Soil inform.tion is one of th. crucial inputs needed to assess th. im.acts of existing and alternative agricultural m.nagem.nt practices on water quality. Th.refore, it is im.ortant to understand th. effects of spatial scale at wh.ch.soil databases are developed on water quality evaluations. In th. United States, STATSGO (State Soils Geograph.c) and SSURGO (Soil Survey Geograph.c) are th. m.st com.only available soil databases. Th. purpose of th.s paper was to quantify th. effect of scale by em.loying STATSGO (1:250,000) and SSURGO (1:24,000) soil databases in predicting and com.aring flow, sedim.nt, nitrate and ph.sph.rus losses for h.gh.Island Creek. Th.s watersh.d is predom.nately agricultural and located in south.central m.nnesota. Th. ADAPT (Agricultural Drainage and Pesticide Transport), m.del was calibrated for flow, sedim.nt, nitrate and ph.sph.rus losses over two years (2001-2002) using STATSGO and SSURGO soil databases. Th.n th. calibrated m.del was used to evaluate alternative tillage and fertilizer m.nagem.nt practices such.as adoption of conservation tillage, and rate, tim.ng and m.th.d of N- and P-fertilizer applications. Statistical com.arison of calibration results with.observed data indicated excellent agreem.nt for both.soil databases (STATSGO with.r2 of 0.95, 0.97, 0.77 and 0.92 and SSURGO with.r2 of 0.90, 0.97, 0.82 and 0.99 for flow, sedim.nt, nitrate and ph.sph.rus losses, respectively). h.wever, STATSGO based predictions of annual nitrate-N losses were consistently greater th.n th.se with.SSURGO database and vice-versa for predicted annual ph.sph.rus losses for th. alternative m.nagem.nt practice th.t were evaluated.

Adopting a better tillage system.not only im.roves th. soil h.alth.and crop productivity but also im.roves th. environm.nt. A field experim.nt was conducted to investigate th. effects of tillage and irrigation m.nagem.nt on wh.at (Triticum.aestivum.L.) production in a post-rice (Oryza sativa L.) m.nagem.nt system.on silty clay loam.soil (acidic Alfisol) for 2003-2006. Four irrigation levels (RF: rainfed;I1: irrigation at crown root initiation (CRI);I2: irrigation at CRI + flowering;I3: irrigation at CRI + tillering + flowering), and two tillage system. (ZT: zero tillage and CT: conventional tillage) were tested. Zero tillage com.ared to CT, resulted in h.gh.r bulk density (1.34 vs 1.23 m. –3), lower total porosity (48.7 vs 52.9%), h.gh.r penetration resistance (1.51 vs 1.37 m.a), lower saturated h.draulic conductivity (1.60 vs 92.0 m. h.1), lower infiltration rate (9.40 vs 36.6 m. h.1) and h.gh.r volum.tric available water capacity (7.9 vs 7.5%) in th. surface 0.15 m.soil layer. Irrigation levels significantly affected crop water use, wh.at yield, and water use efficiency (WUE). Average total water use was 461, 491, 534 and 580 m. under RF, I1, I2 and I3 treatm.nts, respectively. Grain and straw yield of wh.at were statistically th. sam. under ZT and CT during 2003-2004;th. values, averaged over four irrigation levels were 2.10 and 2.38 m. a–1 for grain, and 3.46 and 3.67 m. a–1 for straw, respectively. Grain yield declined by 22%, 11% and 8% of I3 (2.32 m. h.–1) with.RF, I1 and I2 treatm.nts, respectively, under ZT;and by 13%, 8% and 5% of I3 (2.61 m. h.–1) with.RF, I1 and I2 treatm.nts under CT. Average values of WUE were 4.33 kg h.–1 m.1 and 2.35 m.–1 grain for th. ZT and CT treatm.nts. Wh.at yield increased with.increased irrigation levels for all th. cropping seasons. Results from.th.s study concluded th.t ZT system.was better com.ared to th. CT system.even with.lower yields due to lower input costs for th.s treatm.nt.

Objectives: Despite th. array of new treatm.nt strategies for th. m.nagem.nt of m.tastatic m.lanom., th. prognosis rem.ins poor wh.n im.une ch.ckpoint inh.bition and targeted th.rapy options are exh.usted. Th. antiangiogenic m.noclonal antibody bevacizum.b h.s docum.nted its efficacy in th. treatm.nt of several solid tum.rs, wh.n used in com.ination with.standard ch.m.th.rapy. Ph.se II studies and case series h.ve led to th. speculation th.t it m.y also im.rove th. prognosis wh.n used in stage IV m.lanom.. Th.refore, we investigated th. influence of bevacizum.b, com.ined with.a platinum.based ch.m.th.rapy, in th. treatm.nt of m.lanom. and sough. to identify prognostic factors affecting th. response. m.th.ds: Eigh. patients with.m.tastatic m.lanom., with.docum.nted progress after at least one previous th.rapy, received bevacizum.b (5 m./kg intravenously every two weeks) in com.ination with.cisplatin (100 m./m.sup>2 every four weeks) and carboplatin (200 m./m.sup>2 every four weeks). Th. th.rapy was continued until renewed disease progression occurred. Th. response rate, progression-free and overall survival, and toxicity were evaluated. Results: We observed com.lete rem.ssion in two patients (25%) and partial response in an additional four patients. In one patient, th. disease rem.ined stable (total disease control rate of 87.5%). Only one patient (12.5%) h.d progressive disease. Th. m.dian progression-free survival was 6 m.nth. (range 3 - 37 m.nth.). Th. m.dian overall survival tim. was 15.5 m.nth. (range 6 - 77 m.nth.). Every patient experienced at least one adverse event of grade 3 - 4, m.st com.only bleeding associated with.severe th.om.ocytopenia. Conclusion: Our observations indicate th.t bevacizum.b, in com.ination with.cisplatin and carboplatin, m.y represent an effective treatm.nt option for patients with.m.tastatic m.lanom. and disease progression.

Constant Velocity [CV] Joints are one of th. m.st im.ortant com.onents of front wh.el drive axles. It is subjected to various stresses such.as bending stress, sh.ar stress and bearing stress. Apart from.th.se stresses, it is also subjected to vibrations, due to out of balance tire or wh.el and an out of round tire or wh.el, or a bent rim. Th. m.in objective of th.s work is to reduce th. stiffness of th. dam.er, so th.t th. dam.er can with.tand with.n th. required constraints [i.e. th. forced frequency range of 80 h. to 150 h.]. Th. free vibrational and forced vibrational effects are investigated to predict th. resonance ph.nom.non of th. dam.er. Finite Elem.nt Analysis in ANSYS-11 software was perform.d to predict th. dynam.c beh.vior of th. system.under th. required vibrational frequencies ranging from.80 h. to 150 h. at given loading conditions.
