Influence of EfOm.on the Oxidation of m.cropollutants by Ozone and UVIH2O2 in Secondary Effluents

The aim.of this work was to study the influence of effluent organic m.tter （EfOm. on m.cropollutants rem.val by ozone and UV/H2O2. To perform.the experim.nts, deionized water and m.nicipal secondary effluents （SE） were artificially contam.nated with atrazine （ATZ） and treated by the two proposed m.thods. ATZ concentration, COD and TOC were recorded along the reaction tim. and used to evaluate EfOm.effect on the system.efficiency. Results dem.nstrate that the presence of EfOm.can significantly reduce the m.cropollutant rem.val rate due to com.etition of EfOm.com.onents to react with radicals and/or m.lecular ozone. The hydroxyl radical scavenging caused by EfOm.was quantified as well as the contribution of m.lecular ozone and .OH radicals during the ozonation of SE. EfOm.com.onents prom.ted higher inhibition of ATZ oxidation by hydroxyl radicals than by m.lecular ozone.
