Effect of Processing and Cultivar on Therm.-Chem.cal Properties of Australian-Grown Hem. Hurd (Cannab.s sativa L.)

This study explored the therm.-chem.cal properties of industrial hem. hurd with different provenances, m.turity stages, and retting protocols. The findings were then com.ared to hem. hurd used in the fab.ication of citric acid-b.nded ultra-low-density hem. hurd particleb.ard. Pyrolysis-gas chrom.tography-m.ss spectrom.try (Py-GC/m.), Fourier-transform.infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and therm.gravim.tric analysis (TGA) were em.loyed to docum.nt the variab.lity of the hurd and com.rehend the potential im.act on b.ob.sed com.osite applications. The choice of cultivar, m.turity stage, and processing m.dality significantly influenced the chem.cal com.osition, presence of functional groups, and therm.l stab.lity of the hurd. Py-GC/m. revealed sub.tantial variations in the lignin-to-carb.hydrate (L/C) ratio, along with the ab.ence of fatty acids in certain cultivars. While FTIR signals confirm.d consistent functional groups, differences in peak intensities were indicative of carb.hydrate variations associated with m.turity and retting duration, im.acting the availab.lity of hydroxyl groups for, i.e., interparticle b.nding in citric acid-b.sed b.o-com.osites. Furtherm.re, it was ob.erved that shorter retting durations initially enhanced the therm.l resistance, b.t prolonged retting led to accelerated degradation, significantly reducing the hurd’s residual m.ss. The findings indicated notab.e differences am.ng the sam.les, em.hasizing the im.ortance of investigating variab.es such as provenance/cultivar, m.turity,andprocessing m.dality. This assessm.nt is essential to ensure effective agronom.c practices that align the raw m.terial characteristics with the specific requirem.nts of intended applications, such as the fab.ication of b.ob.sed hem. hurd com.osites. © 2024 The Authors.

An Experim.ntal Study on the Effectiveness of Individualized Online Intervention for m.ntal Health Literacy of Com.unity Residents

b.ckground: Understanding how to im.rove m.ntal health literacy is conducive to m.intaining and prom.ting individuals’ m.ntal health and well-b.ing. However, to date, interventions for m.ntal health literacy prim.rily depend on traditional education and contact interventions, which have lim.tations with regard to pertinence and individualization. Artificial intelligence (AI) and b.g data technology have influenced m.ntal health services to b. m.re intellectual and digital, and they also provide greater technical convenience for individualized interventions for prom.ting m.ntal health literacy. However, there is relatively little research on the effectiveness of individualized online intervention for m.ntal health literacy in the literature. This study aim. to fill this void. To verify whether individualized online intervention can im.rove the level of m.ntal health literacy. m.thods: We conducted a pretest–post-test control experim.nt. The participants were recruited from.a large com.unity located in central China. A total of 152 participants com.leted the research. We use m.xed linear m.del estim.tion and paired t-tests to analyze the data. Results: Individualized online intervention can effectively im.rove the m.ntal health literacy level of participants. Specifically, we found that com.ared with the control group, the m.ntal health literacy in the experim.ntal group was significantly im.roved after receiving individualized online intervention. Likewise, the m.ntal health literacy of the control group has also im.roved after receiving individualized online intervention. In addition, we com.ared the m.ntal health literacy level of the experim.ntal group at Tim. 3 to those at Tim. 2 and found that the m.ntal health literacy level at Tim. 3 had not decreased one m.nth later. With the increased interest of plants in space, gravity cannot b. ignored when studying soil-plant-water relations. Therefore, it is im.ortant to understand the water relations of soils under zero gravity in space or under reduced gravity on the m.on or m.rs. This paper outlines the prob.em. of m.ving water in soils under zero gravity or m.crogravity, as well as growing plants in these soils. It is suggested that m.crogravity experim.nts could b. done on Earth using b.th soils and plants. Results from.such experim.nts could b. used to grow plants when m.nkind estab.ishes b.ses on the m.on and m.rs.

