Improvement of plant performance under drought stress is crucial to sustaining agricultural *** current study investigated the ameliorative effects of foliar-applied kinetin,an adenine-type cytokinin(CK),on growth and gas exchange parameters,water relations and biochemical attributes of maize plants under drought ***-day-old maize plants were subjected to drought by maintaining soil moisture content at 25%field capacity for 8 days followed by foliar application of kinetin at 0,75,150 and 225 mg L^(−1)(CK0,CK75,CK150 and CK225,respectively)to the plants for two-times at the 9-day *** revealed that drought stress markedly reduced stem diameter,dry weight,chlorophyll content,gas exchange parameters and water balance but increased proline,malondialdehyde and soluble sugar contents,electrolyte leakage and senescence in maize *** of exogenous CK remarkably improved maize performance by modulating growth,gas exchange-and water relation-related parameters in a dose-dependent manner under drought ***225 increased chlorophyll content(by 61.54%),relative water content(by 49.14%),net photosynthesis rate(by 39.94%)and transpiration rate(by 121.36%)and also delayed leaf senescence but decreased internal CO_(2)concentration(by 7.38%),water saturation deficit(by 40.40%)and water uptake capacity(by 42.49%)in both well-watered and droughtstressed ***,CK application considerably decreased electrolyte leakage,proline,malondialdehyde and soluble sugar levels in drought-stressed maize plants,as also supported by heatmap and cluster *** together,exogenous CK at proper concentration(225 mg L^(−1))successfully improved maize performance under drought conditions,thereby suggesting CK application as a useful approach to alleviate drought-induced adverse effects in maize plants,and perhaps in other important crop plants.

Effect of Al Doping on Structural, Electrical, Optical and Photoluminescence Properties of Nano-Structural ZnO Thin Films

The nano-structural Al-doped ZnO thin films of different morphologies deposited on glass substrate were successfully fabricated at substrate temperature of 350 ℃ by an inexpensive spray pyrolysis method. The structural, electrical, optical and photoluminescence properties were investigated. X-ray diffraction study revealed the crystalline wurtzite （hexagonal） structure of the films with nano-grains. Scanning electron microscopy （SEm） micrographs indicated the formation of a large variety of nano-structures during film growth. The spectral absorption of the films occurred at the absorption edge of -410 nm. In the present study, the optical band gap energy 3.28 eV of ZnO decreased gradually to 3.05 eV for 4 mol% of AI doping. The deep level activation energy decreased and carrier concentrations increased substantially with increasing doping. Exciting with the energy 3.543 eV （A=350 nm）, a narrow and a broad characteristic photoluminescence peaks that correspond to the near band edge （NBE） and deep level emissions （DLE）, respectively emerged.

Application of a RaNS and PF-Based method to Study the Resistance and motion of a Bulk Carrier

Resistance prediction of ships using computational fluid dynamics has gained popularity over the years because of its high accuracy and low cost. This paper conducts numerical estimations of the ship resistance and motion of a Japan bulk carrier model using SHIP_motion, a Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RaNS)-based solver, and HydroSTAR, a commercial potential flow (PF)-based solver. The RaNS solver uses an overset-structured mesh and discretizes the flow field using the finite volume method, while the PF-based solver applies the three-dimensional panel method. In the calm water test, the total drag coefficient, sinkage, and trim were predicted using the RaNS solver following mesh dependency analysis, and the results were compared with the available experimental data. Next, calm water resistance was investigated for a range of Froude numbers. The added resistance in short-wave cases was simulated using both RaNS and PF solvers, and the results were compared. The PF solver showed better agreement with the RaNS solver for predicting motion responses than for predicting added resistance. While the added resistance results could not be directly validated because of the absence of experimental data, considering the previous accuracy of the RaNS solver in added resistance prediction and general added resistance profile of similar hull forms (bulk carriers), the prediction results could be concluded to be reliable.

Nowadays,there are many studies conducted in the field of marine hydrodynamics which focus on two vessels traveling and floating in sufficiently close proximity to experience significant *** hydrodynamic behavior of parallel moving ships in waves is an interesting and important topic of late.A numerical investigation has been carried out for the prediction of wave exciting forces and motion responses of parallel moving ships in regular *** numerical solution was based on 3D distribution technique and using the linear wave theory to determine the exciting forces and ship＇s *** speed effects have been considered in the Green function for more realistic *** numerical computations of wave exciting forces and motion responses were carried out for a mariner and Series 60 for the purpose of discovering different Froude numbers and different separation distances in head sea *** on the numerical computations,it was revealed that the sway,roll and yaw have a significant effect due to hydrodynamic interaction.

Analysis of Wave Energy Resources Around the Saint martin Island in Bangladesh

S aint martin Island is the only coral island and one of the well-known tourist spots in *** of its geographic location,electricity cannot be supplied from the mainland through the electricity *** generators and solar power are the only means of electricity generation presently available *** by the sea,Saint martin Island has the ideal conditions for wave energy *** this research,numerical models have been developed using the Delft3 D simulation software to determine the wave characteristics of different locations around Saint martin *** results have been calibrated and validated against the data obtained from well-known data *** wave power densities have been calculated using the data obtained from the simulation *** findings of the research show that the wave power density increases significantly from shallow water to deep water and a large amount of wave energy can be extracted during the summer and rainy monsoon *** maximum hourly average value of wave power in 2016 has been determined to be6.90 kW/m at location with a water depth of 27.80 *** energy resources are also observed to be sufficiently stable with the coefficients of variation of wave power density less than 0.62,except for December,January,and may of that particular ***,the annual effective energies have been determined to be within the range of 36.57 to 57.28 mWh/m,which will be sufficient to meet the electricity requirement of the island communities.

