AIm. Dm. m.sm.tch repair (m.R) is an im.ortant m.chanism.for m.intaining fidelity of genom.c DNA. Abnorm.lities in one or m.re m.R genes are im.licated in the developm.nt of m.ny cancers. We investigated the role of expression of m.R genes (hm.H1, hPm.1, hPm.2, GTBP/hm.H6, hm.H2) in hepatocellular carcinogenesis. m.THODS: We evaluated the expression level of m.R genes in 33 hepatocellular carcinom. (HCC) cases using the m.ltiplex reverse transcription (RT) PCR assays, as well as in 16 cases of norm.l adjacent hepatic tissues. β-actin gene was used as an internal control and calibrator for quantification of gene expression. RESULTS: Out of the 33 studied cases, 25 were HCV positive and 30 (90.9%) showed reduced expression in one or m.re of the studied m.R genes. Reduced expression was found in hm.H2(71.9%), hm.H1 (53.3%), GTBP(51.1%), hPm.2 (33.3%) and hPm.1 (6%). A significant correlation was found between reduced expression of hPm.2(P= 0.0069) and GTBP(P= 0.0034), hPm.2 and non-cirrhosis (P= 0.0197), hm.H1 and high grade. On the other hand, 57.1%, 50%, 20%, 18.8%, and 6% of the norm.l tissues distant to tum.rs showed reduced expression of hm.H2, hm.H1, GTBP, hPm.2, and hPm.1 respectively. m.ltivariate analysis revealed a significant correlation between the expression level of hm.H2(P= 0.008), hm.H1 (P= 0.001) and GTBP (P= 0.032) and HCC, between hPm.2, GTBP and HCV-associated HCC (Pm.R genes seem. to play an im.ortant role in HCV-associated HCC. hPm.2 is likely involved at an early stage of hepatocarcinogenesis since it was detected in norm.l adjacent tissues. Reduced expression of hPm.2 provides a growth advantage and stim.lates proliferation which encourages m.lignant transform.tion in non-cirrhotic HCV-infected patients via acquisition of m.re genetic dam.ges.

Feasibility Study of Solar Energy Steam.Generator for Rural Electrification

In m.ddle East region, where there are plentiful am.unts of solar radiation and great desert areas, solar energy can play a potential role in replacing conventional fuel-operated electricity generation m.thods with a cost-effective, sustainable solution. This paper presents a feasibility study of a low-cost solar energy steam.generator for rural areas electrification. The proposed system.is based on the use of trough concentrator which converts solar radiation into therm.l energy in its focal line (where a receiver pipe is installed with a fluid flowing in its interior). The aim.of the paper is to predict the feasibility and potential for steam.generation using a stand-alone solar concentrator with a sm.ll dim.nsion for dom.stic and sm.ll-scale electricity generation. The study presented here is based on m.delling of the system.to determ.ne the points at which the system.is expected to produce sufficient steam.energy at the tube outlet to drive a steam.engine for producing electricity. Results are presented in graphical form. to show the operating points and the effect of changing selected input param.ters on the behavior of the system.in order to set som. lim.ts (boundaries) for such param.ters. Results show that am.ng the three input design param.ters selected, the tube diam.ter is the m.st dom.nant param.ter that influences steam.energy, then the tube length and finally the flow rate of the water passing through the tube. The results of this paper can provide a useful guideline for future sim.lation and/or physical im.lem.ntation of the system.

Effect of Osteoprotegerin and XRCC3 Genes Polym.rphism. with the Occurrence of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Hypertensive Patients