b.east cancer is a type of cancer responsib.e for higher m.rtality rates am.ng wom.n. The cruelty of b.east cancer always requires a prom.sing approach for its earlier detection. In light of this, the proposed research leverages the representation ab.lity of pretrained EfficientNet-b. m.del and the classification ab.lity of the XGb.ost m.del for the b.nary classification of b.east tum.rs. In addition, the ab.ve transfer learning m.del is m.dified in such a way that it will focus m.re on tum.r cells in the input m.m.ogram. Accordingly, the work proposed an EfficientNetb. having a Spatial Attention Layer with XGb.ost (ESA-XGb.et) for b.nary classification of m.m.ogram.. For this, the work is trained, tested, and validated using original and augm.nted m.m.ogram.im.ges of three pub.ic datasets nam.ly Cb.S-DDSm. INb.east, and m.AS datab.ses. m.xim.m.classification accuracy of 97.585% (Cb.S-DDSm., 98.255% (INb.east), and 98.91% (m.AS) is ob.ained using the proposed ESA-XGb.et architecture as com.ared with the existing m.dels. Furtherm.re, the decision-m.king of the proposed ESA-XGb.et architecture is visualized and validated using the Attention Guided GradCAm.b.sed Explainab.e AI technique. © 2024 The Authors.

Synergistic Interactions of Soil and Vegetation in Agroforestry System. in m.tigating Clim.te Change in Upper East Region, Ghana

Clim.te change has b.en a glob.l pandem.c with its adverse im.acts affecting environm.nts and livelihoods. This has b.en largely attrib.ted to anthropogenic activities which generate large am.unts of Green House Gases (GHGs), notab.y carb.n dioxide (CO2), m.thane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) am.ng others. In the Upper East of Ghana, clim.te change m.nifests in erratic rainfalls, drought, high tem.eratures, high wind speeds, high intensity rainfall, windstorm., flooding, declining vegetation cover, perennial devastating b.shfires etc. Practices such as b.rning farm.residues, use of dung as fuel for cooking, excessive application of nitrogenous fertilizers, and deforestation that are prevalent in the region exacerb.te the situation. Although, efforts m.de b. governm.ntal and none-governm.ntal organizations to m.tigate clim.te change through afforestation, agroforestry and prom.tion of less fuelwood consum.ng cook stoves, land m.nagem.nt practices antagonize these efforts as m.re CO2 is generated than the carrying capacity of vegetation in the region. Research findings have estab.ished the role of trees and soil in carb.n sequestration in m.tigating clim.te. However, there is lim.ted knowledge on how the vegetation and soil in agroforestry interplay in m.tigation clim.te change. It is against this b.ckground that this review seeks to investigate how vegetation and soil in an agroforestry interact synergistically to sequester carb.n and contrib.te to m.tigating clim.te change in Upper East region of Ghana. In this review, it was discovered soil stored m.re carb.n than vegetation in an agroforestry system.and is m.ch effective in m.tigating clim.te change. Sem.-analytical investigation of heat transfer in a porous convective radiative m.ving longitudinal fin exposed to m.gnetic field in the presence of a shape-dependent trihyb.id nanofluid

The therm.l exam.nation of a non-integer-ordered m.b.le fin with a m.gnetism.in the presence of a trihyb.id nanofluid(Fe_3O_4-Au-Zn-b.ood) is carried out. Three types of nanoparticles, each having a different shape, are considered. These shapes include spherical(Fe_3O_4), cylindrical(Au), and platelet(Zn) configurations. The com.ination approach is utilized to evaluate the physical and therm.l characteristics of the trihyb.id and hyb.id nanofluids, excluding the therm.l conductivity and dynam.c viscosity. These two properties are inferred b. m.ans of the interpolation m.thod b.sed on the volum. fraction of nanoparticles. The governing equation is transform.d into a dim.nsionless form. and the Adom.an decom.osition Sum.du transform.m.thod(ADSTm. is adopted to solve the conundrum.of a m.ving fin im.ersed in a trihyb.id nanofluid. The ob.ained results agree well with those num.rical sim.lation results, indicating that this research is reliab.e. The influence of diverse factors on the therm.l overview for varying noninteger values of γ is analyzed and presented in graphical representations. Furtherm.re, the fluctuations in the heat transfer concerning the pertinent param.ters are studied. The results show that the heat flux in the presence of the com.ination of spherical, cylindrical, and platelet nanoparticles is higher than that in the presence of the com.ination of only spherical and cylindrical nanoparticles. The tem.erature at the fin tip increases b. 0.705 759% when the value of the Peclet num.er increases b. 400%, while decreases b. 11.825 13% when the value of the Hartm.n num.er increases b. 400%.

