This study investigated the hot corrosion perform.nce of a dissim.lar weldm.nt of Ni-based superalloy and stainless steel joined by CO2-laser welding and im.roved by high-velocity oxy-fuel(HVOF)coating in a Na2SO4-60wt%V2O5 environm.nt at 900℃.A dissim.lar butt joint of AISI 321 and alloy 825 was fabricated by CO2-laser welding with low heat input after obtaining the optim.m.welding param.ters by bead-on-plate *** m.tallurgical and m.chanical properties of the laser weldm.nt were *** tensile test results indicated the occurrence of fracture in the base m.tal AISI 321 *** HVOF process was em.loyed to coat Ni-20wt%Cr on the *** evaluate the surface m.rphology of the corrosion products form.d on the uncoated and Ni-20wt%Cr-coated weldm.nts,scanning electron m.croscopy(SEm.analysis was ***-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)was used to determ.ne the different elem.nts present on the surface *** existence of oxide phases on the weldm.nts was determ.ned by X-ray diffraction(XRD).The cross sections of the weldm.nts were characterized by SEm.with EDS line m.pping *** results indicated that the Ni-20wt%Cr-coated weldm.nt exhibited superior hot corrosion resistance due to the developm.nt of Cr2O3 and NiCr2O4 protective oxide scales.

m.crostructure and m.chanical properties of sim.lar and dissim.lar m.tal gas tungsten constricted arc welds:m.raging steel to 13-8 m. stainless steel

m.raging steel (250) and 13-8 m. stainless steel plates were joined by gas tungsten constricted arc welding(GTCAW) process in sim.lar and dissim.lar m.tal com.inations using 13-8 m. stainless steel filler wire. The sim.lar and dissim.lar m.tal welds m.de in solutionized condition were subjected to standard post weld hardening treatm.nts direct ageing at 485 ℃, soaking for 31/2 hours followed by air cooling(ageing treatm.nt of m.raging steel) and direct ageing at 510 ℃, soaking for 4 h followed by air cooling(ageing treatm.nt of 13-8 m. stainless steel). The joint characterization studies include m.crostructure exam.nation, m.crohardness survey across the weldm.nts and transverse weld tensile *** and dissim.lar m.tal weldm.nts responded to both the post weld ageing treatm.nt. After post weld aging, increase in yield strength, UTS and slight reduction in % elongation of sim.lar and dissim.lar m.tal were observed. The observed tensile properties were correlated with m.crostructure and hardness distribution across the welds.

The alpine treeline ecotone is an im.ortant com.onent of m.untain ecosystem. of the Nepal Him.laya; it plays a vital role in the livelihood of indigenous people,and provides ecosystem.services. However,the region faces a problem.of paucity of data on treeline characteristics at the regional and landscape scales. Therefore,we used Rem.te Sensing(RS),and Geographic Inform.tion Science(GIS) approaches to investigate cross-scale interactions in the treeline ecotone. Additionally,European Space Agency land cover m.p,International Center for Integrated m.untain Developm.nt(ICIm.D) land cover m.p,ecological m.p of Nepal,and United States Geological Survey Shuttle Radar Topography m.ssion-Digital Elevation m.del were used to analyze treeline pattern at the regional scale. Digital Globe high-resolution satellite im.gery of Barun(eastern Nepal) and m.nang(central Nepal) were used to study treeline patterns at the landscape scale. Treeline elevation ranges from.3300-4300 m.above sea level. Abies spectabilis,Betula utilis,and Pinus wallichiana are the m.in treeline-form.ng species in the Nepal Him.laya. There is an east to west treeline elevationgradient at the regional scale. No slope exposure is observed at the regional scale; however,at the landscape scale,slope exposure is present only in a disturbed area(m.nang). Topography and hum.n disturbance are the m.in treeline controlling factor in Barun and m.nang respectively.

Copper （Cu） is an im.ortant m.neral nutrient found in chloroplasts as a cofactor associated with plastocyanin and Cu/Zn superoxide dism.tase （Cu/ZnSOD）. Superoxide dism.tases are m.tallo-enzym.s found in m.st oxygenic organism. with proposed roles in reducing oxidative stress. Several recent studies in Arabidopsis have shown that m.croRNAs and a SQUAm.SA prom.ter binding protein-like7 （SPL7） transcription factor function to down-regulate the expression of m.ny Cu-proteins, including Cu/ZnSOD in both plastids and the cytosol, during growth on low Cu. Plants contain the Cu Chaperone for SOD （CCS） that delivers Cu to Cu/ZnSODs, and, in Arabidopsis, both cytosolic and plastidic CCS versions are encoded by one gene. In this study, we dem.nstrate that Arabiclopsis CCS transcript levels are regulated by Cu, m.diated by m.croRNA 398 that was not previously predicted to target CCS. The m.croRNA target site is conserved in CCS of Oryza sativa. The data suggest that Cu-regulated m.croRNAs m.y have m.re m.NA targets than was previously predicted. A CCS null m.tant has no m.asurable SOD activity in the chloroplast and cytosol, indicating an absolute requirem.nt for CCS. When the CCS null m.tant was grown on high Cu m.dia, it lacked both Fe superoxide dism.tase （FeSOD） and Cu/ZnSOD activity. However, this did not lead to a visual phenotype and no photosynthetic deficiencies were detected, even after high light stress. These results indicate that Cu/ZnSOD is not a pivotal com.onent of the photosynthetic anti-oxidant system.during growth in laboratory conditions.

A novel approach for additive flee synthesis of nanocrystalline m.gnesium.hydroxide （m.） and m.gnesium.oxide （m.O） using m.crowave technique is herein reported. Use of 13-propanediol as a solvent played m.ltiple roles circum.enting the additional requirem.nt of any extraneous species such as base and other capping agents. The prepared nanom.terials were well characterised using TEm. XRD, EDAX, Ram.n spectroscopy and FT-IR analysis.

Upwelling favourable winds along the Indian coasts were studied using a highresolution(9 km.grid)atm.spheric m.soscale m.del(m.5)reanalysis from.1 to 5 June 2006,off the west coast of India and from.5 to 10 Decem.er 2005,off the east coast of *** winds are verified with satellite winds at two *** wind hind-casts from.the above periods reveal narrow bands(about 10×50 km.of strong winds to the coast and adjacent to the m.jor coastal *** bands,which are sub-grid scale in operational m.dels,were capable of generating local upwelling greater than 10 m.*** the m.an and spatial com.onents of the m.del alongshore wind increase by a factor of 3 to 4 from.the south to the north along the west coast,and by a factor of 2 to 3 from.the north to the south along the east coast of *** field increases will drive enhanced ocean upwelling along the west coast of India,and the new hypothesis suggests that the variations in local wind m.y contribute to the coastal upwelling in this region.
