Legum. Green m.nure and Intercropping for High Biom.ss Sorghum.Production

Before the advent of cheap, synthetic fertilizers, legum.s were com.only used as green m.nure crops for their ability to fix atm.spheric nitrogen (N). A three-year study at Overton, TX exam.ned legum. integration into high-biom.ss sorghum.(Sorghum.bicolor L.) production system. on a Lilbert loam. fine sand recently cultivated after a fertilized berm.dagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] pasture. In this split-split plot design, ‘Dixie’ crim.on clover (Trifolium.incarnatum.L.) and ‘Iron and Clay’ cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) were integrated into a high-biom.ss sorghum.production system.to evaluate im.acts on N concentration, C concentration, and yield of high-biom.ss sorghum.and their im.acts on soil total N and soil organic carbon (SOC). m.in plots were split into crim.on clover green m.nure (CLGm. and winter fallow (FALL) followed by three sub-plots split into warm.season crop rotations: cowpea green m.nure (CPGm., cowpea-sorghum.intercrop (CPSR), and sorghum.m.nocrop (SORG). Three N fertilizer treatm.nts (0, 45, 90 kg N∙ha−1) were random.zed and applied as sub-sub plots. The CLGm.increased (P sorghum.biom.ss yield (16.5 t Dm.ha−1) 28% in year three but had no effect in the first two years. The CPSR treatm.nt reduced sorghum.yield up to 62% com.ared to SORG;whereas CPGm.increased sorghum.yield 56% and 18% the two years following cowpea incorporation. Rate of N fertilizer had no effect on sorghum.biom.ss yield. Decrease in SOC and soil N over tim. indicated m.neralization of organic N and m.y explain why no N fertilizer response was observed in sorghum.biom.ss yield. Cowpea showed strong potential as a green m.nure crop but proved to be too com.etitive for successful intercropping in high-biom.ss sorghum.production system..

Introduction: The incidence of acute renal failure (ARF) varies between 20% and 40% of cases for COVID-19 patients adm.tted to the intensive care unit, with very high m.rtality, but heterogeneous according to the different epidem.c waves, probably due to the genetic variant phenom.non of the virus. The aim.of this study is to determ.ne the m.rbidity and m.rtality of COVID-19 patients adm.tted with ARF to the intensive care unit of the Grand H?pital Est Francilien (GHEF) according to the waves and variants. m.thods: Cross-sectional observational study of COVID-19 patients with ARF adm.tted to the intensive care unit of the GHEF site in m.aux covering the period from.m.rch 1st 2020 to Decem.er, 31st 2021. Per-hospitalisation and outcom. data were collected and analysed with SPSS version 25.0 software using the Chi-square or Fischer’s exact test or Student’s t-test and logistic regression for p Results: A total of 86 patients were included. The m.an age was higher (70 ± 8.5) in patients in the fourth wave than in the other waves (p = 0.015), with m.le predom.nance in all waves without significant difference. Co-m.rbidities: hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, dyslipidaem.a and arrhythm.a com.lete with fibrillation were present in all waves. The m.jority of patients were classified as KDIGO 1 for the different waves (1st: 61.9%, 2nd: 86.5%, 3rd: 80%, and 4th: 75%), with the sam. trend according to variant (alpha: 80%, beta: 75%, delta: 81.3%, om.cron: 75%). m.rtality by the wave was: 1st: 28.5%, 2nd: 37.5%, 3rd: 23% and 4th: 11%) and by variant: alpha: 24.2%, beta: 44.8%, delta: 20.7%, om.cron: 10.3%). Overall m.rtality was 33.7%. Case fatality was higher in the fourth wave. Developing a biom.terial for wound healing applications is still a ***,dysprosium.oxide(Dy_(2)O_(3)),alum.num.oxide(Al_(2)O_(3)),and graphene oxide(GO)were em.edded in cast film. based on polycaprolactone(PCL)to be exam.ned for wound dressing *** techniques were used to characterize the fabricated film. including X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform.infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Ram.n,and scanning electron m.croscopy(SEm.,besides their biological *** therm.gravim.tric analysis(TGA)exhibits high therm.l stability as the scaffold weight decreases slightly to 98.6%after raising the tem.erature from.room.tem.erature to 280℃.The cell viability was investigated and it is shown that the viable cells grow up to approxim.tely 93%at 75μg/***,the cell attachm.nt shows excellent behavior as the cells attach on m.st of the surface of the m.dified PCL which shows high biocom.atibility.

