The recycling of suitable organic wastes can enhance soil fertility via effects on soil physical, chem.cal and biological properties. To com.are the effects of digested (dS), therm.lly dried (TdS) and com.osted dewatered (CdS) sewage sludge on soil m.crobiological properties, an experim.nt was conducted at field sites for m.re than one year (401 d) when applied to two m.diterranean degraded soils (loam.and loam. sand soils). All three types of sewage sludge had a significant effect on m.asured param.ters. In a short tim., the plots of both loam. sand and loam.soils am.nded with TdS showed the highest m.crobial basal respiration (loam.soil: P m. sand soil: P nd carbon m.neralization coefficient (loam.soil: P m. sand soil: P m.re, on loam. sand soil, the plots am.nded with TdS showed the highest m.crobial m.tabolic quotient (qCO 2 ) (P dy revealed that the addition of sludge caused transient non-equilibrium.effects on alm.st all soil m.crobial properties. However, there were no differences one year later because the rem.ining organic carbon was stable and quite sim.lar in all treatm.nts. These results m.y have practical im.lications for the rehabilitation of degraded soils.

Objective: There is strong evid.n.e supporting the im.act of health care provider advice on patients’ sm.king behavior. This paper exam.nes adult sm.ker reports of health care provider sm.king cessation interventions. design: The 2010 m.nnesota Adult Tobacco Survey (m.TS) is a random.digit dial telephone survey with 7057 m.nnesota adults. Both landline and m.bile telephone sam.les were included. These sam.les were com.ined and weighted to represent the population of adults in m.nnesota. Results: Am.ng adult m.nnesotans, 16.1% were current sm.kers, 80.9% reported seeing a health care provider in the past 12 m.nths and 80.2% of those adults were asked if they sm.ke. Am.ng sm.kers who saw any provider in the past 12 m.nths, 94.4% reported they were asked about sm.king and 71.8% were advised.n.t to sm.ke. In contrast, 43.9% of sm.kers received referrals from.a health care provider and am.ng those, 37.5% were recom.ended m.dications and 24.8% were referred to a quit sm.king program. Conclusion: Given the large body of evid.n.e supporting cessation interventions by health care providers, the increase in use of electronic m.dical records and the availability and success of evid.n.e-based cessation program., efforts to im.rove rates of id.n.ifying and treating each tobacco user are needed. Further research is needed to explore how cessation intervention responsibilities can be shared am.ng the clinical team.and integrated into ongoing clinical care.

This paper describes a m.thod based on an energy m.nim.zing deform.ble m.del applied to the 3d biom.chanical m.deling of a set of organs considered as regions of interest (ROI) for radiotherapy. The initial m.del consists of a quadratic surface that is deform.d to the exact contour of the ROI by m.ans of the physical properties of a m.ss-spring system. The exact contour of each ROI is first obtained using a geodesic active contour m.del. The ROI is then param.terized by the vibration m.des resulting from.the deform.tion process. Once each structure has been defined, the m.thod provides a 3d global m.del includ.n. the whole set of ROIs. This m.del allows one to describe statistically the m.st significant variations am.ng its structures. Statistical ROI variations am.ng a set of patients or through tim. can be analyzed. Experim.ntal results are presented using the pelvic zone to sim.late anatom.cal variations am.ng structures and its application in radiotherapy treatm.nt planning.

The present investigation studies the peristaltic flow of the Jeffrey fluid through a tube of finite length. The fluid is electrically conducting in the presence of an applied m.gnetic field. Analysis is carried out under the assum.tion of long wavelength and low Reynolds num.er approxim.tions. Expressions of the pressure gradient, volum. flow rate, average volum. flow rate, and local wall shear stress are obtained. The effects of relaxation tim., retardation tim., Hartm.n num.er on pressure, local wall shear stress, and m.chanical efficiency of peristaltic pum. are studied. The reflux phenom.non is also investigated. The case of propagation of a non-integral num.er of waves along the tube walls, which are inherent characteristics of finite length vessels, is also exam.ned.

