In addition to the loss of m.tor function,~60% of patients develop pain after spinal cord *** cellular-m.lecular m.chanism. are not well understood,but the data sug.ests that plasticity within the rostral,epicenter,and caudal penum.ra of the injury site initiates a cellularm.lecular interplay that acts as a rewiring.m.chanism.leading.to central neuropathic *** can lead to the form.tion of new connections trig.ering.abnorm.l sensory *** excitatory g.utam.te transporters are responsible for the reuptake of extracellular g.utam.te which m.kes them.a critical targ.t to prevent neuronal hyperexcitability and *** previous studies showed a sexually dim.rphic therapeutic window for spinal cord injury after treatm.nt with the selective estrog.n receptor m.dulator *** this study,we investig.ted the anti-allodynic effects of tam.xifen in m.le and fem.le rats with spinal cord *** hypothesized that tam.xifen exerts anti-allodynic effects by increasing.the expression of g.utam.te transporters,leading.to reduced hyperexcitability of the secondary neuron or by decreasing.aberrant *** and fem.le rats received a m.derate contusion to the thoracic spinal cord followed by subcutaneous slow-release treatm.nt of tam.xifen or m.trix pellets as a control(placebo).We used von Frey m.nofilam.nts and the“up-down m.thod”to evaluate m.chanical *** treatm.nt decreased allodynia only in fem.le rats with spinal cord injury revealing.a sexdependent *** expression profile of g.utam.terg.c transporters(excitatory am.no acid transporter 1/g.utam.te aspartate transporter and excitatory am.no acid transporter 2/g.utam.te transporter-1)revealed a sexual dim.rphism.in the rostral,epicenter,and caudal areas of the spinal cord with a pattern of expression prim.rily on *** rodents showed a sig.ificantly hig.er level of excitatory am.no acid transporter-1 expression while m.le rodents showed increased

In this paper we reported the preparation and extensive characterization of La9.83–x Sr x Si6O26＋δ（0≤x≤0.50） precursors, interm.diate and final products. The sintering.reactions, the phase form.tion, the structure as well as the powders＇ m.rpholog. were studied by m.ans of therm.g.avim.tric analysis, X-ray diffraction（XRd）, Fourier-transform.infrared spectroscopy（FTIR） and scanning.electron m.croscopy（Sem.. m.reover, the effect of stoichiom.try on precursor＇s structure and m.rpholog. as well as on interm.diate and final products was reported. As was concluded pure La9.83Si6O26＋δ, La9.38Sr0.45Si6O26＋δ and La9.33Sr0.50Si6O26＋δ could be prepared after sintering.at 1400 °C for 20 h while La9.68Sr0.15Si6O26＋δ and La9.53Sr0.30Si6O26＋δ com.ounds contained m.nor traces（〈3.5%） of La2Si2O7 secondary phase. Concerning.the synthesis, there have been no previous reports on the preparation of pure La9.83Si6O26＋δ, La9.38Sr0.45Si6O26＋δ and La9.33Sr0.50Si6O26＋δ com.ounds. The final powders consisted of spherical particles and an increase of Sr content seem.d to inhibit sintering.phenom.na. The existence of interstitial oxyg.n at interm.diate crystallog.aphic positions of apatite structure had g.eat effect on Si O4 sub-structure distortion. The increase of Sr content led to a m.jor reduction of interstitial oxyg.n quantity and the refutation of silicon tetrahedron distortion.

Using.the lattice-Boltzm.nn com.utational approach in conjunction with the Reynolds averag.d Navier-Stokes （RANS） m.del, several turbulent flows and the transport and deposition of particles in different passag.s were studied. The new lattice Boltzm.nn m.thod （LBm. solved the RANS equations coupled with the standard and renorm.lization g.oup k-e turbulence m.dels. In particular, the LBm.form.lation was aug.0}nted by the addition of two transport equations for the probability distribution function of populations of k and 8. The discrete random.walk m.del was used to g.nerate the instanta- neous turbulence fluctuations. For turbulent channel flows, the analytical fits to the root m.an-square velocity fluctuations obtained by the direct num.rical sim.lation of the turbulent flow were used in the analysis. Attention was g.ven to the proper evaluation of the wall norm.l turbulent velocity fluctuations particularly near the wall. The sim.lation results were com.ared with the available num.rical sim.lation and experim.ntal data. The new LBm.RANS m.del is shown to provide a reasonably accurate description of turbulent flows and particle transport and deposition at m.dest com.utational cost.

