Species,growth form,and biogeographic diversity of summit vegetation along an elevation gradient in the tropical Andes:a baseline for climate change monitoring

Tropical alpine ecosystems exhibit outstanding plant diversity and endemism while being particularly sensitive to the impacts of climate *** understanding spatiotemporal changes in plant species composition,richness and community structure along tropical alpine altitudinal gradients is of primary importance,both the functional and historical/biogeographic dimensions of vegetation diversity remain largely *** used Generalized Linear models and multivariate analyses to assess changes in species,growth forms,and biogeographic groups richness and abundance,in response to habitat variables along an elevation gradient in seven summits(3800 to 4600 m asl)in the Venezuelan Andes,studied using the standardized approach of the GLORIA-Andes monitoring *** habitat variables assessed were soil temperature(-10 cm),soil organic matter,slope inclination,and substrate *** found 113 species,representing72 genera,32 families,13 growth forms,and seven biogeographic origins,that included 25%of endemic *** observed richer vegetation,both in terms of species and growth forms,in summits with higher soil temperatures and higher SOm content,as well as higher biogeographic origin richness with increasing soil *** presence of holarctic elements increased toward higher elevations,while the occurrence of austral antarctic elements increased toward lower *** results indicate that biogeographic and functional approaches to vegetation diversity capture well the effect of abiotic filtering on community structuring in these tropical alpine *** findings constitute an important baseline for monitoring vegetation dynamics linked to climate change in the Venezuelan Andes by highlighting the functional and historical perspective on vegetation analyses,in contrast with more traditional approaches,based only on taxonomic species diversity.

Trace elements, isotopic modeling and U-Th-Pb SHRImP zircon age constraints are used to reconstruct the eruption history and magmatic processes of the Piedra Parada Caldera. In the early Eocene, the crystal-poor Barda Colorada ignimbrite(BCI), having >>15% micro-porphyritic crystals with respect to magmatic components, erupted a volume estimated in more than 300 km^3. The Piedra Parada caldera is located in the Patagonian Andes foreland, at the southern end of the calderas field of the Pilcaniyeu Volcanic Belt(PVB). This belt is related to an extensional tectonic setting as a result of the collision of the Farallon-Aluk ridge with South America, which enabled the development of a transform ocean/continental plate margin followed by the detachment of the Aluk plate and the opening of a slab window. The BCI extra-caldera Plateau is a >100 m thick deposit, having a lower unit with high silica(Si O_2> 76 wt.%),potassium poor rhyolitic composition(trondhjemitic like magma), and an upper unit with normal to high potassium rhyolitic composition(granitic like magma). A trace elements modeling of the BCI units shows that the BCI lower and upper units did not evolve from fractionation or immiscibility in the shallow magma reservoir. The BCI also have a primitive isotopic signature(initial87 Sr/86 Sr =0.7031-0.7049 and ε_(Nd)= +3.4 to +3.65). Thus, tectonic, compositional and isotopic constraints suggest the fast ascent of high silica magmas to a shallow reservoir, and point to an upper mantle origin for these rhyolitic magmas in a transitional(Orogenic-Anorogenic) tectono-magmatic setting. U-Th-Pb SHRImP zircon crystallization ages of the Syn-caldera stage BCI units(56 -51.5 ma) show a protracted life of 5 ma for this caldera reservoir. The age of 52.9 ± 0.3 ma is considered the best fit for the possible maximum age for the caldera collapse. Stride length-velocity relationship during running with body weight support

Background： Lower body positive pressure （LBPP） treadmills can be used in rehabilitation programs and/or to supplement tun mileage in healthy runners by reducing the effective body weight and impact associated with running. The purpose of this study is to determine if body weight support influences the stride length （SL）-velocity as well as leg impact acceleration relationship during running. methods： Subjects （n = 10, 21.4 ± 2.0 years, 72.4 ± 10.3 kg, 1.76 ± 0.09 m） completed 16 run conditions consisting of specific body weight support and velocity combinations. Velocities tested were 100%, 110%, 120%, and 130% of the preferred velocity （2.75± 0.36 m/s）. Body weight support conditions consisted of 0, 60%,5, 70%, and 80% body weight support. SL and leg impact accelerations were determined using a light-weight accelerometer mounted on the surface of the anterior-distal aspect of the tibia. A 4 × 4 （velocity x body weight support） repeated measures ANOVA was used for each dependent variable （a = 0.05）. Results： Neither SL nor leg impact acceleration were influenced by the interaction of body weight support and velocity （p 〉 0.05）. SL was least during no body weight support （p 〈 0.05） but not different between 60%, 70%, and 80% support （p 〉 0.05）. Leg impact acceleration was greatest during no body weight support （p 〈 0.05） but not different between 60%, 70%, and 80% support （p 〉 0.05）. SL and leg impact accelerations increased with velocity regardless of support （p 〈 0.05）. Conclusion： The relationships between SL and leg impact accelerations with velocity were not influenced by body weight support.