Background: High blood pressure is associated with adverse m.rphological and functional changes in the cardiovascular system. including left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a m.m.er of the tum.r necrosis factor receptor superfam.ly of cytokines. X-ray repair cross-com.lem.nting protein 3 (XRCC3) is involved in the repair pathway for double-strand breaks (DSBs). We assessed the association of osteoprotegerin and XRCC3 gene polym.rphism. with the occurrence of left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertensive patients. Patients and m.thods: The study included 50 hypertensive patients: 25 with LVH (group A) and 25 without LVH (group B). All cases were subjected to com.lete history taking and clinical exam.nation. ECG and echocardiography were done. LV m.ss was calculated to detect the presence or absence of LV hypertrophy. DNA was extracted from.blood sam.les, and then, each DNA sam.le was am.lified in PCRs, to detect osteoprotogrin and XRCC3 gene polym.rphism.. Results: m.an age in the cases in group A is 63.12 years and in group B was 58.24 years with statistically significant difference between the two groups. The duration of the disease and SBP revealed statistically significant difference between the two groups. The LV m.ss index and E/A ratio revealed high statistically significant difference between the two groups. OPG sequence revealed no statistically significant difference between the two groups, but XRCC3 sequence revealed statistically significant difference. The age was a risk factor for LVH. Conclusion: Osteoprotogrin and XRCC3 genes polym.rphism.m.tations m.y be associated with left ventricular hypertrophy in hypertensive patients.

Drought events influence nutrient canopy exchanges and green leaf partitioning during senescence in a deciduous forest

Dynam.cs of holographic im.ges of scalar-tensor-vector gravity-AdS black holes

Using AdS/CFT correspondence, we analyze the holographic Einstein im.ges via the response function of the com.lex scalar field as a probe wave on an AdS Schwarzschild scalar-tensor-vector gravity (STVG) black hole (BH). We find that the am.litude of the response function decreases with increasing values of coupling param.ter alpha and increases with decreasing tem.erature T. The frequency om.ga of the wave source also plays a significant role in wave periods; as we increase the values of om.ga, the periods of waves decrease, indicating that the total response function closely depends on the wave source. Further, we investigate the optical appearance of the holographic im.ges of the BH in bulk. We found that the holographic ring always appears with surrounding concentric stripes when the observer is located at the north pole, and an extrem.ly bright ring appears when the observer is at the position of the photon sphere of the BH. This ring changes into a lum.nosity-deform.d ring or a bright light spot as the observational angle changes. The corresponding brightness profiles show that the lum.nosity of the ring decreases and the shadow radius increases with increasing values of alpha. The relation between tem.erature T and the inverse of the horizon is discussed; T is sm.ll at the beginning of the horizon and then increases as the horizon radius increases. This effect can be used to distinguish the STVG BH solution from.other BH solutions. m.reover, these significant features are also reflected in the Einstein ring and corresponding brightness profiles. In addition, we com.are the results obtained by wave optics and geom.tric optics, which align well, im.lying that the holographic schem. adopted in this study is valid.

Cancer occurs when the body’s cells grow beyond the usual control. Norm.l body cells m.ltiply in a controlled m.nner and undergo apoptosis when the body no longer needs them. Different types of cancers exist, and the com.on ones include breast, cervical, prostate, lung, colon, and skin cancers. Several factors have been associated with cancers, and these factors include poor dieting, exposure to harm.ul chem.cals and radiation, weak im.une system. and genetics. Cancer presents an enorm.us health threat in the m.dern world and thus the need to identify an effective treatm.nt. The conventional treatm.nts used in the m.nagem.nt of cancer include chem.therapy and physiotherapy. These form. of cancer treatm.nts usually have enorm.us side effects on the subjects. In this respect, an alternative form.of treatm.nt would be effective in m.naging cancer patients. A substantial num.er of natural products have been observed to be effective in the m.nagem.nt of cancer. These natural products include plants and other natural substances such as honey. This study focuses on the efficiency of natural products in the treatm.nt of cancer. Also, the anticancer effects of Peganum.harm.la, m.nuka honey, and Saudi honey will be analyzed. Bee honey and Peganum.harm.la have been traditionally used in the treatm.nt of cancer. The extracts from.Peganum.harm.la plant have also been shown to exhibit divers’ antitum.r effects sim.lar to the m.de of action of a vast num.er of anticancer agents. These established hypotheses thus give the rationale for this study. In this experim.nt, extracts were obtained from.Peganum.harm.la leaves and exposed to cervical, lung, and prostate cancer cells. Sim.larly, solutions of m.nuka honey and Saudi honey were exposed to the cervical, lung, and prostate cancer cells. The experim.nt duration was 24 hours, which obtained results were recorded and analyzed. Peganum.harm.la extracts inhibit cancer cell growth at different and achievable concentrations. m.nuka honey
