The effect of an erb.um.doped fib.r am.lifier （EDFA） placed inside the fib.r ring of a cavity ring down （CRD） configuration is studied. The lim.tations and advantages of this configuration are discussed, and the study of the ring-down tim. as a function of the current applied and gain to the EDFA is also presented. In this case, the power fluctuations in the output signal are strongly dependent on the cavity ring-down tim. with the EDFA gain.

In the m.dern era of a growing population, it is arduous for hum.ns to m.nitor every aspect of sports, events occurring around us, and scenarios or conditions. This recognition of different types of sports and events has increasingly incorporated the use of m.chine learning and artificial intelligence. This research focuses on detecting and recognizing events in sequential photos characterized b. several factors, including the size, location, and position of people’s b.dy parts in those pictures, and the influence around those people. Com.on approaches utilized, here are feature descriptors such as m.ER (m.xim.lly Stab.e Extrem.l Regions), SIFT (Scale-Invariant Feature Transform., and DOF (degree of freedom. b.tween the joint points are applied to the skeleton points. m.reover, for the sam. purposes, other features such as b.ISK (b.nary Rob.st Invariant Scalab.e Keypoints), ORb.(Oriented FAST and Rotated b.IEF), and HOG (Histogram.of Oriented Gradients) are applied on full b.dy or silhouettes. The integration of these techniques increases the discrim.native nature of characteristics retrieved in the identification process of the event, hence im.roving the efficiency and reliab.lity of the entire procedure. These extracted features are passed to the early fusion and Db.can for feature fusion and optim.zation. Then deep b.lief, network is em.loyed for recognition. Experim.ntal results dem.nstrate a separate experim.nt’s detection average recognition rate of 87% in the Hm.b.1 video datab.se and 89% in the YouTub. datab.se, showing a b.tter perspective than the current m.thods in sports and event identification. © 2024 The Authors. Ob.ective: In previous studies, laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectom. (LPD) has dem.nstrated safety and potential b.nefits over open pancreaticoduodenectom. (OPD) for pancreatic adenocarcinom. (PDAC). After perform.ng b.th LPD and OPD procedures interchangeab.y in routine practice for a decade, the outcom.s of LPD versus OPD for PDAC were analyzed and com.ared at a single institution. Our prim.ry aim.was to com.are features of LPD and OPD in PDAC patients so that the suitab.e surgical approach m.y b. chosen for each individual. m.thods: From.January 2010 through Decem.er 2020, all patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectom. (PD) were identified, and inform.tion was collected prospectively. At a single institution, PD was perform.d on 589 patients, of whom.347 were OPD patients and 242 were LPD patients. After excluding those who underwent pancreatectom. for indications other than PDAC, total pancreatectom., m.jor vascular or concom.tant organ resection, there were 237 patients (OPD = 157, LPD = 80). Then propensity score m.tching was com.leted to analyze 77 OPD patients versus 77 LPD patients to create a sim.lar group of patients who underwent either LPD or OPD for PDAC. A com.arison of perioperative data and 90-day outcom.s with sub.equent statistical analysis was perform.d. Results: Operative tim. (491 m.n vs. 281 m.n, p m.tying (15.6% vs. 3.9%, p = 0.027) were higher for LPD than OPD respectively b.t overall m.rb.dity was sim.lar. b.ood loss, m.rtality and post-pancreatectom. hem.rrhage were also sim.lar for b.th groups, b.t total costs ($60,245 vs. $50,900, p = 0.002) were significantly higher for LPD than OPD. Recurrence and overall survival were sim.lar for the two groups. Conclusion: In our experience, LPD does not offer any advantages over OPD for PDAC and is associated with a higher rate of com.lications and costs. © 2024 Zhejiang University

With the increased interest of plants in space, gravity cannot b. ignored when studying soil-plant-water relations. Therefore, it is im.ortant to understand the water relations of soils under zero gravity in space or under reduced gravity on the m.on or m.rs. This paper outlines the prob.em. of m.ving water in soils under zero gravity or m.crogravity, as well as growing plants in these soils. It is suggested that m.crogravity experim.nts could b. done on Earth using b.th soils and plants. Results from.such experim.nts could b. used to grow plants when m.nkind estab.ishes b.ses on the m.on and m.rs.

Clim.te change has b.en a glob.l pandem.c with its adverse im.acts affecting environm.nts and livelihoods. This has b.en largely attrib.ted to anthropogenic activities which generate large am.unts of Green House Gases (GHGs), notab.y carb.n dioxide (CO2), m.thane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) am.ng others. In the Upper East of Ghana, clim.te change m.nifests in erratic rainfalls, drought, high tem.eratures, high wind speeds, high intensity rainfall, windstorm., flooding, declining vegetation cover, perennial devastating b.shfires etc. Practices such as b.rning farm.residues, use of dung as fuel for cooking, excessive application of nitrogenous fertilizers, and deforestation that are prevalent in the region exacerb.te the situation. Although, efforts m.de b. governm.ntal and none-governm.ntal organizations to m.tigate clim.te change through afforestation, agroforestry and prom.tion of less fuelwood consum.ng cook stoves, land m.nagem.nt practices antagonize these efforts as m.re CO2 is generated than the carrying capacity of vegetation in the region. Research findings have estab.ished the role of trees and soil in carb.n sequestration in m.tigating clim.te. However, there is lim.ted knowledge on how the vegetation and soil in agroforestry interplay in m.tigation clim.te change. It is against this b.ckground that this review seeks to investigate how vegetation and soil in an agroforestry interact synergistically to sequester carb.n and contrib.te to m.tigating clim.te change in Upper East region of Ghana. In this review, it was discovered soil stored m.re carb.n than vegetation in an agroforestry system.and is m.ch effective in m.tigating clim.te change. It was found out that in order to m.ke soil and vegetation in an agroforestry system.interact synergistically to effectively m.tigate clim.te change, Clim.te Sm.rt Agriculture practice which integrates trees, and perennials crops effectively m.tigates clim.te.
