Chitin powder and chitin-aerogel were prepared f.om.shrim. wastes and used to uptake Y^(3+)f.om.aqueous solutions and concentrate this rare earth elem.nt f.om.phosphogypsum.PG).Chitin aerogel displays a specif.c surf.ce area of.945 m.(2)/g,while chitin powder is 3.6 m.(2)/g,which largely inf.uences its adsorption *** the adsorption in synthetic solutions,the ef.ect of.pH on Y^(3+)rem.val is strong f.r chitin powder *** contrast,no big pH inf.uence was detected f.r chitin *** interactions and chelation can highlight the proposed m.chanism.of.Y^(3+)on chitin adsorbents f.r the powder and ***,in addition to these interactions,pore f.lling/pore dif.usion is the m.in m.chanism.of.Y^(3+)rem.val in the chitin *** aerogel is ef.icient in concentrating 8 tim.s the Y^(3+)f.om.PG,a very com.lex *** com.lex chitin aerogel-Y^(3+)can be a secondary source of.rare earth elem.nts f.r other applications.

Interpreting a m.ocardial inf.am.ation as causal,contributory or as of.no signif.cance at all in the cause of.death can be challenging,especially in cases where other pathologic and/or m.dico-legal f.ndings are also *** f.rther evaluate the signif.cance of.m.ocardial inf.am.ation as a cause of.death we perf.rm.d a retrospective cohort study of.f.rensic and clinical autopsy *** revised the spectrum.of.histological inf.am.atory param.ters in the m.ocardium.of.79 adult autopsy cases and related these to the reported cause of.*** slides were reviewed f.r the distribution and intensity of.inf.am.atory cell inf.ltrations,the predom.nant inf.am.atory cell type,and the presence of.inf.am.ation-associated m.ocyte injury,f.brosis,edem. and ***,the cases were divided over three groups,based on the reported cause of.*** 1(n=27)consisted of.all individuals with an obvious unnatural cause of.*** 2(n=29)included all individuals in which m.ocarditis was interpreted to be one out of.m.re possible causes of.*** 3(n=23)consisted of.all individuals in which m.ocarditis was reported to be the only signif.cant f.nding at autopsy,and no other cause of.death was *** application of.our histological param.ters showed that only a dif.use increase of.inf.am.atory cells could discrim.nate between an incidental presence of.inf.am.ation(Group 1)or a potentially signif.cant one(Groups 2 and 3).No other histological param.ter showed signif.cant dif.erences between the *** results suggest that generally used histological param.ters are of.en insuf.icient to dif.erentiate an incidental m.ocarditis f.om.a(potentially)signif.cant one.

Introduction:This study aim. to describe the occurrence of.postoperative com.lications related to cholesteatom. surgery and to determ.ne f.ctors inf.uencing the m.st com.on com.lication,*** surgical site inf.ction(SSI)in cases with and without m.stoid *** and m.thods:Retrospective analyses were perf.rm.d on surgically treated cholesteatom.s in our hospital between 2013 and *** characteristics,peri-and postoperative m.nagem.nt and com.lications were *** cases were divided into two groups based on whether m.stoid obliteration was perf.rm.d or ***:A total of.336 cholesteatom. operations were perf.rm.d,of.which 248 cases received m.stoid *** total 21 com.lications were observed,of.which SSI was the m.st com.on(15/21).No dif.erence in occurrence of.any postoperative com.lication was seen between the obliteration and noobliteration group(p=0.798),especially not in the num.er of.SSI(p=0.520).Perioperative and/or postoperative prophylactic antibiotics were not associated to the developm.nt of.an SSI in both *** the no-obliteration group a younger age(p=0.015),as well as prim.ry surgery(p=0.022)increased the risk f.r *** the obliteration group the use of.bioactive glass(BAG)S53P4 was identif.ed as independent predictor of.SSI(p=0.008,OR 5.940).Discussion:SSI is the m.st com.on postoperative com.lication in cholesteatom. *** causes of.SSI are m.ltif.ctorial,theref.re f.rther prospective research is needed to answer which f.ctors can prevent the developm.nt of.an SSI in cholesteatom. surgery.

The identif.cation of.jets originating f.om.quarks and gluons,of.en ref.rred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an im.ortant role in various analyses perf.rm.d at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard m.del m.asurem.nts and searches f.r new particles decaying to quarks of.en rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the m.asurem.nt of.the ef.iciencies of.quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated lum.nosity of.140 f.^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high perf.rm.nces in rejecting jets f.om.gluon over jets f.om.quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirem.nts on the num.er of.inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other com.ines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A m.thod is established to determ.ne the quark/gluon f.action in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsam.les def.ned by the jet *** in tagging ef.iciency between data and sim.lation are provided f.r jets with transverse m.m.ntum.between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and f.r m.ltiple tagger working points.

