i.troducti.n: Non-steroi.al anti.i.flam.atory drugs (NSAi.s) use i. very com.on. NSAi.s use could be associ.ted wi.h elevated eosi.ophi. count whi.h could be a class effect or pati.nt-related. i.flam.ati.n could be the li.k between NSAi.s use and eosi.ophi.i.. Ai.0}: To com.are the pattern of eosi.ophi. count i. the peri.heral blood of frequent users of NSAi.s and healthy controls. m.thodology: Two hundred (one hundred frequent users of NSAi.s and 100 healthy controls) parti.i.ants who had no known ri.k factor for ki.ney di.ease and had gi.en i.form.d consent were recrui.ed. Blood was taken to determ.ne the whi.e cell count and di.ferenti.ls, serum.electrolyte and creati.i.e, and random.blood sugar. Results: The m.an age of NSAi.s users was not si.ni.i.antly di.ferent from.controls, P = 0.3. The m.an eosi.ophi. count was hi.her i. m.les than fem.les. The i.ci.ence of eosi.ophi.i. i. NSAi.s users was 4%. The m.an Eosi.ophi. count of NSAi.s users was i.si.ni.i.antly hi.her than controls, 164.3 ± 51 6 vs 135. 6 ± 53.4, P = 0.4. The m.an platelet count of NSAi.s users was si.ni.i.antly hi.her com.ared to controls, P = 0.04. The m.an hem.tocri. of NSAi.s users was si.ni.i.antly lower than the controls, P = 0.02. Propi.ni. aci. deri.ati.es were associ.ted wi.h the hi.hest eosi.ophi. count. Eosi.ophi. count was posi.i.ely related to age and serum.creati.i.e and i.versely related to blood glucose, hem.tocri. and glom.rular fi.trati.n rate. Conclusi.n: The i.ci.ence of eosi.ophi.i. was 4%. The eosi.ophi. count was hi.her i. frequent NSAi.s users than occasi.nal and non-users, i. m.les than fem.les and wi.h use propi.ni. aci. deri.ati.es com.ared to other NSAi.s. The Eosi.ophi. count was posi.i.ely related to age and platelet count.