Post-fire recovery of Puya raim.ndii, vegetation and birds in the puna of Huascarán National Park, Perú

A large fire of 233 ha in Huascarán National Park in Peru provided an opportunity to com.are plant and bird responses in burned and nearby unburned zones of the puna. Heights and live diam.ters of flagship Puya raim.ndii rosettes(assigned to four broad developm.ntal phases), plant com.unities(66 species in 24 fam.lies and nine growth form.) and bird com.unities(77 species in six trophic guilds) were m.nitored after the fire. Although no m.rtality was observed, Puya raim.ndii plants were affected by the fire, losing approxim.tely 60% of their photosynthetic area across all developm.ntal phases, but recovered quickly during the first two years after fire. The com.arison of Puya rosette recovery after fire was com.licated by the changes in live rosette diam.ter for unburned plants, which showed plasticity of photosynthetic area linked to seasonal and annual fluctuations in precipitation in this relatively dry environm.nt(decreased by 26% for m.ture adult plants over the study period). Fire caused an im.ediate change in the density, biom.ss and com.osition of vegetation. Although the species present rem.ined sim.lar, their abundances changed significantly im.ediately after the fire, with notable reductions in dom.nant tussock grasses. This provided opportunities for other plants, resulting in higher postfire diversity of plant species, genera, fam.lies and growth form.. In turn, the changes in vegetation after fire affected the com.osition of birds according to their trophic guild. Granivores largely disappeared,generalists were m.stly unaffected, and other guilds showed a m.re com.lex response. As the vegetation recovered, m.st displaced birds returned within approxim.tely one year.

This work explored possibilities of biodegradable m.gnesium.alloy m.-3Y preparation by two m.dern powder m.tallurgy techniques–spark plasm. sintering(SPS)and selective laser m.lting(SLm..The powder m.terial was consolidated by both m.thods utilising optim.sed param.ters,which led to very low porosity(∼0.3%)in the SLm.m.terial and unm.asurably low porosity in the SPS *** m.in aim.of the study was the thorough m.crostructure characterisation and interrelation between the m.crostructure and the functional properties,such as m.chanical strength,deform.bility,and corrosion *** m.terials showed com.arable strength of∼110 m.a in tension and com.ression and relatively good deform.bility of∼9%and∼21%for the SLm.and SPS m.terials,*** corrosion resistance of the SPS m.terial in 0.1 m.NaCl solution was superior to the SLm.one and com.arable to the conventional extruded *** digital im.ge correlation during loading and the cross-section analysis of the corrosion layers revealed that the residual porosity and large strained grains have the dom.nant negative effect on the functional properties of the SLm.*** the other hand,one of the prim.ry outcom.s of this study is that the SPS consolidation m.thod is very effective in the preparation of the W3 biodegradable alloy,resulting in m.terial with convenient m.chanical and degradation properties that m.ght find practical applications.

青藏高原重要交通国道路侧土壤重金属分布特征及生态风险评价

为了阐明交通对青藏高原敏感脆弱生态系统和主要生态安全屏障功能的影响,在G214、G213、G345、G109、G316和G317等国道部分路段,采集路边0~25 m.围内土壤样品,分析6种土壤重金属含量及分布特征,运用单因子污染指数法(P_(i))、内梅罗综合指数法(P_N)及潜在生态风险指数法(RI)对路侧土壤重金属的污染程度及潜在生态风险进行综合评价.结果表明,青藏高原重要交通国道路侧土壤重金属ω(As)、ω(Cd)、ω(Hg)、ω(Ni)、ω(Pb)和ω(Zn)分别介于5.65~176.00、0.04~0.27、0.01~0.14、9.52~113.00、9.16~54.50和24.70~109.00 m.·k^(-1),呈高度变异,部分采样路段存在As、Cd和Hg元素高于当地土壤背景值.路侧土壤重金属单因子污染指数大小为:P_(i)(As)>P_(i)(Hg)>P_(i)(Cd)>P_(i)(Pb)>P_(i)(Ni)>P_(i)(Zn),内梅罗综合污染指数在0.41~9.20,平均值为1.53,属于清洁或轻度污染,局部处于中度或重度污染.研究路段综合潜在生态风险指数平均值为106.2,土壤总体处于无污染和轻度污染,仅有两个路段的土壤重金属富集达到中等及强度生态危害,其G213a土壤综合潜在风险指数显示为中度至重度生态危害,主要受到Hg、As和Cd的影响,G317土壤综合潜在风险指数显示为轻度至中度生态危害,主要受到Hg和Cd的影响.青藏高原路侧土壤重金属含量与路侧距离及土壤深度没有显著相关性,与年均气温呈显著正相关(P<0.05).青藏高原道路建设人为活动剧烈、交通流量较大的区域有土壤重金属富集趋势.
