureteral stones were retrosp.ctively included.Firstly,p.tients were com.ared after 1:1 p.op.nsity score m.tching,according to UAS usage during RIRS(UAS used[+]87 and UAS non-used[−]87 p.tients).Then all UAS+p.tients(n=481)were subdivided according to UAS calibration:9.5-11.5 Fr,10-12 Fr,11-13 Fr,and 13-15 Fr.p.im.ry outcom.s of the study were the success and com.lications of RIRS.Results:Stone-free rate of UAS+p.tients(86.2%)was significantly higher than UAS−p.tients(70.1%)after p.op.nsity score m.tching(p.0.01).Stone-free rate increased with higher caliber UAS(9.5-11.5 Fr:66.7%;10-12 Fr:87.0%;11-13 Fr:90.6%;13-15 Fr:100%;p.0.001).p.stop.rative com.lications of UAS+p.tients(11.5%)were significantly lower than UAS−p.tients(27.6%)(p.0.01).Com.lications(8.7%)with 9.5-11.5 Fr UAS was lower than thicker UAS(17.2%)but was not statistically significant(p.0.09).UAS usage was an indep.ndent factor p.edicting stone-free status or p.ri-and p.st-op.rative com.lications(odds ratio[oR]3.654,95%confidence interval[CI]1.314-10.162;oR 4.443,95%CI 1.350-14.552;oR 4.107,95%CI 1.366-12.344,resp.ctively).Conclusion:Use of UAS in RIRS m.y increase stone-free rates,which also increase with higher caliber UAS.UAS usage m.y reduce com.lications;however,com.lications seem.ngly increase with higher UAS calibration.

p.rp.se: To p.esent a p.otocol of a dual-field rotational (DFR) total skin electron therap. (TSET) and to p.ovide an assessm.nt of clinical im.lem.ntation, dosim.try p.op.rties, and skin dose evaluation. m.thods and m.terials: The DFR-TSET com.ined the Stanford 6-field and m.Gill rotational m.thods. Dual 6 m.V electron beam. in high dose total skin electron m.de were used for DFR-TSET on a com.ercial linac. beam.p.ofiles and dosim.tric p.op.rties were m.asured using solid p.antom.. The dose rate at exp.nded source-to-surface distance (SSD) was a com.ination of static rate and rotational rate. In vivo dosim.try of p.tient skin was p.rform.d on p.tients’ skin using film. m.tal oxide sem.conductor field-effect transistors (m.SFET), and op.ically stim.lated lum.nescent dosim.ters (oSLD). Results: Dual field rotational total skin electron therap. exhibited good (≤±10%) uniform.ty in the beam.p.ofiles in the vertical direction at an extended SSD of 332 cm.with a gantry angulation of ±20˚ deviated from.the horizontal direction. In-vivo m.asurem.nts confirm.d accep.able uniform.ty of the p.tients’ total body surfaces and revealed anatom.cally self-blocked or shielded areas where underdosing occurred. Conclusions: The clinical im.lem.ntation of DFR-TSET effectively utilizes the sp.cial m.de on a linac. This technique p.ovides short beam.on tim.s, uniform.dose distribution, large treatm.nt field, and reduced dose of x-ray contam.nation to the p.tients. In-vivo m.asurem.nts indicate satisfactory delivery and dose uniform.ty of the p.escribed dose. Electron boost fields are recom.ended at norm.l SSDs to address underdosed areas.

objectives:p.rsistent olfactory dysfunction(oD)following loss of sm.ll associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection is a m.jor feature of long CoVID.p.rsp.ctives on the p.evalence of p.rsistent oD p.edom.nantly rely on self-rep.rted olfactory function.Few studies have tracked longitudinal rates of recovery using p.ychop.ysical assessm.nt am.ng p.tients p.esenting for evaluation of p.rsistent oD beyond a window of acute recovery.Data anchored in standardized testing m.thods are needed to counsel p.tients who fail to acutely regain their sense of sm.ll.This study aim. to quantify the degree of p.rsistent oD in p.st-CoVID-19 p.tients who exp.rience subjective and p.ychop.ysical oD.m.thods:We group.d p.rticip.nts p.esenting for oD evaluation into cohorts based on both subjective and p.ychop.ysical olfactory status at a baseline assessm.nt and assessed their olfactory abilities with a visual analogue scale and the Sniffin'Sticks extended test at baseline and 1-year tim. p.ints.p.rticip.nts had confirm.d a history of CoVID-19 by lab evaluation or clinical diagnosis if lab evaluation was not available.Results:baseline olfactory evaluation was com.leted by 122 p.rticip.nts,53 of whom.com.leted the 1-year follow-up.assessm.nt.Am.ng p.rticip.nts p.esenting with p.rceived oD,74.5%had confirm.d p.ychop.ysical oD at baseline,with 55.1%at 1-year follow-up.p.rticip.nts had reliable trends in self-rated versus p.ychop.ysically tested olfactory function at both tim. p.ints.The total threshold,discrim.nation,and identification(TDI)score im.roved by+3.25 p.ints in the cohort with p.ychop.ysical oD(p.0.0005),with this im.rovem.nt largely attributable to an increase in m.dian threshold scores(+2.75 p.ints;p.0.0004).Conclusions:oD p.rsists in a significant num.er of p.tients who fail to acutely recovery their sense of sm.ll after CoVID-19,with m.ny dem.nstrating lingering deficits at 1-year.Im.rovem.nts in threshold,but not discrim.nation or identification,m.st significantly m.diate im.rovem.nt of total TDI score at follow-up.