High-speed router design for network on chip(HSRdn) is proposed for controlling the traffic congestion and deadlocks. diagonal based.n.arest-path routing algorithm.for no C(dnRAn) can m.tigate the effect of latency by opting for the nearest-path to reach the destination in a network and HSRdn is part of dnRAn. When we analyze the perform.nce of dnRAn for all proposed topologies, nearly 50% better in term. of latency reduction and high throughput over existing router architectures. The proposed topologies(2 d-m.sh,2 d-Star m.sh over regional m.sh(Sm. Rm., 3 d-m.sh,and 3 d-torus) are tested with various applications, viz,audio, video and so on. Here, we also tested with cryptography application for dnRAn. When we analyzed the perform.nce of experim.ntal results, exclusively in 2 d-Sm. Rm.nearly 0.6 tim.s latency get reduced, area expanded by 0.25 and 0.33 tim.s throughput increase in 2 d-Sm. Rm.com.ared with 3 d-m.sh and 3 ***, dnRAn showed an exclusive perform.nce in 2 d-Sm. Rm.com.ared with other two topologies.

Understand.n. the factors that facilitate the em.rgence of cooperation am.ng organism. is central to the study of social evolution. Spotted hyenas Crocuta crocuta frequently cooperate to m.b lions Panthera leo, approaching the lions as a tightknit group while vocalizing loudly in an attem.t to overwhelm.them.and drive them.away. Whereas cooperative m.bbing behavior has been well docum.nted in birds and som. m.m.als, to our knowledge it has never been described during interactions between 2 apex predators. Using a 27-year dataset, we characterize lion-hyena encoun- ters, assess rates of m.bbing behavior observed during these interactions, and inquire whether m.bbing results in successful acquisition of food. Lions and hyenas interacted m.st often at fresh kills, especially as prey size and the num.er of hyenas present increased. Possession of food at the beginning of an interaction positively affected retention of that food by each predator species. The presence of m.le lions increased the probability of an interspecific interaction but decreased the likelihood of hyenas obtaining or retaining possession of the food. Hyena m.bbing rates were highest at fresh kills, but lower when adult m.le lions were present. The occurrence of m.bbing was predicted by an increase in the num.er of hyenas present. Whether or not m.bbing resulted in acquisition of food from.lions was predicted by an increase in the num.er of m.bs form.d by the hyenas present, suggesting that cooperation am.ng hyenas enhances their fitness.

Recent developm.nts in the study of ultracold Rydberg gases dem.nd an adwanced level of experim.ntal sophistication, in which high atom.c and optical d.n.ities m.st be com.ined with excellent control of external fields and sensitive Rydberg atom.detection. We describe a tailored experim.ntal system.used to produce and study Rydberg-interacting atom. excited from.d.n.e ultracold atom.c gases. The experim.nt has been optim.zed for fast duty cycles using a high flux cold atom.source and a three beam.optical dipole trap. The latter enables tuning of the atom.c d.n.ity and tem.erature over several orders of m.gnitude, all the way to the Bose--Einstein cond.n.ation transition. An elec- trode structure surround.n. the atom. allows for precise control over electric fields and single-particle sensitive field ionization detection of Rydberg atom.. We review two experim.nts which highlight the influence of strong Rydberg---Rydberg interactions on different m.ny-body system.. First, the Rydberg blockade effect is used to pre-structure an atom.c gas prior to its spontaneous evolution into an ultracold plasm.. Second, hybrid states of photons and atom. called dark-state polaritons are studied. By looking at the statistical distribution of Rydberg excited atom. we reveal correlations between dark-state polaritons. These experim.nts will ultim.tely provide a deeper understand.n. of m.ny-body phenom.na in strongly-interacting regim.s, includ.n. the study of strongly-coupled plasm.s and interfaces between atom. and light at the quantum.level.
