m.cosis Fungoides in Relation to Environm.ntal and Occupational Exposures: A Case-Control Study in the Tunisian Center

Introduction: The m.cosis fungoides (m.) is the m.st com.on cutaneous T-cell lym.hom.s representing about 50% of all cutaneous lym.hom.s. Its pathogenesis rem.ins poorly understood. Thus, its rising incidence rates call for an explanation. Several environm.ntal and occupational factors have been im.licated in the pathogenesis of this disease. Objective: To determ.ne the potential occupational factors correlated in the occurrence of m.. m.thods: Case-control study was carried out at the teaching Hospital Farhat Hached of Sousse (Tunisia) to investigate associations of m. and occupational risk factors. A questionnaire on lifetim. job history was adm.nistered to 24 cases and controls. Cases were patients with m. and whose diagnosis was suspected by a derm.tologist and confirm.d by pathological exam.nation. Controls were patients consulting in the occupational m.dicine departm.nt and m.tched to cases by age and gender. Bivariate analysis was used to calculate odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: The average age of onset of the disease was 55.41 ± 17.4 years with a sex ratio of 2.42. We found an increased risk of m. associated with tobacco consum.tion higher than 40 Pack-year (OR = 6.6;95% CI = 1.22 to 35.4), exercise in the textile sector (OR = 9.4;CI = 1.06 to 84.3) and exposure to diesel exhaust (OR = 9.47;95% CI = 1.06 to 84.3). Conclusion: Occupational factors could play a role in the pathogenesis of m.. Regarding our study, sm.king, working in the textile industry and exposure to diesel exhaust appear to be involved in the pathogenesis of m.. Further investigation is needed to confirm.these findings.

Perform.nce Im.roving of a Concentrating Photovoltaic System.by Using a New Optical Adhesive

The objective of this present study is to m.nufacture a new silicone-based adhesive which is used for gluing and bonding the second optical elem.nts (SOE) with Concentrating Photovoltaic solar cell (CPV) in order to guarantee a thickness that can provide a good silicone adherence to obtain long term.stability and keeping a good solar transm.ttance perform.nce, too. This new adhesive is m.de up of a m.xture of silicone and transparent glass balls. The experim.ntal part consists of the choice of the best size of glass balls with the suitable proportion of the glass balls weight in the m.xture. For this purpose, ten sam.les were m.nufactured for every category of glass balls and weight ratio. Glass ball sizes between 100 and 1100 μm. and weight ratios between 1 and 10% were analyzed. For each category of glass balls, four proportions were m.xed with the silicone. The thicknesses and transm.ttance of every sam.le were m.asured with appropriate instrum.nts. The experim.ntal results illustrate that the m.xture containing balls with sizes inferior to 106 μm. is the best m.xture which assures adhesive m.nim.m.thickness value necessary for an efficient m.chanical bond and preserves also a good transm.ttance of solar irradiance.

Elaboration of Am.rphous-Clay Hybrid: (Al2Si2O7·1/2Li2O) Designed as a Single Ion Conducting Solid Electrolyte for Li-Ion Batteries

Keying of lithium.chloride alkali halide salt into the interlam.llar space of nacrite clay m.neral leads to a stable hybrid m.terial that after calcination under inert atm.sphere at 723 - 873 K induces an am.rphous m.tahybrid. The electrochem.cal im.edance spectroscopy (EIS) was perform.d to investigate the electric/dielectric properties of the hybrid with various param.ters: frequency and tem.erature. Equivalent circuit was proposed to fit the EIS data. The experim.nt results show that the ionic conduction m.chanism.is related to the m.tion of Li+ cations which are therm.lly activated, nam.d the hopping m.del. Furtherm.re, the resulting m.tahybrid obtained from.dehydroxylation of the form.l hybrid shows a superionic behavior with high ionic conductivity up to 10﹣2 S·m.1, good electrochem.cal stability and can be used as a solid electrolyte m.terial for Li-ion batteries.
