It is unknown whether the famous sex-related difference in emotion processing is accounted for by biological sex,gender role,or their *** clarify the issue,in Study 1 we recorded event-related potentials in response to negative and positive images of diverse intensities when 47 masculine(26 males)and 47 feminine(22 males)subjects performed a non-emotional *** occipital P1 and N1 amplitudes were larger in women than in men,while feminine subjects showed larger N1 amplitudes than masculine subjects,regardless of ***,feminine subjects showed enhanced frontocentral N2(210–270 ms)amplitudes for highly and mildly negative than for neutral stimuli,while masculine subjects showed an emotion effect only for highly negative *** feminine-specific effect for mildly negative stimuli was positively correlated to the feminine score,and this correlation was located to the anterior cingulate and the superior and medial frontal ***,feminine but not masculine subjects showed enhanced parietal P3(330–560 ms)amplitudes for highly and mildly positive than for neutral stimuli,an effect positively related to the feminine score and localized to the precuneus,posterior cingulate,and superior temporal *** learning analyses verified that single-trial N2 and P3 amplitudes of feminine subjects reliably discriminated the intensity of negative and positive stimuli,*** ecological considerations,in Study 2 we used an observational approach(n=300)and confirmed that feminine gender role,rather than biological sex,predicted individual differences in daily experience of emotion-related psychopathological *** findings provide solid evidence for the critical impact of gender role rather than sex on emotional susceptibility.

Intermediate level of stress is beneficial for brain functions, whereas extreme low level or high level of stress is deleterious. We have previously shown that chronic exposure to high doses of corticosterone （cORT） suppressed hippocampal plasticity and physical exercise in terms of running counteracted the detrimental effects of cORT treatment. We aimed to study whether a mild stress, that mimicked by a treatment with low cORT dose, improved hippocampal plasticity in terms of hippocampal cell proliferation and dendritic remodeling, and to examine whether running with cORT treatment showed an additive effect on improving hippocampal plasticity. The rats were treated with 20 mg/kg cORT for 14 days with or without running, followed by morris water maze test or forced swim test. The hippocampal proliferating cells was labeled by intraperitoneal injection of 5-bromo-2＇-deoxyuridine. The dendritic morphology was analyzed using Golgi staining method. Treatment with 20 mg/kg cORT alone yielded a higher number of hippocampal cell proliferation and significantly increased dendritic branching compared to vehicle-treated non-runners, but had no behavioral effects. In contrast, cORT treatment with running showed an additive increase in hippocampal cell proliferation and dendritic remodeling that was associated with improved spatial learning and decreased depression-like behavior; however, there was no additive improvement in behavior compared to vehicle-treated runners. These findings suggest that mild stress does not always cause detrimental effect on the brain, and combining mild stress with running could promote hippocampal plasticity via inducing cell proliferation and dendritic remodeling.

This study investigates the relationship between circulation patterns and austral summer temperature anomalies in southern Africa. The results show that the formation of continental lows tends to increase the thickness of the lower atmosphere. Further, the distinct variabilities of high and low pressure under the circulation types, influence air mass advection from the adjacent oceans, as well as atmospheric stability over land. Stronger anticyclonic circulation at the western branch of the mascarene high-pressure system enhances the low-level cold air advection by southeast winds,decreases the thickness, and lowers the temperature over a majority of the land in southern Africa. conversely, a weaker mascarene High, coupled with enhanced cyclonic activity in the southwest Indian Ocean increases low-level warm air advection and increases temperature anomalies over vast regions in southern Africa. The ridging of a closed South Atlantic anticyclone at the southern coast of southern Africa results in colder temperatures near the tip of southern Africa due to enhanced low-level cold air advection by southeast winds. However, when the ridge is weak and westerly winds dominate the southern coast of southern Africa, these areas experience temperature increases. The northward track of the Southern Hemisphere mid-latitude cyclone, which can be linked to the negative Southern Annular mode, reduces the temperature in the southwestern part of southern Africa. Also, during the analysis period, El Ni?o was associated with temperature increases over the central parts of southern Africa;while the positive Indian Ocean dipole was linked to a temperature increase over the northeastern, northwestern, and southwestern parts of southern Africa.

From PBL to OBE in medical Education: What is the catch in Pursuing Higher Education?

This communication sets out to delineate the link between two widely known educational concepts in recent development of higher education, the problem-based learning(PBL) and outcome-based education(OBE). In the contemporary literature of medical education, basic or clinical, PBL and OBE have often been noted and cited. Yet, they seemed to be treated as two independent domains of educational theories, one about "problems/cases" and the other about "outcomes/competencies".In reality, both represent an intertwined concept of action learning; i.e., learning by doing in learner-centered approach in a context of social process, as attempts to help break away from the teacher-centered traditional rote learning. Also, measurements of learners' competencies in both PBL and OBE are linked to the same assessment pyramid known as Blooms' s taxonomy of cognition. PBL, since its inception in 1969, has not reached its full educational potential despite its world-wide adoption in varying formats in which the practice of PBL has not been systematically or faithfully subscribing to the learning outcomes expected of PBL On the other hand, OBE, better conceptualized in 1994, brought forward considerable controversies in its educational effectiveness, because lacking a better defined platform of teaching and learning activities, the practice of OBE unfortunately often resulted in the selection of activities not conducive to high level learning outcomes. This communication attempts to link PBL closely with OBE in the effective delivery of medical education(which can be expanded to high education at large) based on authors' experiences and personal viewpoints.

A chemo-mechanical model is developed to investigate the effects on the stress development of the coating of polycrystalline Ni-rich LiNixmnyco_(z)O_(2)(x≥0.8)(Nmc)particles with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)(PEDOT).The simulation results show that the coating of primary Nmc particles significantly reduces the stress generation by efficiently accommodating the volume change associated with the lithium diffusion,and the coating layer plays roles both as a cushion against the volume change and a channel for the lithium transport,promoting the lithium distribution across the secondary particles more ***,the lower stiffness,higher ionic conductivity,and larger thickness of the coating layer improve the stress *** paper provides a mathematical framework for calculating the chemo-mechanical responses of anisotropic electrode materials and fundamental insights into how the coating of Nmc active particles mitigates stress levels.
