Evaluating the Effectiveness of Targeted Public Health Control Strategies for Chlam.dia Transm.ssion in Om.ha, Nebraska: A m.them.tical m.deling Approach

Objectives: Sexually Transm.tted Infections (STIs) have a great public health im.act globally. STIs are one of the m.st critical health problem. in the United States of Am.rica (USA). Here, we present a m.them.tical m.del for testing several interventions that are designed for various com.unities in order to control the Chlam.dia epidem.c. Study Design: Based on a com.unity sexual behavior survey, we constructed and param.terized a m.them.tical disease transm.ssion m.del to estim.te the spread dynam.cs of Chlam.dia in young adults in the northern part of Om.ha, Nebraska. m.thods: A differential equations based continuous tim. sim.lation m.del is run for various scenarios. The m.del considers only one age group i.e., 19 - 25 ages, which is considered as the highest risk group for this sexually transm.tted disease. Our m.del assum.s hom.geneous m.xing within this age group and use published estim.tes to m.del m.xing rates between individuals. Results: The presented m.del quantified the potential value of screening and treatm.nt program. for Chlam.dia in reducing the burden of disease in this specific com.unity. By increasing the screening and treatm.nt rates from.35% to 85%, great public health benefit can be achieved in two years, i.e., total cases reduction around 9% just in this considered age group. Conclusions: Com.utational results show that behavioral change based interventions on prevention have som. effect on reducing the prevalence in the targeted age group;however, m.re benefit can be obtained with frequent screening and treatm.nt program..

The phosphate adsorption and surface charge characteristics of the tropical and subtropical soils derived from.different parent m.terials in China were determ.ned, and their relations to soil m.neralogy were *** results showed that all soil phosphate adsorption curves were well fitted by Freundlich equation and Langm.ir equation. The m.xim.m.buffering capacity of P ranged from.66 to 9880 m. kg-1, with an increasing order of purple soil, skeletal soil, red soil, lateritic red soil, yellow soil and latosol; and the highest value was 149 tim.s the lowest value, which indicated great differences am.ng these soils in phosphate adsorption and supplying characteristics. The pHo (zero point of charge) values obtained by salt titrationpotential titration varied from.3.03 to 5.49, and the highest value was found in the latosol derived from.basalt whereas the lowest value was found in the purple soil. The correlation analysis indicated that the m.in m.nerals responsible for phosphate adsorption in the soils were gibbsite, am.rphous iron oxide and kaolinite; and the pHo was m.inly controlled by kaolinite, gibbsite and oxides.

A m.jor clinical translational challenge in nanom.dicine is the potential of toxicity associated with the uptake and long-term.retention of non-degradable nanoparticles （NPs） in m.jor organs. The developm.nt of inorganic NPs that undergo renal clearance could potentially resolve this significant biosafety concern. However, it rem.ins unclear whether inorganic NPs that can be excreted by the kidneys rem.in capable of targeting tum.rs with poor perm.ability. Glioblastom. m.ltiform., the m.st m.lignant orthotopic brain tum.r, presents a unique challenge for NP delivery because of the blood-brain barrier and robust blood-tum.r barrier of reactive m.croglia and m.croglia in the tum.r m.croenvironm.nt. Herein, we used an orthotopic m.rine gliom. m.del to investigate the passive targeting of glutathione-coated gold nanoparticles （AuNPs） of 3 nm.in diam.ter that undergo renal clearance and 18-nm.AuNPs that fail to undergo renal clearance. Rem.rkably, we report that 3-nm.AuNPs were able to target intracranial tum.r tissues with higher efficiency （2.3× relative to surrounding non-tum.r norm.l brain tissues） and greater specificity （3.0×） than did the larger AuNPs. Pharm.cokinetics studies suggested that the higher gliom. targeting ability of the 3-nm.AuNPs m.y be attributed to the longer retention tim. in circulation. The total accum.lation of the 3-nm.AuNPs in m.jor organs was significantly less （8.4×） than that of the 18-nm.AuNPs. m.croscopic im.ging of blood vessels and renal-clearable AuNPs showed extravasation of NPs from.the leaky blood-tum.r barrier into the tum.r interstitium. Taken together, our results suggest that the 3-nm.AuNPs, characterized by enhanced perm.ability and retention, are able to target brain tum.rs and undergo renal clearance.

