Efficacy and safety of treatm.nt of hepatitis C virus infection in renal transplant recipients

Aim. To assess the efficacy and safety of com.inedpegylated interferon and ribavirin therapy in hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in renal transplant recipients. m.THODS: This is a retrospective chart review of post renal transplant patients who were positive for anti-HCV and HCV-RNA, and who have received treatm.nt with com.ination of pegylated interferon and ribavirin between October 2003 and Decem.er 2008. Only patients with stable graft function and absence of evidence of cirrhosis and who received the therapy for continuous 48 wk were included. Nineteen patients (13 m.le and 6 fem.le) were identified and included. The patient's com.lete blood count, liver and kidney prof ile, and cal- culated glom.rular f iltration rate (GFR) were m.nitored every 6-8 wk while on treatm.nt. HCV-RNA was tested at 12 wk for early virological response, at 48 wk for end of treatm.nt response (ETR), and then retested at 24, and 48 wk after com.letion of therapy for sustained virological response (SVR). Liver biopsies were obtained before treatm.nt from.all patients and graft kidney biopsies were perform.d as required. RESULTS: Of the entire cohort, 9 patients (47.4%) showed an ETR and 8 had SVR (42.1%). Of the 8 patients with abnorm.l alanine am.notransferase (ALT) levels at baseline, 78.9% had their ALT norm.lized (including the virological non responders). ALT was norm.l in all responders at the end of therapy and at 24 wk post therapy (100%). Only one patient (5.3%) developed an increase in creatinine and decline in GFR from.baseline towards the end of treatm.nt. This patient's kidney biopsy revealed borderline rejection. There was no im.act on response by HCV-genotype, initial HCV RNA load, age or sex of the patient or duration post transplant before com.encem.nt of therapy. All patients tolerated treatm.nt in the sam. way as non-transplant with no unusual or increased occurrence of side effects. in recent years, there has been an increase in concern regarding the effects of paracetam.l poisoning on liver tissues, particularly when consum.d in large am.unts. Som. studies have estim.ted that paracetam.l is involved in 56% of acute liver diseases, whereas 0.4% of paracetam.l overdose cases result in fatal-ity. in this study, the effects of m.ringa oleifera on paracetam.l toxicity in the liver were explored. it has been dem.nstrated that m.ringa oleifera is highly nu-tritious, contains bioactive m.lecules, and is therapeutically beneficial. m.ny studies have shown that m.ringa oleifera leaves possess a wide range of biologi-cal properties, including antioxidant, tissue protection, analgesic, antihyperten-sive, and im.unom.dulatory activities. This study highlights the protective role of m.ringa oleifera on handling possible paracetam.l hepatotoxicity in m.le rats. .

Therm.l Decom.osition of Diphenyl Tetroxane in Chlorobenzene Solution

The therm.l decom.osition of Cyclic Diperoxide of Benzaldehyde 3,6-diphenyl-1,2,4,5-tetroxane, (DFT) in chlorobenzene solution in the studied tem.erature range (130°C - 166°C) satisfactorily satisfies a first order law up to 60% conversions of diperoxide. DFT would decom.ose through a m.chanism.in stages and initiated by the hom.lytic breakdown of one of the peroxidic bonds of the m.lecule, with the form.tion of the corresponding interm.diate biradical. The concentration studied was very low, so that the effects of secondary reactions of decom.osition induced by free radicals originated in the reaction m.dium.can be considered m.nim.l or negligible. The activation param.ters for the unim.lecular therm.l decom.osition reaction of the DFT are ΔH# = 30.52 ± 0.3 kcal&m.ddot;m.l-1 and ΔS# = -6.38 ± 0.6 cal&m.ddot;m.l-1 K-1. The support for a step-by-step m.chanism.instead of a process concerted is m.de by com.arison with the theoretically calculated activation energy for the therm.l decom.osition of 1,2,4,5-tetroxane.

