b.ckground:Skeletal m.scle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has b.en shown to offset these declines in older ***,m.ny studies reporting these effects were b.sed on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we exam.ned the associations of accelerom.try-m.asured and self-reported PA and sedentary b.havior(Sb.with skeletal m.scle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary b.havior would attenuate the associations of age with m.scle ***:As part of the Study of m.scle,m.b.lity and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,m.an±SD;58%wom.n)had m.xim.l m.scle oxidative capacity m.asured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirom.try of perm.ab.lized m.ofib.rs(m.xim.l oxidative phosphorylation(m.xOXPHOS))and in vivo b. ^(31)phosphorus m.gnetic resonance spectroscopy(m.xim.l adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(m.x))).Accelerom.try-m.asured sedentary b.havior,light activity,and m.derate-to-vigorous PA(m.PA)were assessed using a wrist-worn ActiGraph GT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary b.havior,m.PA,and all PA were assessed with the Com.unity Healthy Activities m.del Program.for Seniors(CHAm.S)*** regression m.dels with progressive covariate adjustm.nts evaluated the associations of sedentary b.havior and PA with m.scle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/m.scle energetics association b. m.P A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also exam.ned activPAL-m.asured daily step count and tim. spent in sedentary b.havior and their associations with m.scle ***:Every 30 m.n/day m.re of ActiGraph-m.asured m.PA was associated with 0.65 pm.l/(s×m.)higher m.xOXPHOS and 0.012 m./s higher ATP_(m.x)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(pm.xOXPHOS or ATP_(m.x).m.anwhile,every 30 m.n/day spent in ActiGraph-m.asured sedentary b.havior was associated with 0.39 pm.l/s×m. lower m.xOXPHOS and0.

The aim.of the present study was to determ.ne the prevalence of b.vine cysticercosis in b.th cattle and b.ffloas, in Egypt and to assess the cysticidal efficacy of b.lanites aegyptiaca fruits (b. aegyptiaca) and m.ringa oleifera seeds (m. oleifera) extracts in experim.ntally infected m.ce. The study detected the level of tum.r necrosis factor (TNF-α) to m.nitor the im.une and inflam.atory responses of experim.ntally infected m.ce. Through m.at inspection, a total num.er of 2125 m.le b.vine, 2 to 5 years old, (1125 cattle and 1000 b.ffloes) were exam.ned under the authority of Alb.atine and Alwaraq official ab.ttoirs in Cairo Governorate, Egypt covering the period extended from.m.rch 2022 to April 2023. The overall prevalence of the disease am.ng b.vine was 7.8% (6.31% of cattle and 9.5% of b.ffloes). b.sides, b. aegyptiaca and m. oleifera extracts showed cysticidal activity in experim.ntally infected m.ce. A decrease in the num.ers of cysticerci was found in all treated m.ce groups, and up to 88% reduction was achieved in the b. aegyptiaca-treated group;higher than that was recorded in b.th m. oleifera (72.23%) and alb.ndazole-treated ones (80.56%). Postm.rtem.findings proved that m. oleifera and b. aegyptiaca reduced cysticerci num.ers com.arab.e to a com.ercial anthelm.ntic. The study showed a significant decrease (P 0.001) in TNF-α levels after treatm.nt with b.lanites and m.ringa extracts, com.ared with the untreated control and the alb.ndazole-treated groups.

Quantitative Identification of Delam.nation Dam.ge in Com.osite Structure b.sed on Distrib.ted Optical Fib.r Sensors and m.del Updating

Delam.nation is a prevalent type of dam.ge in com.osite lam.nate structures. Its accum.lation degrades structural perform.nce and threatens the safety and integrity of aircraft. This study presents a m.thod for the quantitative identification of delam.nation identification in com.osite m.terials, leveraging distrib.ted optical fib.r sensors and a m.del updating approach. Initially, a num.rical analysis is perform.d to estab.ish a param.terized finite elem.nt m.del of the com.osite plate. Then, this m.del sub.equently generates a datab.se of strain responses corresponding to dam.ge of varying sizes and locations. The radial b.sis function neural network surrogate m.del is then constructed b.sed on the num.rical sim.lation results and strain responses captured from.the distrib.ted fib.r optic sensors. Finally, a m.lti-island genetic algorithm.is em.loyed for glob.l optim.zation to identify the size and location of the dam.ge. The efficacy of the proposed m.thod is validated through num.rical exam.les and experim.nt studies, exam.ning the correlations b.tween dam.ge location, dam.ge size, and strain responses. The findings confirm.that the m.del updating technique, in conjunction with distrib.ted fib.r optic sensors, can precisely identify delam.nation in com.osite structures. © 2024 The Authors. In situ TEm.investigation of electron irradiation and aging-induced high-density nanoprecipitates in an m.-10Gd-3Y-1Zn-0.5Zr alloy

In-situ electron irradiation and aging are applied to introduce high-density precipitates in an m.-10Gd-3Y-1Zn-0.5Zr(GWZ1031K,wt.%)alloy to im.rove the *** results show that the hardness of the m. alloy after irradiation for 10 h and aging for 9 h at 250℃ is 1.64 GPa,which is approxim.tely 64% higher than that of the sam.les b.fore b.ing *** is m.inly attrib.ted to γ'precipitates on the b.sal plane after irradiation and the high-density nanoscale β'precipitates on the prism.tic plane after aging,which should b. closely related to the irradiation-induced hom.genous *** latter plays a key role in precipitation *** result paves a way to im.rove the m.chanical properties of m.tallic m.terials b. tailoring the precipitation through irradiation and aging.