Objective: To explore anti-inflammatory activities of organic extract and its semi-purified fractions(ethanol, acetone, methanol/dichloromethane) from the mediterranean gorgonian Eunicella singularis. methods: The anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities were evaluated, using the carrageenan-induced rat paw edema model and the acetic acid writhing test in mice. The gastroprotective activity was determined using HCl/Et OH induced gastric ulcers in rats. The purification and structure elucidation of compound(s) from the more effective fraction were determined by chromatographic and spectroscopic methods and in comparison with data reported in the literature. Results: The fraction F-Et OH showed an important antiinflammatory activity associated with significant analgesic and gastroprotective properties. The purification and structure elucidation of compound(s) from this fraction lead to the identification of one diterpenoid and four sterols. Conclusions: These results suggested that components from the active fraction can be used to treat various anti-inflammatory diseases.

Chlorophyll Concentration and morphological Diversity in Corn Lines at Different Vegetative Stages

The objective of this study was to assess the chlorophyll content of corn lines at different vegetative stages and the diversity between them. The study was conducted in the experimental field of the Roque Institute of Technology (ITR) located in Roque, Celaya, Guanajuato, mexico. We used 32 corn lines from CImmYT and four lines from the breeding program of the ITR. The evaluation was conducted in the spring-summer cycle of 2014 at two planting dates. We used a completely randomized block design with three replications. The experimental unit consisted of two rows of five linear meters with a distance of 0.75 meters between rows. Chlorophyll was measured at six different stages: V6, VT, R3, R4, R5 and mF. The agronomic variables recorded were: PH, CH, LAC, LBC, FF, mF, Pm, CC, CL, DC, RC, KR and GY. The results of the analysis of variance showed significant differences between lines, dates and their interaction. On average, 18 lines were found with chlorophyll concentrations above 51 SPAD units in the two environments. This indicated that these materials had a high potential for field performance. Using cluster analysis UPGmA method, we identified seven groups for chlorophyll and eight groups for agronomic characteristics for a breeding program. The groups were associated to the homogeneous characteristics of each variable.

Growth curves fitted Penicillium digitatum were used to analyze the effect of temperature, pH and aw on their growth. To asses observance of independent variable effects on all growth parameters (λ, latency time, μ, growth rate and ymax maximal growth) a slow growth strain of P. digitatum was employed. Growth curves were obtained at different conditions of temperature (10?C - 40?C), pH (3.0 - 7.0) and water activity (0.800 - 0.990) and growth parameters were calculated by fitting of logistic model. Polynomial models were made by linear regression and all terms (linear, quadratic and interactive effects) were statistically significant (p meters, including maximal growth were affected by environmental conditions;pH effect was more important on maximal growth than that on lag time or growth rate. In some aspects results and modeling behavior of P. digitatum, are very similar to modeling of bacterial growth.

Structured Perovskite-Based Oxides: Use in the Combined methane Reforming

The behavior of metallic structured perovskite-based catalysts was evaluated in the combined methane reforming reaction with CO2-O2. The reaction conditions were established by varying the reaction temperature and reactor input composition in the range of 650 to 850℃ and CH4/CO2 ratio 1 to 5, respectively. The results of the catalytic tests at 750℃ showed a positive effect of the metallic structure, producing higher conversions and H2/CO ratios in the products compare to that obtained with the powder catalyst.

The recover from the excision in head and neck of femoral after therapy with low level laser

Degenerative articulate diseases, resulting from dysplasia and aseptic necrosis of the femoral head and neck, chronic dislocation of the femur and osteoarthrosis, are often treated surgically by an excision in the femoral head and neck. This procedure entails the formation of a false fibrous articulation, providing pain relief. The action of low level laser therapy (LLLT) has been described in orthopedic applications, to repair both bone and articular tissue. LLLT has demonstrated favorable results in vitro and in vivo in stimulating bone repair. A diode laser, 650 nm, with a potency of 30 mW, was used trans-surgically to irradiate. A diode laser (780 nm and the potency of 40 mW) was used on the skin for post-surgery applications. For the experiment, 10 clinically normal New Zealander rabbits underwent surgery and were then divided into two groups, one submitted to irradiation and the other kept for sham. Fifteen days after the surgery, samples of the newly formed tissue were collected from both groups, for macroscopic evaluation of the fibrous pseudo-articulation forming process on the irradiated and sham groups. The macroscopic and microscopic appearance of the samples, suggest that the utilization of the LLLT in the formation of fibrous pseudo-articulation was effective in accelerating the cicatrization process and in improving the quality of the formed tissue.