Quality Assessment of Different Industrial Effluents for Irrigation in Agriculture

A laboratory experiment was undertaken in Soil Science Division of BRRI （Bangladesh Rice Research Institute） during 2010 to assess the quality of industrial effluents and city waste as a source of irrigation water for agriculture. The treatments of the studies were the effluents of five different industrial sources like polyvinyl, dyeing, pharmaceuticals, beverage, tannery, mixed waste water （contaminated with effluents from many industries）, CWW （city waste water） and underground water as control. The industrial effluents, mWW （mixed waste water）, CWW and control water were tested for electrical conductivity, pH, and soluble ions such as Na^＋, Ca^2＋, mg^2＋, K^＋, HCO3-, CO3^2-, NH4^＋-N and H2PO4^-. micronutrients （Fe, mn, Cu and Zn） and heavy metals （As, Pb, Cd, Cr and Ni） were analyzed from the samples. Beverage industry effluent showed acidic reaction, while the other industrial effluents showed alkaline reaction （pH 7.25-9.07）. Pharmaceutical, dyeing and tannery effluents showed EC of 3.40, 4.30 and 9.49 dS m^-1, respectively, compared to 0.54 dSm^-1 of the control. All the effluents except polyvinyl and beverage effluents and CWW recorded higher carbonate and bicarbonate content than that of control. Industrial effluents and CWW were higher in micronutrient content as compared to control. Dyeing, pharmaceutical and tannery effluents contained 2.51, 3.94 and 4.29 mg L^-1 lead, 0.15, 0.14 and 0.38 mg L^-1 chromium and 0.25, 0.24 and 0.16 mg L^-1 nickel, respectively which might be concemed for health hazard through food chain.

Impact of Action Observation Therapy along with Usual Physiotherapy Intervention of Individual with Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairments in the initial stage, which lead to severe cognitive dysfunction in the later stage. Action observation therapy (AOT) is a multisensory cognitive rehabilitation technique where the patient initially observes the actions and then tries to perform. The study aimed to examine the impact of AOT along with usual physiotherapy interventions to reduce depression, improve cognition and balance of a patient with AD. A 67 years old patient with AD was selected for this study because the patient has been suffering from depression, dementia, and physical dysfunction along with some other health conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Before starting intervention, a baseline assessment was done through the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) tool, the mini-Cog Scale, and the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). The patient received 12 sessions of AOT along with usual physiotherapy interventions thrice a week for four weeks, which included 45 minutes of each session. After four weeks of intervention, the patient demonstrated significant improvement in depression, cognition, and balance, whereas the BDI score declined from moderate 21/63 to mild 15/63 level of depression. The mini-Cog score improved from 2/5 to 4/5, and the BBS score increased from 18/56 to 37/56. It is concluded that AOT along with usual physiotherapy intervention helps to reduce depression, improve cognition and balance of people with AD.

Optimization of Slope Angle and Its Seismic Stability: A Case Study for the Proposed Open Pit Coalmine in Phulbari,NW Bangladesh

The present study reflects upon the results of substantial program of two-dimensional Finite Element method （FEm） numerical analyses of the open pit that links to slope angle optimization associated with the safety factor of the pit slope of a coal mine in Bangladesh. In the present analyses, two types of models have been presented. The first model estimates safety factor without seismic effect on the overall pit slope of the model; the second model incorporates safety factor with seismic stability of the model. The calculated optimum slope angle of the first model is 31% with a rational safety factor of 1.51, prior to the seismic effect. However, the value is reduced to 0.93, 0.82, and 0.72, after we applies the seismic effect in the second model with m6, m6.5, and m7, respectively. Finally, our modeling results emphasize that for the case of the proposed Phulbari coalmine, there is extremely high prospect for causing massive slope failure along the optimum pit slope angle with 31% if the mine area felt seismic shaking, like the Sikkim （in northern India） earthquake with m6.9 on September 18, 2011.

mOVPE Growth of In_xGa_(1-x)N(x～0.4) and Fabrication of Homo-junction Solar Cells

The metal organic vapor phase epitaxy （mOVPE） growth of indium gallium nitride （InGaN） has been discussed in detail towards the fabrication of solar cell. The InGaN film with In contents up to 0.4 are successfully grown by controlling the fundamental growth parameters such as the precursor gas flow rates, temperature etc. The formation of metallic In originates from the higher value （0.74） of trimethylindium/ （trimethylindium ＋ triethylgallium）（TmI/（TmI ＋ TEG）） molar ratio with low （4100） V/lll weight molar ratio while the lower value （0.2） of TmI/（TmI ＋ TEG） causes the phase separation. It is also necessary to control the growth rate and epitaxial film thickness to suppress the phase separation in the material. The crystalline quality of grown films is studied and it is found to be markedly deteriorated with increasing In content. The lattice parameters as well as the thermal expansion coefficient mismatch between GaN template and InGaN epi-layer are primarily considered as the reasons to deteriorate the film quality for higher In content. By using Ino.16Ga0.84N films, an n＋-p homo-junction structure is fabricated on 0.65 μm GaN template. For such a device, the response to the light illumination （Am 1.5） is observed with an open circuit voltage of 1.4 V and the short circuit current density of 0.25 mA/cm2. To improve the performance as well as increase solar photon capturing, the device is further fabricated on thick GaN template with higher In content. The In0.25Ga0.75N n＋-p junction solar cell is found better performance with an open circuit voltage of 1.5 V and the short circuit current density of 0.5 mA/cm2. This is the InGaN p-n homo-junction solar cell with the highest In content ever reported by mOVPE.