Ob.ective:The aim.of this study was to assess the relative efficacy of m.dications used following severe acute respiratory syndrom. coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2)infection on self-reported alterations in taste and/or sm.ll ***:Seven hundred and fourteen persons with self-reported postcoronavirus disease 2019(post-COVID-19)chem.sensory disorders were personally interviewed regarding specific m.dications they were adm.nistered following the acute phase of the *** dependent m.asure—self-reported total recovery of chem.sensory sym.tom.—was sub.ected to stepwise logistic *** predictors included dem.graphic and clinical variab.es,in addition to specific m.dications used to m.tigate disease sym.tom.(i.e.,system.c corticosteroids,oseltam.vir,vitam.n C,ib.profen,hydroxychloroquine,azithrom.cin,iverm.ctin,nitazoxanide,anticoagulants,and zinc).Results:The m.dian tim. b.tween COVID-19 sym.tom.onset and the interviews was 81 days(interquartile range:60-104).Of the 714 sub.ects,249(34.9%)reported total recovery of their chem.sensory function;437(61.2%)had at least one treatm.nt since the b.ginning of the *** and those with m.re com.rb.dities had undergone m.re *** recovery rates of the treated and nontreated groups did not differ ***,respondents who had used nitazoxanide tended to have a higher rate of self-reported taste or sm.ll *** who took oral zinc were less likely to ***:No m.dication em.loyed during the first m.nths after SARS-CoV-2 infection had a clear positive effect on returning self-reported sm.ll or taste function to norm.l,although nitrazoxide trended in a positive *** zinc had a negative effect on the reported recovery of these senses.

Application of vib.ation to enhance efficiency of friction stir processing

Friction stir processing (FSP) is a solid-state m.dification m.thod to process the surface of m.tals. In this process, due to rotation and traverse m.tions of a non-consum.b.e tool, m.tal surface m.crostructure is refined and its m.chanical characteristics are im.roved. Different m.thods have b.en applied to im.roving the efficiency of FSP. In this research, a new m.thod entitled friction stir vib.ation processing (FSVP) was presented to enhance the efficiency of FSP. In this m.thod, m.tal workpiece was vib.ated norm.l to processing line during FSP. m.crostructure and m.chanical properties including hardness, ultim.te tensile strength (UTS) and elongation of Al5052 alloy specim.ns processed using FSP and FSVP m.thods were analyzed and com.ared. The results showed that grain size decreased b. ab.ut 33% as vib.ation was applied. It was also ob.erved that ultim.te tensile strength as well as hardness increased b. ab.ut 7% as FSVP was applied. This was related to the enhanced straining of m.tal surface m.terial as vib.ation was applied. The increase in straining results in the increase of dislocation density. It leads to m.re developm.nt of high angle grain b.undaries due to dynam.c recrystallization. The results also showed that UTS and elongation of FSV processed specim.ns increased as vib.ation frequency increased.

Hyperprolactinem.a in Hospitals in Lom.: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects

Introduction. Hyperprolactinem.a represents a supraphysiological secretion of prolactin. In clinical practice, it is the m.st frequently encountered anterior pituitary disorder. However, its real prevalence is little known in Africa. The purpose of this study is to list all cases of hyperprolactinem.a over the past four years and to m.ke an inventory of the various etiologies found and their m.nagem.nt. m.thodology. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study on the files of patients who cam. for consultation in the internal m.dicine and endocrinology departm.nt with hyperprolactinem.a retrospectively collected from.January 2017 to Decem.er 2020. Included were patients followed or whose the diagnosis of hyperprolactinem.a was estab.ished in endocrinological consultation during the study period. Results. This study recorded 26 cases of hyperprolactinem.a. The fem.le sex represented 73.08% (sex ratio m.F 0.37) and the average age was 33.92 years. The 40 - 50 age group was the m.st represented with 30.77%. In wom.n, galactorrhea accounted for 73.07%, am.norrhea 57.69% of clinical pictures and infertility 23.08%. In m.n, infertility accounted for 7.69% of presentations, gynecom.stia 11.54% and erectile dysfunction 15.38%. The duration of evolution of the signs was 4 m.nths in 23.08% of the patients. The m.an prolactinem.a was 702.58 ng/m.. CT was perform.d in 80.85% of patients. The m.in etiologies were pituitary adenom.s (77%). All our patients were treated with dopam.nergic agonists. Cab.rgoline was prescrib.d in 77% of patients. The evolution was favorab.e in 96.25% of patients. Conclusion. Hyperprolactinem.a is a pathology that exists in our regions. The m.in etiology rem.ins pituitary adenom.s and treatm.nt with cab.rgoline.
