The widespread uptake of different machine perfusion(mp)strategies for liver transplant has been driven by an effort to minimize graft injury.Damage to the cholangiocytes during the liver donation,preservation,or early posttransplant period may result in stricturing of the biliary tree and inadequate biliary drainage.This problem continues to trouble clinicians,and may have catastrophic consequences for the graft and patient.Ischemic injury,as a result of compromised hepatic artery flow,is a well-known cause of biliary strictures,sepsis,and graft failure.However,very similar lesions can appear with a patent hepatic artery and these are known as ischemic type biliary lesions(ITBL)that are attributed to microcirculatory dysfunction rather than main hepatic arterial compromise.Both the warm and cold ischemic period duration appear to influence the onset of ITBL.All of the commonly used mp techniques deliver oxygen to the graft cells,and therefore may minimize the cholangiocyte injury and subsequently reduce the incidence of ITBL.As clinical experience and published evidence grows for these modalities,the impact they have on ITBL rates is important to consider.In this review,the evidence for the three commonly used mp strategies(abdominal normothermic regional perfusion[A-Nrp],hypothermic oxygenated perfusion[HOpE],and normothermic machine perfusion[Nmp])for ITBL prevention has been critically reviewed.Inconsistencies with ITBL definitions used in trials,coupled with variations in techniques of mp,make interpretation challenging.Overall,the evidence suggests that both HOpE and A-Nrp prevent ITBL in donated after circulatory death grafts compared to cold storage.The evidence for ITBL prevention in donor after brain death grafts with any mp technique is weak.

Current status and recent advances of liver transplantation from donation after cardiac death

The last decade saw increased organ donation activity from donors after cardiac death (DCD). This contributed to a signif icant proportion of transplant activity. Despite certain drawbacks, liver transplantation from DCD donors continues to supplement the donor pool on the backdrop of a severe organ shortage. Understanding the pathophysiology has provided the basis for modulation of DCD organs that has been proven to be effective outside liver transplantation but remains experimental in liver transplantation models. research continues on how best to further increase the utility of DCD grafts. most of the work has been carried out exploring the use of organ preservation using machine assisted perfusion. Both ex-situ and in-situ organ perfusion systems are tested in the liver transplantation setting with promising results. Additional techniques involved pharmacological manipulation of the donor, graft and the recipient. Ethical barriers and end-of-life care pathways are obstacles to widespread clinical application of some of the recent advances to practice. It is likely that some of the DCD offers are in fact probably "prematurely" of-fered without ideal donor management or even prior to brain death being established. The absolute benef its of DCD exist only if this form of donation supplements the existing deceased donor pool; hence, it is worthwhile revisiting organ donation process enabling us to identify counter remedial measures.

Influence of barley inclusion method and protease supplementation on growth performance,nutrient utilisation,and gastrointestinal tract development in broiler starters

The influence of the method of barley inclusion(fine,coarse and whole barley)in a wheat-based diet and protease supplementation(0 and 0.20 g/kg)on growth performance,nutrient utilisation and gastrointestinal tract development of broilers(d 1 to 21)was evaluated in a 32 factorial arrangement.Whole barley(WB)grains were ground in a hammer mill to pass through the screen sizes of 2.5 and 8.0 mm to achieve fine(FB)and coarse(CB)barley particle sizes,respectively.A total of 288,one-day-old male broilers were allotted to 36 cages(6 cages/treatment;8 birds/cage).There was no significant(p>0.05)interaction between barley inclusion method and protease for any growth performance or nutrient utilisation parameters.Birds fed diets containing CB and WB showed higher(pry matter,nitrogen,calcium,gross energy,and ileal digestible energy compared to those fed FB diets.Compared to the birds fed FB diets,feed per gain was lower(prds fed diets made of WB.Fat digestibility of the birds fed CB was higher(prds.Compared to FB and CB diets,inclusion of WB resulted in heavier(prds but reduced(prd pH.Supplemental protease,however,had no effects(p>0.05)on growth performance and nutrient utilisation,most likely due to the well balanced digestible amino acids and high inherent digestibility of protein in the basal diet,and/or the presence of exogenous carbohydrase and phytase.In conclusion,the present results showed that the inclusion of coarsely ground and whole barley in a wheat-based diet can enhance nutrient and energy utilisation and is beneficial to the growth performance of young broilers.

