Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of Arbutus unedo aqueous extract

Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of aqueous extract of Arbutus unedo(A. unedo) ***: In this context, the in vitro antioxidant activity was demonstrated by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl radical and H_2O_2 radical scavenging, ferrous ion chelating, ferric reducing power, total antioxidant capacity and by the protection against peroxidation of b-carotene-linoleic acid in emulsion. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated first by studying the membrane of human red blood cells against different hypotonic concentrations of Na Cl and against heat, inhibiting the denaturation of ***: Total phenolic and flavonoid content were found respectively [(207.84 ± 15.03)mg gallic acid equivalent/g, and(13.070 ± 0.096) mg quercetin equivalent/g]. The extract displayed significant scavenging activity of some radicals such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl [IC_(50)at(7.956 ± 0.278) mg/m L],OH [IC_(50)=(1 015.74 ± 46.35 mg/m L)], H_2O_2[IC_(50)=(114.77 ± 16.86) mg/m L] and showed a good antioxidant activity through ferrous ion chelating activity [IC_(50)=(1 014.30 ± 36.21) mg/m L], ferric reducing power [IC_(50)=(156.55 ± 17.40) mg/m L], total antioxidant capacity [IC_(50)=(461.67± 4.16) mg/m L] and b-carotene-linoleic acid protection against peroxidation [I% =(87.04 ± 1.21)% at 1 000 mg/m L].Conclusions: A. unedo showed in vitro anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the heat induced albumin denaturation and red blood cells membrane stabilization. Our results show that aqueous leaf extract of A. unedo has good antioxidant activity and interesting anti-inflammatory properties. A. unedo aqueous extract can be used to prevent oxidative and inflammatory processes.

Novel PCR primers to diagnose visceral Leishmaniasis using peripheral blood, spleen or bone marrow aspirates

Objective: To establish a suitable method of diagnosis of visceral Leishmania sis(VL) using peripheral blood, spleen or bone marrow aspirates. methods: Peripheral blood, bone marrow and spleen aspirate samples were collected from clinically suspected VL patients(n=26). A new PCR primer pair(mK1F/R) was designed targeting kinetoplast mini circle DNA sequences of Leishmania donovani, and Leishmania infantum, and was used to diagnose VL along with some other established primers for VL in polymerase chain reactions. Test was validated by comparing with several other diagnostic methods. Results: The designed primer set showed 100% specificity and 98% sensitivity in detecting VL using blood samples, when compared with more invasive samples: bone marrow or spleen aspirates. Conclusions: The newly designed primer mK1F/R could be a better alternative for PCR based diagnosis of VL using less invasive sample, peripheral blood instead of bone marrow or spleen aspirates.

Dufour and Soret Effect on Steady mHD Flow in Presence of Heat Generation and magnetic Field past an Inclined Stretching Sheet

An analysis of two-dimensional steady magneto-hydrodynamic free convection flow of an electrically conducting, viscous, incompressible fluid past an inclined stretching porous plate in the presence of a uniform magnetic field and thermal radiation with heat generation is made. Both the Dufour and Soret effects are considered for a hydrogen-air mixture as the non-chemically reacting fluid pair. The equations governing the flow, temperature and concentration fields are reduced to a system of joined non-linear ordinary differential equations by similarity transformation. Non-linear differential equations are integrated numerically by using Nachtsheim-Swigert shooting iteration technique along with sixth order Runge-Kutta integration scheme. Finally the significance of physical parameters which are of engineering interest are examined both in graphical and tabular form.

This paper provides a technical analysis of energy harvesting (EH) in the field of power and energy sector, including different aspects of harvesting energy, individual case history, control strategies of harvesting in the field of power and energy sector together with the current trend and future aspects of it. EH is comparatively a new concept which is growing very fast since the 20th century and catching new generation research approaches. This paper not only describes the past and current scenarios of harvesting energy with radio frequency (RF) and renewables but also gives author’s own anticipation of the upcoming future trends of it by comparing the case histories.

Varying Track Etch Rates along the Fission Fragments＇ Trajectories in CR-39 Detectors

We determine the behavior of track etch rate VT along the tracks in CR-39 detectors exposed to fission fragments from ^252Cf source. CR-39 detectors are etched at 70℃ in different concentrations of Na2COa-mixed 6m NaOH solutions for different etching time intervals of 5-10min starting from 15 min up to 210min. Two values of track etch rate are determined along the fission fragment trajectories. The variation in VT is correlated with the energy loss rate of the fission fragment in the detector material.

Background: Long segment transpedicular screw fixation in thoracolumbar spine injury has gained popularity in the last decades as it provides immediate stability, prevents further risk of complications and allows early mobilization of patient. Objectives: Evaluation of clinical and functional outcome after long segment transpedicular screw fixation in unstable thoracolumbar spine injury with incomplete neurological deficit patients. methods: This quasi experimental study was conducted at Dhaka medical College and Hospital (DmCH), Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2016 to December 2017. A total of twenty four (24) patients with traumatic unstable fracture of the thoracolumbar spine with incomplete neurological deficit underwent long segment transpedicular screw fixation were included in this study. Clinical and radiologic outcomes were assessed pre-operatively and post-operatively. Results: A total of 24 patients aged between 20 - 60 years of both sexes (male-21, Female-03) were included in this study. Their mean (±SD) age was 33.12 (±8.57) years. most of them were farmer [09 (37.5%)] and day labour [08 (33.33%)]. motor vehicle accidents were the most common [16 (66.67%)] cause of injury and then fall from height [08 (33.33%)]. The most common level of injury involved was L1-10 (41.67%) patients, followed by L2-07 (29.17%), T12-05 (20.83%) and T11-02 (8.33%) of the study patients. Burst fracture was the commonest [22 (91.67%)] type of fracture followed by Chance fracture [02 (8.33%)]. Pre-operative mean (±SD) Cobb angle, Kyphotic deformation of vertebral body, Beck index and vertebral compression deformity were 21.83 ± 4.5 degrees, 22.09 ± 4.40 degrees, 0.78 ± 2.65 and 0.18 ± 0.93 mm respectively, after procedure which were significantly (p Conclusions: Long segment transpedicular screw fixation is an effective method of treatment in patients having thoracolumbar spine injury with incomplete neurological deficit.

Developing high activity and low-cost materials to produce hydrogen by the sustainable way of photoelectrochemical is key to social *** abundance and inexpensive Cu_(2)O has been received increasing research as its suitable energy level for photocatalytic water ***,the fast charge recombination rate and the sluggish catalytic kinetics are the huge challenges facing the Cu_(2)O ***,the highly reactive Cu_(2)O@C-moS_(2)photocathode is constructed by depositing dual-cocatalysts of the carbon layer and moS_(2)nanosheets on Cu_(2)O nanowires to realize efficient water *** impressive carrier concentration of 6.59×10^(23)cm^(-3)is received,which is 2.78 times of the bare Cu_(2)O,resulting in remarkable enhancement in photocurrent density of 3.34 times for the Cu_(2)O@CmoS_(2)***,the applied bias photon-to-current conversion efficiency of the bare Cu_(2)O enhanced 4.5 times from 0.16%to 0.72%in the Cu_(2)O@C-moS_(2)*** analysis shows that the Cu_(2)O as light absorber,the carbon layer as electron transfer promoter,and moS_(2)nanosheets as catalytic sites,thus facilitating chrage separation and enhancing catalytic *** system paves a feasible strategy for designing other photoelectrodes to realize efficient charge separation and high catalytic activity.