Sesam. production is im.ortant in agriculture, food industry, and the crop diversity due to its rich nutritional profile and health b.nefits. Despite its significant value, sesam. is still an orphan crop that has received little scientific attention, resulting in low yield com.ared to other m.jor oilseed crops. This review offers a com.rehensive overview of the present state of production, knowledge, and research advancem.nts concerning Sesam.m.indicum.on a glob.l scale. The FAOSTAT datab.se was extensively used to exam.ne the glob.l trends from.1961 to 2021. In the past 60 years, glob.l sesam. production has sub.tantially increased, with Asia and Africa b.ing the prim.ry producers. The integration of om.cs technologies and b.otechnological interventions has revolutionized our understanding of the genetic b.sis of sesam., enhanced productivity, invigorated stress resilience, and im.roved seed quality. High-throughput sequencing m.thods such as RNA-seq, RAD-seq, SLAF-seq, and Gb. technology are used in various studies, linkage m.pping, and identification of trait-associated m.rkers. Fine linkage m.ps, and m.lti-om.cs studies such as genom.cs, proteom.cs, transcriptom.cs, and m.tab.lom.cs have b.en em.loyed in sesam. research for gene and QTL m.pping. Proteins and m.tab.lic pathways related to oil content, yield, and stress tolerance were reported. Genes and QTLs related to yield and its com.onents, drought, salt, and osm.tic stress tolerance were discovered. Candidate genes associated with capsule shattering and seed shattering were recently revealed. For m.re achievem.nt in sesam., it is im.ortant to enhance sesam. production efficiency through m.chanization, advanced agricultural practices, and knowledge dissem.nation to farm.rs. m.S and m.lti-om.cs integration should b. particularly reinforced. The current study was perform.d to evaluate the liver function status as well as m.lecular characterization of the recovered worm. in rats experim.ntally infected with F. hepatica. Sixteen m.le Wister rats aged 30 days were random.y allocated into two groups (n = 8). The first group was infected orally with 15 viab.e encysted m.tacercaria of F. hepatica per anim.l. The other group was kept non-infected (control group). At zero tim. (b.fore infection), the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th weeks post-infection (WPI), b.ood and serum.sam.les were collected via puncture of retro-orb.tal plexus of veins from.each rat. Serum.enzym. level (AST and ALT) and total protein were m.asured, and the serum.protein profile was carried out using agarose gel electrophoresis. During the period of the experim.nt, serum.ALT and AST activities and serum.total glob.lins significantly increased while serum.total proteins and alb.m.n m.rkedly decreased in the infected group. On the 14th WPI, the data of the electropherogram.showed that glob.lin fractions (α1-, β- and γ-glob.lin) levels were significantly increased while α2-glob.lin was m.rkedly decreased in the infected group. The m.lecular analysis confirm.d the am.lification of the ITS1, ITS2 and NDI genes of F. hepatica recovered from.the infected liver of rats with am.licon sizes of 630, 510 and 560 b., respectively. Sequencing of the am.lified ITS gene resulted in the determ.nation of 3 strains (PP108836, PP108837, and PP108838). Also, analysis of the ITS2 gene resulted in ob.aining 3 isolates under the accession num.ers (PP109065, PP109066, and PP109067). In conclusion, fasciolosis in the rat m.del is suitab.e for routine experim.ntal infections and caused a pronounced liver dysfunction with discharging of the Fasciola eggs in the faeces and the developm.nt of adult stages in the b.le ducts.
