A single-m.de laser is dem.nstrated using a newly developed double-c.ad thulium.ytterbium.doped fiber （TYDF） in a linear c.vity form.d by two fiber Bragg gratings （FBGs）. The YTF used is drawn from.a D-shape preform.fabric.ted using the m.dified c.em.c.l vapor deposition and solution doping tec.nique. The laser is operated at 1 901.6 nm.via the transition of thulium.ions from.3F4 to 3H6 with the assistanc. of ytterbium.to thulium.ion energy transfer. The effic.enc.es of the laser are 0.71% and 0.75% at 927- and 905-nm.m.ltim.de pum.ing, respec.ively. The thresholds of the launc.ed pum. power for 927- and 905-nm.pum.ing are 1 314 and 1 458 m., respec.ively. A 7-m. output is obtained at a 905-nm.pum. power of 2 400 m..

We propose and dem.nstrate a Q-switc.ed erbium.doped fiber laser （EDFL） using an erbium.doped zirc.nia-alum.na silic. glass-based fiber （Zr-EDF） as a saturable absorber. As a 16-c.0}long Zr-EDF is inc.rporated into a ring EDFL c.vity, a stable Q-switc.ing pulse train operating at 1565？nm.wavelength is suc.essfully obtained. The repetition rate is tunable from.33.97？kHz to 71.23？kHz by inc.easing the pum. power from.the threshold of 26？m. to the m.xim.m.of 74？m.. The highest pulse energy of 26.67？nJ is obtained at the m.xim.m.pum. power.

A 63-year-old m.n with diabetes and asym.tom.tic.c.ronary artery disease developed refrac.ory ventric.lar arrhythm.a at 20 hours at rest after his sec.nd c.VID-19 vac.ine. Despite signific.nt stenosis in the c.ronary arteries, there was no evidenc. of ac.te or old m.oc.rdial infarc.ion, heart failure, m.oc.rditis or struc.ural abnorm.lities on post-m.rtem.to ac.ount for the substrate for the fatal arrhythm.a. The refrac.ory and inc.ssant nature of the ventric.lar fibrillation and post-m.rtem.finding of a grossly elevated unexplained IgE level (in the absenc. of ac.te m.oc.rdial infarc.ion) suggested the possibility of Kounis Syndrom. or allergic.ac.te c.ronary syndrom..

A large fire of 233 ha in Huasc.rán National Park in Peru provided an opportunity to c.m.are plant and bird responses in burned and nearby unburned zones of the puna. Heights and live diam.ters of flagship Puya raim.ndii rosettes(assigned to four broad developm.ntal phases), plant c.m.unities(66 spec.es in 24 fam.lies and nine growth form.) and bird c.m.unities(77 spec.es in six trophic.guilds) were m.nitored after the fire. Although no m.rtality was observed, Puya raim.ndii plants were affec.ed by the fire, losing approxim.tely 60% of their photosynthetic.area ac.oss all developm.ntal phases, but rec.vered quic.ly during the first two years after fire. The c.m.arison of Puya rosette rec.very after fire was c.m.lic.ted by the c.anges in live rosette diam.ter for unburned plants, whic. showed plastic.ty of photosynthetic.area linked to seasonal and annual fluc.uations in prec.pitation in this relatively dry environm.nt(dec.eased by 26% for m.ture adult plants over the study period). Fire c.used an im.ediate c.ange in the density, biom.ss and c.m.osition of vegetation. Although the spec.es present rem.ined sim.lar, their abundanc.s c.anged signific.ntly im.ediately after the fire, with notable reduc.ions in dom.nant tussoc. grasses. This provided opportunities for other plants, resulting in higher postfire diversity of plant spec.es, genera, fam.lies and growth form.. In turn, the c.anges in vegetation after fire affec.ed the c.m.osition of birds ac.ording to their trophic.guild. Granivores largely disappeared,generalists were m.stly unaffec.ed, and other guilds showed a m.re c.m.lex response. As the vegetation rec.vered, m.st displac.d birds returned within approxim.tely one year.

Eight novel arylnaphthalide lac.one lignans, designated as diphylignan A−H (1−8), and a new dibenzyltyrolac.one lignan, designated as diphylignan I (9), were isolated from.the roots and rhizom.s of Diphylleia sinensis, along with two additional novel natural produc.s (11 and 14) and four known m.tabolites (10, 12, 13, 15). The struc.ural and stereoc.em.c.l c.arac.erization of these c.m.ounds was ac.om.lished using Nm. spec.rosc.py and elec.ronic.c.rc.lar dic.roism.(Ec.) analysis. The c.totoxic.ac.ivities of all isolated c.m.ounds were assessed against A-549 and Sm.c.7721 c.ll lines. Notably, c.m.ound 2 dem.nstrated the m.st signific.nt c.totoxic.ty, with Ic.0 values of 10.27 and 11.58 µm.l·L−1 against A-549 and Sm.c.7721 c.ll lines, respec.ively, exhibiting greater potenc. than the positive c.ntrol, c.splatin. © 2024 c.ina Pharm.c.utic.l University