Evaluation and im.rovem.nt of Bed Load Form.la Using Tapi River Data, india

The effect of non uniform.ty of bed m.terial on the sedim.nt transport has been studied by various investi-gators in the past. in the present paper the bed load transport rate has been estim.ted for non uniform.bed m.terial considering the various variables like discharge, hydraulic m.an depth, flow velocity, bed slope, average diam.ter of particle etc. by collecting field data of Tapi River. The m.jority of the bed load form.lae represent a functional relationship between bed load discharge and shear stress. This study focuses on evalu-ating the bed load using Einstein’s form.lae. The bed load of pre m.nsoon season is estim.ted using various field param.ters. The m.them.tical m.del has been developed using effective shear stress and bed load dis-charge. The statistical analysis, m.ltiple regression and curve fitting (by nonlinear square fitter) is carried out using allom.tric function of m.cro cal Origin 7.5. The proposed m.del has been tested using five years field data of Tapi River other than that used for the developm.nt of m.del. The value of rm.e is close to zero in-dicates a perfect fit between m.asured and predicted values. The inequality coefficient is close to 0.50 sug-gest m.derate relationship between estim.ted and com.uted bed load.

Background: The patients’ age is considered a modified risk factor that causes periodontal disease, dental caries, and their development. Objective: The present study was designed to evaluate the impact of salivary pH value and dental caries index on periodontal status among adult age groups of patients from Aseer region, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis carried out in the college of dentistry, King Khalid University on 750 adult patients (400 males and 350 females). The adults patients were divided into three equal groups according to the patients’ age: group I (20 - 30 years), group II (31 - 40 years), and group III (41 - 50 years). Plaque index (PLI), gingival index (GI), clinical attachment loss (CAL), and the dental caries index (DMFT) recorded as well as salivary pH. All findings collected, then analyzed by an ANOVA test and the t-test. A p-value at Results: The clinical findings of the current study showed that there were statistically significant differences in the patients’ age of both males and females. Moreover, there were statistically significant differences in GI. On the other hand, there were highly statistically significant differences in PLI and DMFS, but there were no significant differences in CAL of both males and females Moreover, there were no statistically significant differences in salivary pH. Com.arative analysis of electronic, m.gnetic, optical, and therm.electric properties of CdFe2O4, calculated by em. ploying PBEsol ＋ m.J has been done. The PBEsol reveals m.tallic nature, while TB-m.J illustrates ferrom.gnetic sem.conducting behavior. The reasons behind the origin of ferrom.gnetism.are explored by observing the exchange, crystal field, and John-Teller energies. The optical nature is investigated by analyzing dielectric constants, refraction, absorption coefficient, reflectivity, and optical conductivity. Finally, therm.electric properties are elaborated by describing the electri- cal and therm.l conductivities, Seebeck coefficient, and power factor. The strong absorption for the visible energy and high power factor suggest CdFe2O4 as the potential candidate for renewable energy applications.

The dem.nd for health consciousness to prevent m.lnutrition, a high risk factor in developing countries especially in the rural areas is increasing. This study was designed to assess the level of knowledge and utilization of m.shroom.as a food supplem.nt in six Local Governm.nt Areas of Cross River State, one predom.nantly urban and the other five m.stly rural. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from.a total of 250 participants. Findings revealed that 178 (71.2%) of respondents had good knowledge of m.shroom. as food supplem.nt 205 (82%) utilized them.as such, while m.jority of the participants 243 (93.6%) 20.1% said it is part of the fam.ly diet if available. Chi-square analysis showed statically significant association between knowledge and utilization (X2 cal = 89.62a, X2 tab = 3.84;df = 1, p in conclusion, we envision m.shroom. as the m.st cost-effective source of a healthier diet tackling food insecurity, diversification and m.lnutrition for fam.lies in Cross River.

Steady rotation of a com.osite sphere in a concentric spherical cavity

The problem.of steady rotation of a com.osite sphere located at the centre of a spherical container has been investigated. A com.osite particle referred to in this paper is a spherical solid core covered with a perm.able spherical shell. The Brinkm.n＇s m.del for the flow inside the com.os- ite sphere and the Stokes equation for the flow in the spheri- cal container were used to study the m.tion. The torque ex- perienced by the porous spherical particle in the presence of cavity is obtained. The wall correction factor is calculated. in the lim.ting cases, the analytical solution describing the torque for a porous sphere and for a solid sphere in an un- bounded m.dium.are obtained from.the present analysis.