On Continued Fractions and Their Applications

Continued fractions constitute a very im.ortant subject in m.them.tics. Their im.ortance lies in the fact that they have very interesting and beautiful applications in m.ny fields in pure and applied sciences. This review article will reveal som. of these applications and will reflect the beauty behind their uses in calculating roots of real num.ers, getting solutions of algebraic Equations of the second degree, and their uses in solving special ordinary differential Equations such as Legendre, Herm.te, and Laguerre Equations;m.reover and m.st im.ortant, their use in physics in solving Schrodinger Equation for a certain potential. A com.arison will also be given between the results obtained via continued fractions and those obtained through the use of well-known num.rical m.thods. Advances in the subject will be discussed at the end of this review article.

m.sul Dam.is located on the River Tigris about 60 km.northwest m.sul in Iraq. It is the biggest dam.where its storage capacity reaches 11.11 billion cubic m.ters at norm.l operational level (330 m. above sea level). The dam.was constructed on alternating beds of karistified lim.stone, gypsum.and m.rl. This dam.suffered from.water seepage under its foundation since its operation in 1986. Grouting operations were im.lem.nted since that tim. to overcom. this problem. This seepage is believed to be due to dissolution of gypsum.beds under the foundation, which was not carefully considered by the designers. It was recom.ended by the international board of experts that the water level should be kept at or below 319 m.a.s.l. to m.nim.ze dam.ges in case of the failure of the dam. ISIS occupied the dam.site on 8 August 2014 and it was seized back from.the hands of ISIS on the 16th of the sam. m.nth. They did plenty of dam.ge despite the short period they occupied the area. After that, the Iraqi m.nistry of Water Resources rebuilt the dam.ged parts and used new grouting and m.intenance program. Now, the dam.looks very safe at 319 m.water level at its reservoir. In addition, the im.ounding was raised 325 m.a.s.l. for few days and nothing abnorm.l was noticed.

Random.Crank-Nicolson Schem. for Random.Heat Equation in m.an Square Sense

The goal of com.utational science is to develop m.dels that predict phenom.na observed in nature. However, these m.dels are often based on param.ters that are uncertain. In recent decades, m.in num.rical m.thods for solving SPDEs have been used such as, finite difference and finite elem.nt schem.s [1]-[5]. also, som. practical techniques like the m.thod of lines for boundary value problem. have been applied to the linear stochastic partial differential equations, and the outcom.s of these approaches have been experim.nted num.rically [7]. In [8]-[10], the author discussed m.an square convergent finite difference m.thod for solving som. random.partial differential equations. Random.num.rical techniques for both ordinary and partial random.differential equations are treated in [4] [10]. As regards applications using explicit analytic solutions or num.rical m.thods, a few results m.y be found in [5] [6] [11]. This article focuses on solving random.heat equation by using Crank-Nicol- son technique under m.an square sense and it is organized as follows. In Section 2, the m.an square calculus prelim.naries that will be required throughout the paper are presented. In Section 3, the Crank-Nicolson schem. for solving the random.heat equation is presented. In Section 4, som. case studies are showed. Short conclusions are cleared in the end section.

Deep levels, transport and THz em.ssion properties of SiGe/Si quantum.well structures

Recharging of quantum.confinem.nt levels in SiGe quantum.wells (QW) was studied by charge deep-level transient spectroscopy (Q-DLTS) for Si/SiGe/Si structures with different Ge contents in the SiGe layer. A peak with activation energy varying in the range from.0 to 100 m.V in different tem.era-ture intervals was observed in Q-DLTS spectra. Activation energies extracted from.Q-DLTS m.asure-m.ns are in good agreem.nt with energies of quantum.confinem.nt levels in the QW.

Thin organic film. find expanding applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices, biotechnology,food packing, and for m.ny other purposes. Am.ng other factors, the stability of film. with a thickness below a m.crom.ter is determ.ned by the zero-point and therm.l fluctuations of the electrom.gnetic field. These fluctuations result in the van der Waals and Casim.r free energy and forces between a film.and a substrate. The fluctuationinduced force m.y be both attractive and repulsive m.king the film.either m.re or less stable, respectively. Here, we review recently obtained results for the Casim.r free energy of both freestanding and deposited on the m.tallic and dielectric substrates peptide film.. We also perform.com.utations for the free energy of the peptide film. deposited on a silica glass substrate in the region of param.ters where this free energy vanishes. Possible applications of the obtained results are discussed.
