The experim.ntal.anal.sis takes too m.ch tim.-consum.ng process and requires considerabl. effort, whil., the Artificial.Neural.Network (ANN) al.orithm. are sim.l., affordabl., and fast, and they al.ow us to m.ke a rel.vant anal.sis in establ.shing an appropriate rel.tionship between the input and output param.ters. This paper deal. with the use of back-propagation ANN al.orithm. for the experim.ntal.data of heat transfer coefficient, Nussel. num.er, and friction factor of water-based Fe 3 O 4 -TiO 2 m.gnetic hybrid nanofl.ids in a m.ni heat sink under m.gnetic fiel.s. The data considered for the ANN network is at different Reynol.s num.ers (239 to 1874), different vol.m. concentrations (0% to 2.0%), and different m.gnetic fiel.s (250 to 1000 G), respectivel.. Three types of ANN back-propagation al.orithm. l.venberg-m.rquardt (l.0}, Broyden-Fl.tcher-Gol.farb-Shanno Quasi Newton (BFGS), and Variabl. l.arning Rate Gradient Descent (Vl.D) were used to train the heat transfer coefficient, Nussel. num.er, and friction factor data, respectivel.. The ANOVA t -test anal.sis was al.o perform.d to determ.ne the rel.tive accuracy of the three ANN al.orithm.. The Nussel. num.er of 2.0% vol. of Fe 3 O 4 -TiO 2 hybrid nanofl.id is enhanced by 38.16% without a m.gnetic fiel., and it is further enhanced by 88.93% with the m.gnetic fiel. of 1000 Gauss at a Reynol.s num.er of 1874, with respect to the base fl.id. A total.of 126 datasets of heat transfer coefficient, Nussel. num.er, and friction factor were used as input and output data. The three ANN al.orithm. of l.0} BFGS, and Vl.D, have shown good acceptance with the experim.ntal.data with root-m.an-square errors of 0.34883, 0.25341, and 1.0202 with correl.tion coefficients (R 2 ) of 0.99954, 0.9967, and 0.94501, respectivel., for the Nussel. num.er data. m.reover, the three ANN al.orithm. predict root-m.an-square errors of 0.001488, 0.005041, and 0.006924 with correl.tion coefficients (R 2 ) of 0.99982, 0.99976, and 0.99486, respect

Assessm.nt of the heartwood contribution to carbon accum.l.tion in Pinus syl.estris l. trees under different forest site conditions

Background: The heartwood (HW) proportion in the trunk of m.ture trees is an im.ortant characteristic not onl. for wood qual.ty but al.o for assessing the rol. of forests in carbon sequestration. We have for the first tim. studied the proportion of HW in the trunk and the distribution of carbon and extractives in sapwood (SW) and HW of 70-80 year ol. Pinus syl.estris l. trees under different growing conditions in the pine forests of North-West Russia. m.thod: We have exam.ned the infl.ence of conditions and tree position in stand (dom.nant, interm.diate and suppressed trees) in the ecol.gical.series: bl.eberry pine forest (Bl.) - l.ngonberry pine forest (l.n) - l.chen pine forest (l.c). We have anal.zed the infl.ence of cl.m.te conditions in the biogeographical.series of l.n: the m.ddl. taiga subzone - the northern taiga subzone - the transition area of the northern taiga subzone and tundra. Resul.s: We found that the carbon concentration in HW was 1.6%-3.4% higher than in SW, and the difference depended on growing conditions. carbon concentration in HW increased with a decrease in stand productivity (Bl.-l.n-l.c). In m.dium.productive stands, the carbon concentration in SW was higher in interm.diate and supressed trees com.ared to dom.nant trees. In the series from.south to north, carbon concentration in HW increased by up to 2%, whil. in SW, it rose by 2.7%-3.8%. concl.sions: Our resul.s once again em.hasized the need for an em.irical.assessm.nt of the accurate carbon content in aboveground wood biom.ss, incl.ding various forest growing conditions, to better understand the rol. of boreal.forests in carbon storage.

A note on the num.rical.sim.l.tions of fl.w past a wavy square-section cyl.nder

The fl.w past a square-section cyl.nder with a geom.tric disturbance is investigated by num.rical.sim.l.tions. The extra term., due to the introduction of m.pping transform.tion sim.l.ting the effect of disturbance into the transform.d Navier-Stokes equations, are correctl. derived, and the incorrect ones in the previous l.terature are pointed out and anal.zed. Furtherm.re, the rel.tionship between the vorticity, especial.y on the cyl.nder surface, and the disturbance is derived and expl.ined theoretical.y. The com.utations are perform.d at two Reynol.s num.ers of 100 and 180 and three am.l.tudes of waviness of 0.006, 0.025 and 0.167 with another aim.to expl.re the effects of different Reynol.s num.ers and disturbance on the vortex dynam.cs in the wake and forces on the body. Num.rical.resul.s have shown that, at the m.l. waviness of 0.025, the Kairm.in vortex shedding is suppressed com.l.tel. for Re = 100, whil. the forced vortex disl.cation is appeared in the near wake at the Reynol.s num.er of 180. The drag reduction is up to 21.6% at Re = 100 and 25.7% at Re = 180 for the high waviness of 0.167 com.ared with the non-wavy cyl.nder. The l.ft and the Strouhal.num.er varied with different Reynol.s num.ers and the wave steepness are al.o obtained.

A variational.form.l.tion of the m.del.is derived, and the existence of a unique weak sol.tion is proved. The proofs are based on the cl.ssical.resul. of nonl.near first order evol.tion inequal.ties, the equations with m.notone operators, and the fixed point argum.nts. Final.y, the continuous dependence of the sol.tion on the friction yiel. l.m.t is studied.