Struvite recovery from Swine Waste Biogas Digester Effluent through a Stainless Steel Device under Constant pH Conditions

Objective To investigate the struvite precipitation under constant and non-constant pH conditions and to test a stainless steel device under different operating regimes to maximize the recovery of struvite. methods The molar ratio of NH4^＋： mg^2＋ pO43 was adjusted to 1： 1.2：1.2 and pH was elevated to 9.0. The absorbance measurement was used to trace the process of struvite crystallization. Wastewater and precipitate analysis was done by standard analytical methods. results The pH constant experiment reported a significantly higher struvite precipitation （24.6±0.86 g） than the non-constant pH experiment （19.8±1.86 g）. The SAr ranged from 5.6 to 8.2 g m^-2h^-1 to 3.6-4.8 g m^-2h^-1 in pH constant and non-constant experiments, respectively. The highest struvite deposit on the device was found in regime 3 followed by in regimes 2 and 4. The highest pO4^3- （97.2%） and NH4^＋（71%） removal was reported in the r1 regime. None of the influent Cu^2＋ or Zn^2＋ was precipitated on the device. Conclusion A higher struvite yield is evident in pH constant experiments. moreover, the stainless steel device facilitates the isolation of heavy metal free pure （around 96%） struvite from swine waste biogas digester effluent contaminated with Cu^2＋ and Zn^2＋ and the highest yield is attainable with the device operating at 50 rpm with agitation by a magnetic stirrer.

This paper provides outlines for Bionectriaceae,Calcarisporiaceae,Hypocreaceae,Nectriaceae,Tilachlidiaceae,Ijuhy-aceae,Stromatonectriaceae and Xanthonectriaceae with taxonomic treatments.We provide up-to-date DNA sequence-based phylogenies including combined gene analysis of ITS,LSU,rpb2,tef1 and tub2 for Hypocreales and accept 17 families.Three new families and 12 new species are introduced with descriptions and illustrations,while 13 new records and one new species combination are provided.Here we mainly detail the taxonomy of Bionectriaceae,Hypocreaceae,Nectriaceae and Tilachlidiaceae,Ijuhyaceae fam.nov.,Stromatonectriaceae fam.***.and Xanthonectriaceae fam.***.are introduced in this study based on phenotypic and molecular analyses.For each family we provide a list of accepted genera,the taxo-nomic history,morphological descriptions,taxonomic placement based on DNA sequence data and illustrate the type genus.representatives of each family are illustrated based on the type herbarium material or fresh specimens where available,or provide relevant references.Notes on ecological and economic importance of the families are also given.

Apolipoprotein B Is a Good Tool for Screening Dyslipidaemia in Apparently Healthy population

Dyslipidaemia is the major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) which is the leading cause of death in the world. Even though several lipid parameters are used, currently apolipoprotein B (apoB) is considered as the best predictor of CVD. Thus this study was carried out to find out the association between conventional lipid parameters and apoB in apparently healthy subjects. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in 170 apparently healthy volunteers who were not diagnosed with dyslipidaemia. After 12 hours overnight fast venous blood was obtained and Total cholesterol (TC), Triglyceride (TG), High density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were measured by enzymatic kit method. Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was calculated by Friedewald formula and apoB was analyzed by immune turbid metry using a Konelabp>®p> auto analyzer. Among the participants, majority (63.5%) were females. The mean value of apoB concentration of the population was 103 ± 42 mg/dL which was similar and not significantly different between the genders (males, 102 ± 37 mg/dL and Females, 104 ± 45 mg/dL). All lipid parameters showed a positive correlation with apoB concentration whereas HDL-C had a negative correlation (r = -0.165). HDL-C significantly (p reased with increase in apoB concentration while LDL-C, TC/HDL-C and non-HDL-C significantly (p reased with an increase in apoB concentration. present study suggests that serum apoB has better correlations and associations with the parameters that are used in conventional lipid profile and with markers recommended for diagnosing dyslipidaemia. Hence apoB could be used as a single marker for screening dyslipidaemia in apparently healthy people.

