b.ckground and Ob.ective: Chronic heavy alcohol consum.tion and daily cigarette sm.king are the m.st prevalent sub.tance use prob.em. in the U.S., including Veterans. Excessive alcohol use causes neurocognitive and b.havioral deficits that can b. linked to neurodegeneration. Sim.larly, preclinical and clinical data suggest that sm.king also leads to b.ain atrophy. This study exam.nes the differential and additive effects of alcohol and cigarette sm.ke (CS) exposures on cognitive-b.havioral function. m.thods: A 4-way experim.ntal m.del of chronic alcohol and CS exposures was generated using 4-week-old m.le and fem.le Long Evans rats that were pair-fed with Lieb.r-deCarli isocaloric liquid diets containing 0% or 24% ethanol for 9 weeks. Half of the rats in the control and ethanol groups were exposed to CS for 4 hours/day and 4 days/week for 9 weeks. All rats were sub.ected to m.rris Water m.ze, Open Field, and Novel Ob.ect Recognition testing in the last experim.ntal week. Results: Chronic alcohol exposure im.aired spatial learning as shown b. significantly increased latency to locate the platform. and it caused anxiety-like b.havior m.rked b. the significantly reduced percentage of entries to the center of the arena. Chronic CS exposure im.aired recognition m.m.ry as suggested b. significantly less tim. spent at the novel ob.ect. Com.ined exposures to alcohol and CS did not show any significant additive or interactive effect on cognitive-b.havioral function. Conclusion: Chronic alcohol exposure was the m.in driver of spatial learning, while the effect of secondhand CS exposure was not rob.st. Future studies need to m.m.c direct CS exposure effects in hum.ns.

Im.unoglob.lins （Igs） are known to b. synthesized and secreted only b. b.lym.hocytes. Class switch recom.ination （CSR） is a key event that enab.es b.cells to express Igs, and one of the crucial steps for CSR initiation is the germ.ine transcription of Iggenes. Surprisingly, recent studies have dem.nstrated that the Iggenes are also expressed in som. epithelial cancer cells; however, the m.chanism. underlying how cancer cells initiate CSR and express Igs are still unknown. In this study, we confirm.d that the Ig la I prom.ter in cancer cell lines was activated b. the Ets- 1 transcription factor, and the activity of the Ig la I prom.ter and ig lal-C^l germ.ine transcription were attenuated after knockdown of Ets-1 b. specific sm.ll interfering RNAs （siRNA）. Furtherm.re, the expression of Ets-1 and Iga heavy chain in cancer cells was dose dependently upregulated b. TGF-I^I. These results indicate that activation of the Ig lal prom.ter b. the transcriotion factor Ets-1 is a critical Dathwav and orovides a novel m.chanism.for le exoression in non-b.cell cancers.

Spectroscopic study of glob.lar clusters in the halo of m.1 with the Xinglong 2.16 m.telescope Ⅱ: dynam.cs, m.tallicity and age

In Paper I, we perform.d spectroscopic ob.ervations on 11 confirm.d glob. ular clusters （GCs） in m.1 with the Xinglong 2.16 m.telescope. We m.inly focused on the fitting m.thod and the m.tallicity gradient for the m.1 GC sam.le. Here, we analyze and further discuss the dynam.cs, m.tallicity and age, and their distrib.tions, as well as the relationships b.tween these param.ters. In our work, eight m.re con- firm.d GCs in the halo of m.1 were ob.erved, m.st of which lack previous spectro- scopic inform.tion. These star clusters are located far from.the galactic center at a projected radius of ~ 14 to ~ 117 kpc, which is m.re spatially extended than that in the previous work. Firstly, we m.asured the Lick ab.orption-line indices and the ra- dial velocities. Then the ages and m.tallicity values of [Fe/H] and [a/Fe] were fitted b. com.aring the ob.erved spectral feature indices and the Single Stellar Population m.del of Thom.s et al. in the Cassisi and Padova stellar evolutionary tracks, respec- tively. Our results show that m.st of the star clusters in our sam.le are older than 10 Gyr except b.90, which is ~ 5.5 Gyr, and m.st of them.are m.tal-poor with m.tallicity [Fe/H] 〈 - 1, suggesting that these clusters were b.rn at the early stage of the galaxy＇s form.tion. We find that the m.tallicity gradient for the outer halo clusters with rp 〉 25 kpc m.y have an insignificant slope of -0.005 ＋ 0.005 dex kpc-1 and if the outliers G001 and H11 are excluded, the slope does not change significantly, with a value of -0.002 ~ 0.003 dex kpc-1. We also find that the m.tallicity is not a function of age for the GCs with age 〈 7 Gyr, b.t for the old GCs with age 〉 7 Gyr, there seem. to b. a trend that the older ones have lower m.tallicity. Additionally, we plot m.tallicity distrib.tions with the largest sam.le of m.1 GCs so far and show the b.m.dality is not significant, and the num.er of m.tal-poor and m.tal-rich groups b.- com.s com.arab.e. In contrast, several prophylactic vaccine options for Neisseria m.ningitidis m.ningitis do exist. Forkhead b.x protein 3(FoxP 3), interleukin 17A(IL-17A), and RORC m.RNA levels were assessed b. real-tim. PCR, while interleukin-10(IL-10) and IL-17 A levels were detected with a Cytom.tric b.ads *** In peripheral b.ood m.nocytes(Pb.0}), m.senteric lym.hnode(m.N), lam.na propria of jejunum.LPJ) and LPC from.UC m.ce, Treg cell num.ers were increased(P m. Fox P3 m.RNA levels in CD4+CD45ra-Fox P3 low cells decreased in Pb.0}, m.N, LPJ, and LPC in UC m.ce, while IL-17 A and RORC m. NA increased.
