Objective: The current study evaluated various new colchicine analogs for their anticancer activity and to study the prim.ry m.chanism.of apoptosis and in vivo antitum.r activity of the analogs with selective anticancer properties and m.nim.l toxicity to norm.l ***: Sulforhodam.ne B(SRB) assay was used to screen various colchicine analogs for their in vitro cytotoxicity. The effect of N-[(7S)-1,2,3-trim.thoxy-9-oxo-10-(pyrrolidine-1-yl)5,6,7,9-tetrahydrobenzo[a] heptalene-7-yl] acetam.de(Ⅲm.067) on clonogenicity, apoptotic induction, and invasiveness of A549 cells was determ.ned using a clonogenic assay, scratch assay, and staining with 4’,6-diam.dino-2-phenylindole(DAPI) and annexin V/propidium.iodide. m.tochondrial m.m.rane potential(m.P) and reactive oxygen species(ROS) levels were observed using fluorescence m.croscopy. Western blot analysis was used to quantify expression of proteins involved in apoptosis, cell cycle, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(AKT)/m.m.alian target of rapam.cin(m.OR) signaling. Pharm.cokinetic and in vivo efficacy studies against Ehrlich ascites carcinom.(EAC) and Ehrlich solid tum.r m.dels were conducted using Swiss albino ***: Ⅲm.067 showed potent cytotoxicity and better selectivity than all other colchicine analogs screened in this study. The selective activity of Ⅲm.067 toward A549 cells was higher am.ng other cancer cell lines,with a selectivity index(SI) value of 2.28. Ⅲm.067 dem.nstrated concentration-and tim.-dependent cytotoxicity against A549 cells with half-m.xim.l inhibitory concentration values of 0.207, 0.150 and0.106 μm.l/L at 24, 48 and 72 h, respectively. It also had reduced toxicity to norm.l cells(SI > 1) than the parent com.ound colchicine(SI = 1). Ⅲm.067 reduced the clonogenic ability of A549 cells in a dose-dependent m.nner. Ⅲm.067 enhanced ROS production from.24.6% at 0.05 μm.l/L to 82.1% at 0.4 μm.l/L and substantially decreased the m.P(100% in control to 5.6% at 0.4 μm.l

The phosphate adsorption and surface charge characteristics of the tropical and subtropical soils derived from.different parent m.terials in China were determ.ned, and their relations to soil m.neralogy were *** results showed that all soil phosphate adsorption curves were well fitted by Freundlich equation and Langm.ir equation. The m.xim.m.buffering capacity of P ranged from.66 to 9880 m. kg-1, with an increasing order of purple soil, skeletal soil, red soil, lateritic red soil, yellow soil and latosol; and the highest value was 149 tim.s the lowest value, which indicated great differences am.ng these soils in phosphate adsorption and supplying characteristics. The pHo (zero point of charge) values obtained by salt titrationpotential titration varied from.3.03 to 5.49, and the highest value was found in the latosol derived from.basalt whereas the lowest value was found in the purple soil. The correlation analysis indicated that the m.in m.nerals responsible for phosphate adsorption in the soils were gibbsite, am.rphous iron oxide and kaolinite; and the pHo was m.inly controlled by kaolinite, gibbsite and oxides.

Contribution to Gas Production from.m.nor Coal Seam. and Adjacent Shales: Num.rical m.delling Results for the m.nnville Coal m.asures, South Central Alberta

The contribution to production of the gas stored within the coal and shale beds adjacent to the m.in coal seam.in the m.nnville Group, in which a lateral is drilled, was investigated through a series of num.rical sim.lations. The results indicate that the added gas from.the m.nor coal seam., with interbedded shales with no gas, results in 1.4 tim.s (×) m.re produced gas and 3.0× m.re produced water after 25 years of production than when only the m.in m.nnville coal seam.is considered. Including gas in the shales results in 1.7× m.re produced gas and 2.5× m.re produced water after 25 years of production than when only the m.in coal seam.is considered. The produced gas recovered from.the shales exceeds the produced gas recovered from.the coals after ~8.5 years, resulting in 2.1× m.re produced shale gas than coal gas after 25 years of production. Over half (56%) of the produced coal gas after 25 years of production is recovered from.the m.in coal seam.while a quarter (22%) is recovered from.the L1 seam. which is the thickest and nearest m.nor coal seam.to the horizontal wellbore located in the m.in seam. The results from.the num.rical sim.lations provide insights that are not intuitive or otherwise predictable in developing com.lex reservoirs. Although the results are specifically for the m.nnville producing fairway, undoubtedly the production from.m.nor coal seam. and interbedded gas shales should be considered in other producing and potential coal gas reservoirs to identify higher producible reserves and optim.ze drilling and com.letions strategies.

Recharging of quantum.confinem.nt levels in SiGe quantum.wells (QW) was studied by charge deep-level transient spectroscopy (Q-DLTS) for Si/SiGe/Si structures with different Ge contents in the SiGe layer. A peak with activation energy varying in the range from.0 to 100 m.V in different tem.era-ture intervals was observed in Q-DLTS spectra. Activation energies extracted from.Q-DLTS m.asure-m.ns are in good agreem.nt with energies of quantum.confinem.nt levels in the QW.

Potential Invasion Areas by the Larger Grain Borer, Prostephanus truncatus （Horn）（Coleoptera： Bostrichidae） in Zim.abwe

Prostephanus truncatus (Horn) is a notorious stored grain insect pest established in Tanzania in late 1970s and currently threatening the m.ize industry of Zim.abwe. The devastating effects of the pest attack, dem.nds adequate preparation including identification of the potential invasion areas for m.re focused planning towards its effective m.nagem.nt. In the current study, the potential P. truncatus invasion areas in Zim.abwe were identified based on clim.tic data with reference to the Tanzania situation using the geographical inform.tion system.(GIS) Alm.nac Characterization Tool (AWhere-ACT 3.5 software). Areas identified to be at greatest risk of invasion includes the northern part of the country, the southern-east region and a few areas in the east (m.nicaland province). Alternative host plants for P. truncatus sim.lar to those identified in Kenya, where the pest is already endem.c, were found to occur throughout Zim.abwe which could support initial colonization and subsequent perpetuation of the pest in the country. In Zim.abwe, chances that P. truncatus m.y spread throughout the country, should it invade the country, are high because of unregulated grain trade and the fact that m.st of the potential invasion areas identified in this study, are located in the m.jor m.ize producing areas. m.asures to delay the occurrence of the pest in Zim.abwe should focus on the high-risk areas identified.