In this work, the m.xing.and seg.eg.tion of binary m.xtures of particles with different sizes and densities in a pseudo-2d spouted bed were studied experim.ntally. A binary m.xture of solid particles including.sand, g.psum. and polyurethane was used. To determ.ne the particles m.ss fraction, and their m.xing.and seg.eg.tion in the bed, an im.g.-processing.technique was developed and used. Im.ortant hydrodynam.c param.ters, such as the axial and radial seg.eg.tion profiles of the solid particles, were m.asured. The effects of air velocity, particle size, and particle m.ss fraction were also evaluated. The flow reg.m. in the spouted bed and the tim. required for reaching.the equilibrium.state of the solid particles were discussed. The results showed that the seg.eg.tion of solid particles and the tim. to equilibrium.both decreased when the air velocity increased to m.ch larg.r than the m.nim.m.spouting.velocity. The axia! seg.eg.tion increased with the diam.ter ratio of the particles. Upon com.letion of the test, coarse particles were concentrated m.inly in the spout reg.on, while fine particles were ag.reg.ted in the annulus reg.on. exam.nation of the flow pattern in the spouted bed showed that the particles near the wall had long.r flow paths, while those near the spout reg.on had shorter flow paths.

Liquid storag. tanks are essential structures that are often located in residential and industrial areas; thus an assessm.nt of their seism.c perform.nce is an im.ortant eng.neering.issue. In this paper, the seism.c response ofunanchored steel liquid storag. tanks is investig.ted using.the endurance tim. （eT） dynam.c analysis procedure and com.ared to responses obtained for anchored tanks under actual g.ound m.tions and intensifying.eT records. In m.st cases, the results from.g.ound m.tions are properly obtained with neg.ig.ble differences using.eT records. It is observed that uplifting.of the tank base, which is closely related to the tank aspect ratio, has the g.eatest sig.ificance in the responses of the tank and can be predicted with reasonable accuracy by using.currently available eT records.

Predation rate with relation to species, sex and water tem.erature was tested am.ng.four different g.m.aridean spe- cies： dikerog.m.arus villosus, g.m.arus roeselii, g.m.arus pulex and g.m.arus fossarum. Tests were perform.d in m.cro- cosm. in clim.te-controlled room. at five different tem.eratures. daphnia m.g.a, a com.on water flea, served as prey. On ave- rag. d. villosus showed the hig.est consum.tion rate of daphnia m.g.a over the entire tem.erature rang., followed in decreas- ing.order by g.pulex, g.roeselii and g.fossarum. The predation rate of all species showed a distinct peak at 20~C. Correction of predation rates for body size g.ve som.what different results. d. villosus is then still the m.st predatory of all g.m.aridean spe- cies tested followed by g. pulex, g. fossarum.and g.roeselii. The outcom. of the daphnia tests is consistent with results of other studies with different prey. This supports that the daphnia test is a g.od and quick indicator of the predatory abilities in g.m. m.ridean species at varying.tem.eratures, and allows the prediction of how chang.ng.tem.erature reg.m.s influence invasion im.acts

Nickel ferrite nanoparicles with various g.ain sizes are synthesized using.annealing.treatm.nt followed by ball m.lling.of its bulk com.onent m.terials. Com.ercially available nickel and iron oxide powders are first m.xed, and then annealed at 1100~C in an oxyg.n environm.nt furnace and for 3h. The sam.les are then m.lled for different tim.s in an SPeX m.ll. X-ray diffraction pattern indicates that in this stag. the sam.le is sing.e phase. The averag. g.ain size is estim.ted by scanning.electron m.croscopy （Sem. and x-ray diffraction techniques. m.g.etic behavior of the sam.le at room.tem.eratm.e is studied using.a superconducting.quantum.interference device （SQUId）. The Curie tem.erature of the powders is m.asured by an LCR m.ter unit. The x-ray diffraction patterns clearly indicate that increasing.the m.lling.tim. leads to a decrease in the g.ain size and consequently leads to a decrease in the saturation m.g.etization as well as the Curie tem.eratures. This result is attributed to the spin-g.ass-like surface layer on the nanocrystalline nickel ferrite with a ferrim.g.etically alig.ed core.

We report the fabrication and spectroscopic characterization of Yb^3＋-doped phosphate g.ass, also containing.silver nitrate. Scanning.electron m.croscopy（Sem. provides the evidence of the form.tion of silver nano-particles（SNPs）, which are form.d as a consequence of m.lting.and therm.l decom.osition of Ag.NO3. Absorption spectra of the sam.les in the visible-to-near-infrared spectral rang. reveal the presence of bands centered at 410 nm.associated with the SNP-plasm.n resonance, and at 976 nm.due to the Yb^3＋. Under 916-nm.laser-diode pum.ing. the effect of the SNP reflects that： i） the fluorescence in the 950-nm.1150-nm.spectral rang. is strong.y enhanced（～ 30 tim.s）, while the fluorescence decay tim. associated with the ^2F5/2→^2F7/2transition of Yb^3＋ increases 25%, and ii） the basic lasing.properties（saturation pum.ing.intensity, the em.ssion and absorption cross sections） are substantially im.roved.