The prediction of.atom.stic f.acture m.chanism. in body-centred cubic(bcc)iron is essential f.r understanding its sem.-brittle *** atom.stic sim.lations of.the crack-tip under m.de-I loading based on em.irical interatom.c potentials yield contradicting predictions and artif.cial *** enable f.acture prediction with quantum.accuracy,we develop a Gaussian approxim.tion potential(GAP)using an active learning strategy by extending a density f.nctional theory(Df.)database of.f.rrom.gnetic bcc *** apply the active learning algorithm.and obtain a f. GAP m.del with a converged m.del uncertainty over a broad range of.stress intensity f.ctors(SIf.)and f.r f.ur crack *** learning ef.iciency of.the approach is analysed,and the predicted critical SIf. are com.ared with Grif.ith and Rice *** sim.lations reveal that cleavage along the original crack plane is the atom.stic f.acture m.chanism.f.r{100}and{110}crack planes at T=0 K,thus settling a long-standing *** work also highlights the need f.r a m.ltiscale approach to predicting f.acture and intrinsic ductility,whereby f.nite tem.erature,f.nite loading rate ef.ects and pre-existing def.cts(e.g.,nanovoids,dislocations)should be taken explicitly into account.

Background:Data on epidem.ology, costs, and outcom.s of.burn-related injuries presenting at em.rgency departm.nts (EDs) are scarce. To obtain such inf.rm.tion, a questionnaire study with an adequate response rate is im.erative. There is evidence that optim.zed strategies can increase patient participation. However, it is unclear whether this applies to burn patients in an ED setting. The objective of.this f.asibility study was to optim.ze and evaluate patient recruitm.nt strategy and f.llow-up m.thods in patients with burn injuries presenting at EDs. m.thods:In a prospective cohort study with a 6-m.nth f.llow-up, patients with burn-related injuries attending two large EDs during a 3-m.nth study period were included. Eligible patients were quasi-random.y allocated to a standard or optim.zed recruitm.nt strategy by week of.the ED visit. The standard recruitm.nt strategy consisted of.an invitation letter to participate, an inf.rm.d consent f.rm. a questionnaire, and a f.anked return envelope. The optim.zed recruitm.nt strategy was com.lem.nted by a stam.ed returned envelope, m.netary incentive, sending a second copy of.the questionnaire, and a rem.nder by telephone in non-responders. Response rates were calculated, and questionnaires were used to assess treatm.nt, costs, and health-related quality of.lif.. Results:A total of.87 patients were included of.which 85 were eligible f.r the f.llow-up study. There was a higher response rate at 2 m.nths in the optim.zed versus the standard recruitm.nt strategy (43.6%vs. 20.0%;OR=3.1 (95%CI 1.1–8.8)), although overall response is low. Non-response analyses showed no signif.cant dif.erences in patient, burn injury or treatm.nt characteristics between responders versus non-responders. Conclusions:This study dem.nstrated that response rates can be increased with an optim.zed, but m.re labor-intensive recruitm.nt strategy, although f.rther optim.zation of.recruitm.nt and f.llow-up is needed. Using e^(+)e^(−)annihilation data corresponding to an integrated lum.nosity of.2.93 f.^(−1)taken at the center-of.m.ss energy√s=3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector,a joint am.litude analysis is perf.rm.d on the decays D^(0)→π^(+)π^(−)π^(+)π^(−)and D^(0)→π^(+)π^(−)π^(0)π^(0)(non-η).The f.t f.actions of.individual com.onents are obtained,and large interf.rences am.ng the dom.nant com.onents of.the decays D^(0)→a_(1)(1260)π,D^(0)→π(1300)π,D^(0)→ρ(770)ρ(770),and D^(0)→2(ππ)_(S)are observed in both *** the obtained am.litude m.del,the CP-even f.actions of.D^(0)→π^(+)π^(−)π^(+)π^(−)and D^(0)→π^(+)π^(−)π^(0)π^(0)(non-η)are determ.ned to be(75.2±1.1_(stat).±1.5_(syst.))%and(68.9±1.5_(stat).±2.4_(syst.))%,*** branching f.actions of.D^(0)→π^(+)π^(−)π^(+)π^(−)and D^(0)→π^(+)π^(−)π^(0)π^(0)(non-η)are m.asured to be(0.688±0.010_(stat.)±0.010_(syst.))%and(0.951±0.025_(stat.)±0.021_(syst.))%,*** am.litude analysis provides an im.ortant m.del f.r the binning strategy in m.asuring the strong phase param.ters of.D^(0)→4πwhen used to determ.ne the CKm.angleγ(ϕ_(3))via the B^(−)→DK^(−)decay.

Nanostructured graphene f.lm. were used as platf.rm. f.r the dif.erentiation of.Saos-2 cells into bonelike cells. The f.lm. were grown using the plasm.-enhanced chem.cal vapor deposition m.thod, which allowed the production of.both vertically and horizontally aligned carbon nanowalls(CNWs). m.dif.cations of.the techniqueallowed control of.the density of.the CNWs and their orientation af.er the transf.r process. The inf.uence of.two dif.erent topographies on cell attachm.nt, prolif.ration,and dif.erentiation was investigated. f.rst, the transf.rred graphene surf.ces were shown to be noncytotoxic and were able to support cell adhesion and growth f.r over 7 ***, early cell dif.erentiation(identif.ed by cellular alkaline phosphatase release) was f.und to be enhanced on the horizontally aligned CNW surf.ces, whereas m.neralization(identif.ed by cellular calcium.production), a later stage of.bone cell dif.erentiation, was stim.lated by the presence of.the vertical CNWs on the surf.ces. These results show that the graphene coatings, grown using the presented m.thod, are biocom.atible. And their topographies have an im.act on cell behavior, which can be usef.l in tissue engineering applications.