Facial Index Based 2D Facial Composite process for Forensic Investigation in Sri Lanka

The “facial composite” is one of the major fields in the forensic science that helps the criminal investigators to carry out their investigation process. The survey conducted by United States Law Enforcement Agencies confirms that 80% of the law enforcement agencies use computer automated composite systems whereas Sri Lanka is still far behind in the process of facial composite with lot of inefficiencies in the current manual process. Hence this research introduces a novel approach for the manual facial composite process, while eliminating the inefficiencies of the manual procedure in Sri Lanka. In order to overcome this situation, this study introduces an automated image processing based software solution with 2D facial feature templates targeting the Sri Lankan population. Thus, this was the first ever approach that creates the 2D facial feature templates by incorporating both medically defined indexes and relevant aesthetic aspects. Hence, this research study is comprised of two separate analyses on anthropometric indices and facial feature shapes which were carried out targeting the local population. Subsequently, several evaluation techniques were utilized to evaluate this methodology where we obtained an overall success rate as 70.19%. The ultimate goal of this research study is to provide a system to the law enforcement agencies in order to carry out an efficient and effective facial composite process which can lead to increase the success rate of suspect identification.

This paper is the second in a series focused on providing a stable platform for the taxonomy of phytopathogenic fungi.It focuses on 25 phytopathogenic genera:Alternaria,Bipolaris,Boeremia,Botryosphaeria,Calonectria,Coniella,Corticiaceae,Curvularia,Elsinoe,Entyloma,Erythricium,Fomitiporia,Fulviformes,Laetisaria,Limonomyces,Neofabraea,Neofusicoccum,phaeoacremonium,phellinotus,phyllosticta,plenodomus,pseudopyricularia,Tilletia,Venturia and Waitea,using recent molecular data,up to date names and the latest taxonomic insights.For each genus a taxonomic background,diversity aspects,species identification and classification based on molecular phylogeny and recommended genetic markers are provided.In this study,varieties of the genus Boeremia have been elevated to species level.Botryosphaeria,Bipolaris,Curvularia,Neofusicoccum and phyllosticta that were included in the One Stop Shop 1 paper are provided with updated entries,as many new species have been introduced to these genera.

Taxonomic names are key links between various databases that store information on different organisms.Several global fungal nomenclural and taxonomic databases(notably Index Fungorum,Species Fungorum and mycoBank)can be sourced to find taxonomic details about fungi,while DNA sequence data can be sourced from NCBI,EBI and UNITE databases.Although the sequence data may be linked to a name,the quality of the metadata is variable and generally there is no corresponding link to images,descriptions or herbarium material.There is generally no way to establish the accuracy of the names in these genomic databases,other than whether the submission is from a reputable source.To tackle this problem,a new database(FacesofFungi),accessible at ***(FoF)has been established.This fungal database allows deposition of taxonomic data,phenotypic details and other useful data,which will enhance our current taxonomic understanding and ultimately enable mycologists to gain better and updated insights into the current fungal classification system.In addition,the database will also allow access to comprehensive metadata including descriptions of voucher and type specimens.This database is user-friendly,providing links and easy access between taxonomic ranks,with the classification system based primarily on molecular data(from the literature and via updated web-based phylogenetic trees),and to a lesser extent on morphological data when molecular data are unavailable.In FoF species are not only linked to the closest phylogenetic representatives,but also relevant data is provided,wherever available,on various applied aspects,such as ecological,industrial,quarantine and chemical uses.The data include the three main fungal groups(Ascomycota,Basidiomycota,Basal fungi)and fungus-like organisms.The FoF webpage is an output funded by the mushroom research Foundation which is an NGO with seven directors with mycological expertise.The webpage has 76 curators,and with the help of these specialists,FoF will provide an updated natural classification of
